Job 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 Elihu continued his speech. He said:	1 - Ed Eliu continuando a parlare disse:
2 And now, you sages, listen to what I say, lend me your ears, you learned men.	2 «Ascoltate, o sapienti, le mie parole, e voi, forniti di scienza, uditemi;
3 The ear distinguishes the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food from another.	3 poichè l'orecchio discerne le parole, come la gola giudica al giusto i cibi.
4 Let us consider together God's ruling and decide what we all mean by good.	4 Il diritto noi dobbiamo scegliere, e conoscere fra noi ciò ch'è meglio.
5 Job has been saying, 'I am upright and God denies me fair judgement.	5 Giobbe infatti ha detto: - Io sono giusto, ma Dio ha tolto via il mio diritto;
6 My judge is treating me cruel y, my wound is incurable, for no fault of mine.'	6 nel mio giudizio infatti v'è una menzogna: acuta è la freccia di chi mi [ha colpito] senza veruna colpa.
7 Can anyone else exist like Job, who laps up mockery like water,	7 Qual uomo mai è come Giobbe, che tracanna lo scherno [verso Dio] come acqua?
8 who consorts with evil-doers and marches in step with the wicked?	8 che procede d'accordo con quelli che operano il male, e batte la strada degli empii?
9 Did he not say, 'No one derives any benefit from enjoying the society of God'?	9 Egli infatti ha detto: - All'uomo non giova, metter la sua compiacenza in Dio. -
10 Listen to me then, like intel igent people. Far be evil from God or injustice from Shaddai!	10 Perciò, o uomini di mente, ascoltatemi:Lungi da Dio l'empietà, e dall'Onnipotente l'iniquità!
11 For he pays people back for what they do, treating each as his own conduct deserves.	11 Egli invero ripaga all'uomo l'opera sua, e qual è la via di ciascuno, gli fa trovar [la mèta];
12 Be sure of it: God never does wrong, Shaddai does not pervert what is just.	12 poichè certamente egli non condanna senza motivo, e l'Onnipotente non viola il diritto.
13 Did someone else entrust the world to his care was he given charge of the universe by someoneelse?	13 Ha forse egli costituito un altro a capo della terra? ovvero ha affidato a un altro l'orbe ch'ei fabbricò?
14 If he were to recal his spirit, to concentrate his breath back in himself,	14 Se egli ritirasse a sè il suo alito, ed il suo soffio a sè raccogliesse,
15 all flesh would instantly perish and al people would return to dust.	15 perirebbe ad un tratto ogni carne [vivente], e l'uomo ritornerebbe in polvere.
16 If you have any intel igence, listen to this, lend your ear to the sound of my words.	16 Se hai dunque intelligenza ascolta ciò che [ti] si dice, e porgi orecchio al suono del mio discorso.
17 Could an enemy of fair judgement ever govern? Would you dare condemn the Upright One, theAlmighty,	17 Può forse governare chi non ama il diritto? e tu come puoi condannare in tal guisa colui ch'è il Giusto?
18 who says to a king, 'You are a scoundrel!' and to nobles, 'You are wicked!',	18 colui che dice al re: - O indegno! -che verso i principi esclama: - O empii! -
19 who is unimpressed by princes and makes no distinction between rich and poor, since al alike havebeen made by him?	19 che non ha riguardo alle persone dei nobili, nè riconosce il tiranno in contrasto col povero: poichè opera delle sue mani son tutti quanti,
20 They die suddenly, at dead of night, they perish -- these great ones -- and disappear: it costs him noeffort to remove a tyrant.	20 all'istante essi muoiono e nel cuor della notte. Sono sconvolti i popoli e via passeranno, sarà rapito il violento senza che alcun lo tocchi.
21 For his eyes keep watch on human ways, and he observes every step.	21 Poichè gli occhi di Lui son sulle vie degli uomini, e tutti i loro passi egli esamina;
22 No darkness, no shadow dark as death where wrong-doers can hide!	22 non v'è tenebra nè ombra di morte, ove asconder si possano gli operanti il male;
23 He serves no writ on anyone, no summons to appear before God's court:	23 nè è più oltre in poter dell'uomodi comparir davanti a Dio a giudizio.
24 he breaks the powerful without enquiry and sets up others in their places.	24 Egli infrange molti e innumerevoli, e pone degli altri in luogo loro;
25 He knows the sort of things they do! He overthrows them at night, to be trampled on.	25 poichè conosce le opere loro, e per questo adduce la notte e sono schiacciati.
26 He beats them like criminals chained up for al to see,	26 Come empii ei colpisce ov'è chi contempli,
27 since they have turned their backs on him, having understood so little of his ways	27 perchè a industria si allontanarono da luie nessuna delle sue vie vollero comprendere;
28 as to make the cries of the weak rise to him and let him hear the appeal of the afflicted.	28 cosicchè fecero giungere a lui il grido del meschino, e gli fecero udire la voce del povero.
29 But if he is stil silent and no one can move him, if he veils his face, so that no one can see him, he istaking pity on nations and individuals,	29 Se egli infatti concede pace, chi lo condannerà? se nasconde il suo volto chi può scorgerlo? Sia sulle genti che su tutti gli uomini [domina egli]
30 is setting some wrong-doer free from the meshes of affliction.	30 che fa regnare il malvagio per i peccati del popolo.
31 When such a one says to God, 'I was misled, I shal not do wrong any more;	31 Poichè dunque io ho parlato a Dio, non impedirò [altrettanto] a te.
32 although I have sinned, instruct me; although I did wrong, I will not do it again,'	32 Se ho errato, tu ammaestrami, se ho dette cose empie, non insisterò.
33 in your opinion, should he punish such a one -- you who have rejected his decisions? This is for youto decide -- not for me!- so kindly enlighten us!	33 Forse Dio ne chiederà conto a teperchè ti sono dispiaciute? Eppur tu cominciasti a parlare, non io: chè se tu sai alcunchè di meglio, parla.
34 Ordinary sensible people, however, wil say to me, and so wil any sage who has been listening tome,	34 Gli uomini intelligenti parlino a me, e l'uomo sapiente mi ascolti.
35 'Job's words are spoken without any knowledge, what he says shows no intel igence.	35 Giobbe invece ha parlato stoltamente, e le sue sentenze non sanno d'accortezza.
36 Kindly examine him thoroughly, since his answers imply that he is a criminal.	36 Padre mio! sia messo Giobbe alla prova sino alla fine, nè cessar con l'uomo malvagio;
37 For to his sin he now adds rebellion, bringing law to an end among us and heaping abuse on God.'	37 poichè ai suoi peccati aggiunge la bestemmia, stringiamolo frattanto tra di noi, e allor provochi a giudizio Dio coi suoi discorsi.»
