Job 34

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 Elihu continued his speech. He said:	1 Elihú reanudó su discurso y dijo:
2 And now, you sages, listen to what I say, lend me your ears, you learned men.	2 Escuchad, sabios, mis palabras, vosotros los doctos, dadme oídos.
3 The ear distinguishes the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food from another.	3 Porque el oído aprecia las palabras, como el paladar gusta los manjares.
4 Let us consider together God's ruling and decide what we all mean by good.	4 Decidamos entre nosotros lo que es justo, sepamos juntos lo que es bueno.
5 Job has been saying, 'I am upright and God denies me fair judgement.	5 Pues Job ha dicho: «Yo soy justo, pero Dios me quita mi derecho;
6 My judge is treating me cruel y, my wound is incurable, for no fault of mine.'	6 mi juez se muestra cruel para conmigo, mi llaga es incurable, aunque no tengo culpa.»
7 Can anyone else exist like Job, who laps up mockery like water,	7 ¿Qué hombre hay como Job, que bebe el sarcasmo como agua,
8 who consorts with evil-doers and marches in step with the wicked?	8 que anda en compañía de malhechores, y camina con malvados?
9 Did he not say, 'No one derives any benefit from enjoying the society of God'?	9 Pues él ha dicho: «Nada gana el hombre con buscar el agrado de Dios.»
10 Listen to me then, like intel igent people. Far be evil from God or injustice from Shaddai!	10 Así pues, escuchadme, como hombres sensatos. Lejos de Dios el mal, de Sadday la injusticia;
11 For he pays people back for what they do, treating each as his own conduct deserves.	11 que la obra del hombre, él se la paga, y según su conducta trata a cada uno.
12 Be sure of it: God never does wrong, Shaddai does not pervert what is just.	12 En verdad, Dios no hace el mal, no tuerce el derecho Sadday.
13 Did someone else entrust the world to his care was he given charge of the universe by someoneelse?	13 ¿Quién, si no, le confió la tierra, quién le encargó del mundo entero?
14 If he were to recal his spirit, to concentrate his breath back in himself,	14 Si él retirara a sí su espíritu, si hacia sí recogiera su soplo,
15 all flesh would instantly perish and al people would return to dust.	15 a una expiraría toda carne, el hombre al polvo volvería.
16 If you have any intel igence, listen to this, lend your ear to the sound of my words.	16 Si tienes inteligencia, escucha esto, presta oído al son de mis palabras.
17 Could an enemy of fair judgement ever govern? Would you dare condemn the Upright One, theAlmighty,	17 ¿Podría gobernar un enemigo del derecho? ¿al Justo poderoso vas a condenar?
18 who says to a king, 'You are a scoundrel!' and to nobles, 'You are wicked!',	18 ¡Aquel que dice a un rey: «¡Inútil!», «¡Malvados!» a los nobles,
19 who is unimpressed by princes and makes no distinction between rich and poor, since al alike havebeen made by him?	19 que no hace acepción de príncipes, ni prefiere al grande sobre el débil, ¡pues todos son obra de sus manos!
20 They die suddenly, at dead of night, they perish -- these great ones -- and disappear: it costs him noeffort to remove a tyrant.	20 Mueren ellos de repente a media noche, perecen los grandes y pasan, y él depone a un tirano sin esfuerzo.
21 For his eyes keep watch on human ways, and he observes every step.	21 Pues sus ojos vigilan los caminos del hombre, todos sus pasos observa.
22 No darkness, no shadow dark as death where wrong-doers can hide!	22 No hay tinieblas ni sombra donde ocultarse los agentes del mal.
23 He serves no writ on anyone, no summons to appear before God's court:	23 No asigna él un plazo al hombre para que a juicio se presente ante Dios.
24 he breaks the powerful without enquiry and sets up others in their places.	24 Quebranta a los grandes sin examen, y pone a otros en su sitio.
25 He knows the sort of things they do! He overthrows them at night, to be trampled on.	25 Es que él conoce sus acciones, de noche los sacude y se les pisa.
26 He beats them like criminals chained up for al to see,	26 Como a criminales los azota, en lugar público los encadena,
27 since they have turned their backs on him, having understood so little of his ways	27 porque se apartaron de su seguimiento, y no comprendieron todos sus caminos,
28 as to make the cries of the weak rise to him and let him hear the appeal of the afflicted.	28 hasta hacer llegar a él el gemido del débil y hacerle oír el clamor de los humildes.
29 But if he is stil silent and no one can move him, if he veils his face, so that no one can see him, he istaking pity on nations and individuals,	29 Mas si él sigue inmóvil, sin que nadie le perturbe, si vela su faz, sin que nadie le perciba, es que se apiada de naciones e individuos,
30 is setting some wrong-doer free from the meshes of affliction.	30 libra al impío del cepo de la angustia,
31 When such a one says to God, 'I was misled, I shal not do wrong any more;	31 Cuando éste dice a Dios: «He sido seducido, no volveré a hacer mal;
32 although I have sinned, instruct me; although I did wrong, I will not do it again,'	32 si he pecado instrúyeme, si he cometido injusticia, no reincidiré».
33 in your opinion, should he punish such a one -- you who have rejected his decisions? This is for youto decide -- not for me!- so kindly enlighten us!	33 ¿Acaso, según tú, tendría él que castigar, ya que rechazas sus decisiones? Como eres tú el que aprecias, y no yo, di todo lo que sepas.
34 Ordinary sensible people, however, wil say to me, and so wil any sage who has been listening tome,	34 Mas los hombres sensatos me dirán, así como todo sabio que me escuche:
35 'Job's words are spoken without any knowledge, what he says shows no intel igence.	35 «No habla Job cuerdamente, no son sensatas sus palabras.
36 Kindly examine him thoroughly, since his answers imply that he is a criminal.	36 Que sea Job probado a fondo, por sus respuestas dignas de malvados.
37 For to his sin he now adds rebellion, bringing law to an end among us and heaping abuse on God.'	37 Porque a su pecado la rebeldía añade, pone fin al derecho entre nosotros, y multiplica contra Dios sus palabras.»
