Job 36

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Elihu went on speaking. He said:	1 Eliu proseguì dicendo:
2 Be patient a little longer while I explain, for I have more to say on God's behalf.	2 "Aspetta un poco e ti istruirò, perché ci sono altre cose da dire in difesa di Dio.
3 I shal range far afield for my arguments to prove my Maker just.	3 Attingerò la mia scienza da lontano, per rendere giustizia a colui che mi ha creato.
4 I guarantee, nothing I shal say wil be untrue: you have a man of sound learning here.	4 Certo, le mie parole non sono menzognere, un sapiente consumato parla con te.
5 God does not reject anyone whose heart is pure	5 Ecco, Dio è grande e non si ritrae, è potente per la fermezza delle sue decisioni.
6 or let the sinner live on in al his power. He does accord fair judgement to the afflicted;	6 Non lascia vivere il malvagio e rende giustizia ai poveri.
7 he does uphold what the upright deserve. When he raises kings to thrones, if they grow proud of theirunending rule,	7 Non distoglie dai giusti i suoi occhi, li fa sedere sul trono insieme ai re e li esalta per sempre.
8 then he fetters them with chains, they are caught in the bonds of affliction.	8 Ma se vengono legati in catene e sono stretti con corde di afflizione,
9 He shows them the import of their deeds, of the sins of pride they have committed.	9 fa loro conoscere le opere loro e le loro infedeltà, perché insuperbirono.
10 In their ears he sounds a warning, ordering them to turn back from doing wrong.	10 Apre loro gli orecchi per la correzione e li esorta ad allontanarsi dal male.
11 If they take notice and obey him, the rest of their days are prosperous and the years pass pleasantly.	11 Se ascoltano e si sottomettono, finiranno i loro giorni nel benessere ed i loro anni nelle delizie.
12 If not, they go down the Canal and perish in their stupidity.	12 Ma se non ascoltano, periranno di spada; spireranno senza rendersene conto.
13 The stubborn, who cherish their anger and do not cry for help when he chains them,	13 I perversi di cuore accumulano ira, non invocano aiuto, quando Dio li avvince in catene.
14 die in the bloom of youth or live among the male prostitutes of the temple.	14 Pèrdono la vita in piena gioventù e la loro esistenza tra gli ieroduli.
15 But God saves the afflicted by his affliction, warning him in his misery.	15 Ma egli salva il povero mediante l'afflizione e gli schiude l'udito mediante la sofferenza.
16 You, too, he would like to snatch from torment. While you were enjoying boundless abundance, withrich food piled high on your table,	16 Anche te intende sottrarre dal morso dell'angustia; avrai in cambio un luogo ampio e aperto, e la tavola che ti sarà servita sarà colma di vivande grasse.
17 you did not bring the wicked to trial and did not give fair judgement to the orphan.	17 Ma se tu incorri in un verdetto di condanna, verdetto e giudizio vinceranno.
18 Beware of being led astray by abundance, of being corrupted by expensive presents.	18 La collera non ti trascini all'imprudenza, non ti seduca l'abbondanza del riscatto.
19 Take the powerful to law, not merely the penniless, those whose arm is strong, not merely the weak.	19 Varrà forse davanti a lui la tua implorazione nell'angustia, o tutte le risorse della tua forza?
20 Do not crush people you do not know to instal your relations in their place.	20 Non sospirare a quella notte, quando i popoli vanno al loro luogo!
21 Avoid any tendency to wrong-doing, for this is why affliction is testing you now.	21 Bada di non volgerti all'iniquità, perché per questo sei stato provato dall'afflizione.
22 See, God is sublime in his strength and who can teach lessons as he does?	22 Ecco, Dio è sublime nella sua potenza; quale maestro lo può uguagliare?
23 Who has even told him which course to take, or dared to say to him, 'You have done wrong'?	23 Chi può indicargli il cammino, e chi può dirgli: "Hai commesso ingiustizia"?
24 Consider, rather, how you may praise his work, a theme that many have sung.	24 Ricòrdati di celebrare la sua opera, che altri uomini hanno cantato.
25 This is something that everyone can see, gazing, as we do, from afar.	25 Tutti gli uomini la ammirano, i mortali la contemplano da lontano.
26 Yes, the greatness of God exceeds our knowledge, the number of his years is past counting.	26 Sì, Dio è grande, anche se non lo riconosciamo; il numero dei suoi anni è incalcolabile.
27 It is he who makes the raindrops smal and pulverises the rain into mist.	27 Egli attira le gocce d'acqua, che si condensano in vapore per la pioggia,
28 And the clouds then pour this out, sending it streaming down on the human race.	28 che le nubi riverseranno, grondando sugli uomini in gran quantità.
29 And who can fathom how he spreads the clouds, or why such crashes thunder from his tent?	29 Chi può calcolare l'estensione delle nubi, l'alta posizione della sua tenda?
30 He spreads a mist before him and covers the tops of the mountains.	30 Ecco, come si spande la sua luce, con essa ricopre la profondità del mare.
31 By these means, he sustains the peoples, giving them plenty to eat.	31 In tal modo sostenta i popoli, e dà loro il cibo in abbondanza.
32 He gathers up the lightning in his hands, assigning it the mark where to strike.	32 Arma le mani di folgori e le scaglia contro il bersaglio.
33 His crashing gives warning of its coming, anger flashes out against iniquity.	33 Il suo tuono lo annuncia, attira l'ira contro l'iniquità.
