Job 36

NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:	1 Depois Eliú prosseguiu nestes termos:
2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.	2 Espera um pouco e te instruirei, tenho ainda palavras em defesa de Deus;
3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.	3 irei buscar longe a minha ciência, e justificarei meu Criador.
4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.	4 Minhas palavras não são certamente mentirosas, estás tratando com um homem de ciência sólida.
5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure	5 Deus é poderoso, mas não é arrogante, é poderoso por sua ciência:
6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;	6 não deixa viver o mau, faz justiça aos aflitos,
7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,	7 não afasta os olhos dos justos; e os faz assentar com os reis no trono, numa glória eterna.
8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.	8 Se vierem a cair presos, ou se forem atados com os laços da infelicidade,
9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.	9 ele lhes faz reconhecer as suas obras, e as faltas que cometeram por orgulho;
10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.	10 e abre-lhes os ouvidos para corrigi-los, e diz-lhes que renunciem à iniqüidade.
11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.	11 Se escutam e obedecem, terminam seus dias na felicidade, e seus anos na delícia;
12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.	12 se não, morrem de um golpe, expiram por falta de sabedoria.
13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,	13 Os corações ímpios são entregues à cólera; não clamam a Deus quando ele os aprisiona,
14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.	14 morrem em plena mocidade, a vida deles passa como a dos efeminados.
15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.	15 Mas Deus salvará o pobre pela sua miséria, e o instrui pelo sofrimento.
16 You, too, he would like to snatch from torment. While you were enjoying boundless abundance, withrich food piled high on your table,	16 A ti também retirará das fauces da angústia, numa larga liberdade, e no repouso de uma mesa bem guarnecida.
17 you did not bring the wicked to trial and did not give fair judgement to the orphan.	17 E tu te comportas como um malvado, com o risco de incorrer em sentença e penalidade.
18 Beware of being led astray by abundance, of being corrupted by expensive presents.	18 Toma cuidado para que a cólera não te inflija um castigo, e que o tamanho do resgate não te perca.
19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.	19 Levará ele em conta teu grito na aflição, e todos os esforços do vigor?
20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.	20 Não suspires pela noite, para que os povos voltem para seus lugares.
21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.	21 Guarda-te de declinar para a iniqüidade, e de preferir a injustiça ao sofrimento.
22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?	22 Vê, Deus é sublime em seu poder. Que senhor lhe é comparável?
23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?	23 Quem lhe fixou seu caminho? Quem pode dizer-lhe: Fizeste mal?
24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.	24 Antes pensa em glorificar sua obra, que os humanos celebram em seus cantos.
25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.	25 Todos os homens a contemplam; o mortal a considera de longe.
26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.	26 Deus é grande demais para que o possamos conhecer; o número de seus anos é incalculável.
27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.	27 Atrai as gotinhas de água para transformá-las em chuva no nevoeiro,
28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.	28 as nuvens as espalham, e as destilam sobre a multidão dos homens.
29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?	29 Quem pode compreender como se estendem as nuvens, e o estrépito de sua tenda?
30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.	30 Espalha em volta dele a sua luz, e cobre os cimos das montanhas.
31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.	31 É por esse meio que nutre os povos, e fornece-lhes abundância de alimentos.
32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.	32 Nas suas mãos estende o raio, fixa-lhe o alvo a atingir;
33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.	33 seu estrondo o anuncia, o rebanho também anuncia aquele que se aproxima.
