Job 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 Elihu continued his speech. He said:	1 Eliu prese a dire:
2 And now, you sages, listen to what I say, lend me your ears, you learned men.	2 «Ascoltate, saggi, le mie parole e voi, dotti, porgetemi l’orecchio,
3 The ear distinguishes the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food from another.	3 perché come l’orecchio distingue le parole e il palato assapora i cibi,
4 Let us consider together God's ruling and decide what we all mean by good.	4 così noi esploriamo ciò che è giusto, indaghiamo tra noi ciò che è bene.
5 Job has been saying, 'I am upright and God denies me fair judgement.	5 Giobbe ha detto: “Io sono giusto, ma Dio mi nega il mio diritto;
6 My judge is treating me cruel y, my wound is incurable, for no fault of mine.'	6 contro il mio diritto passo per menzognero, inguaribile è la mia piaga, benché senza colpa”.
7 Can anyone else exist like Job, who laps up mockery like water,	7 Quale uomo è come Giobbe che beve, come l’acqua, l’insulto,
8 who consorts with evil-doers and marches in step with the wicked?	8 che cammina in compagnia dei malfattori, andando con uomini iniqui?
9 Did he not say, 'No one derives any benefit from enjoying the society of God'?	9 Infatti egli ha detto: “Non giova all’uomo essere gradito a Dio”.
10 Listen to me then, like intel igent people. Far be evil from God or injustice from Shaddai!	10 Perciò ascoltatemi, voi che siete uomini di senno: lontano da Dio l’iniquità e dall’Onnipotente l’ingiustizia!
11 For he pays people back for what they do, treating each as his own conduct deserves.	11 Egli infatti ricompensa l’uomo secondo le sue opere, retribuisce ciascuno secondo la sua condotta.
12 Be sure of it: God never does wrong, Shaddai does not pervert what is just.	12 In verità, Dio non agisce da ingiusto e l’Onnipotente non sovverte il diritto!
13 Did someone else entrust the world to his care was he given charge of the universe by someoneelse?	13 Chi mai gli ha affidato la terra? Chi gli ha assegnato l’universo?
14 If he were to recal his spirit, to concentrate his breath back in himself,	14 Se egli pensasse solo a se stesso e a sé ritraesse il suo spirito e il suo soffio,
15 all flesh would instantly perish and al people would return to dust.	15 ogni carne morirebbe all’istante e l’uomo ritornerebbe in polvere.
16 If you have any intel igence, listen to this, lend your ear to the sound of my words.	16 Se sei intelligente, ascolta bene questo, porgi l’orecchio al suono delle mie parole.
17 Could an enemy of fair judgement ever govern? Would you dare condemn the Upright One, theAlmighty,	17 Può mai governare chi è nemico del diritto? E tu osi condannare il Giusto supremo?
18 who says to a king, 'You are a scoundrel!' and to nobles, 'You are wicked!',	18 Lui che dice a un re: “Iniquo!” e ai prìncipi: “Malvagi!”,
19 who is unimpressed by princes and makes no distinction between rich and poor, since al alike havebeen made by him?	19 lui che non usa parzialità con i potenti e non preferisce il ricco al povero, perché tutti sono opera delle sue mani.
20 They die suddenly, at dead of night, they perish -- these great ones -- and disappear: it costs him noeffort to remove a tyrant.	20 In un istante muoiono e nel cuore della notte sono colpiti i potenti e periscono. Senza sforzo egli rimuove i tiranni,
21 For his eyes keep watch on human ways, and he observes every step.	21 perché tiene gli occhi sulla condotta dell’uomo e vede tutti i suoi passi.
22 No darkness, no shadow dark as death where wrong-doers can hide!	22 Non vi è tenebra, non densa oscurità, dove possano nascondersi i malfattori.
23 He serves no writ on anyone, no summons to appear before God's court:	23 Poiché non si fissa una data all’uomo per comparire davanti a Dio in giudizio:
24 he breaks the powerful without enquiry and sets up others in their places.	24 egli abbatte i potenti, senza fare indagini, e colloca altri al loro posto.
25 He knows the sort of things they do! He overthrows them at night, to be trampled on.	25 Perché conosce le loro opere, li travolge nella notte e sono schiacciati.
26 He beats them like criminals chained up for al to see,	26 Come malvagi li percuote, li colpisce alla vista di tutti,
27 since they have turned their backs on him, having understood so little of his ways	27 perché si sono allontanati da lui e di tutte le sue vie non vollero saperne,
28 as to make the cries of the weak rise to him and let him hear the appeal of the afflicted.	28 facendo salire fino a lui il grido degli oppressi, ed egli udì perciò il lamento dei poveri.
29 But if he is stil silent and no one can move him, if he veils his face, so that no one can see him, he istaking pity on nations and individuals,	29 Se egli rimane inattivo, chi può condannarlo? Se nasconde il suo volto, chi può vederlo? Ma sulle nazioni e sugli individui egli veglia,
30 is setting some wrong-doer free from the meshes of affliction.	30 perché non regni un uomo perverso, e il popolo non venga ostacolato.
31 When such a one says to God, 'I was misled, I shal not do wrong any more;	31 A Dio si può dire questo: “Mi sono ingannato, non farò più del male.
32 although I have sinned, instruct me; although I did wrong, I will not do it again,'	32 Al di là di quello che vedo, istruiscimi tu. Se ho commesso iniquità, non persisterò”.
33 in your opinion, should he punish such a one -- you who have rejected his decisions? This is for youto decide -- not for me!- so kindly enlighten us!	33 Forse dovrebbe ricompensare secondo il tuo modo di vedere, perché tu rifiuti il suo giudizio? Sei tu che devi scegliere, non io, di’, dunque, quello che sai.
34 Ordinary sensible people, however, wil say to me, and so wil any sage who has been listening tome,	34 Gli uomini di senno mi diranno insieme a ogni saggio che mi ascolta:
35 'Job's words are spoken without any knowledge, what he says shows no intel igence.	35 “Giobbe non parla con sapienza e le sue parole sono prive di senso”.
36 Kindly examine him thoroughly, since his answers imply that he is a criminal.	36 Bene, Giobbe sia esaminato fino in fondo, per le sue risposte da uomo empio,
37 For to his sin he now adds rebellion, bringing law to an end among us and heaping abuse on God.'	37 perché al suo peccato aggiunge la ribellione, getta scherno su di noi e moltiplica le sue parole contro Dio».
