Job 34

NEW JERUSALEM	DIODATI
1 Elihu continued his speech. He said:	1 ED Elihu proseguì a parlare, e disse:
2 And now, you sages, listen to what I say, lend me your ears, you learned men.	2 Voi savi, udite i miei ragionamenti; E voi intendenti, porgetemi l’orecchio.
3 The ear distinguishes the value of what is said, just as the palate can tel one food from another.	3 Perciocchè l’orecchio esamina i ragionamenti, Come il palato assapora ciò che si deve mangiare.
4 Let us consider together God's ruling and decide what we all mean by good.	4 Proponiamoci la dirittura, Giudichiamo fra noi che cosa sia bene.
5 Job has been saying, 'I am upright and God denies me fair judgement.	5 Conciossiachè Giobbe abbia detto: Io son giusto; Iddio mi ha tolta la mia ragione.
6 My judge is treating me cruel y, my wound is incurable, for no fault of mine.'	6 Mentirei io intorno alla mia ragione? La saetta, con la quale son ferito, è dolorosissima, Senza che vi sia misfatto in me.
7 Can anyone else exist like Job, who laps up mockery like water,	7 Quale è l’uomo simile a Giobbe, Che beve lo scherno come acqua?
8 who consorts with evil-doers and marches in step with the wicked?	8 E che cammina in compagnia con gli operatori d’iniquità, E va con gli uomini empi?
9 Did he not say, 'No one derives any benefit from enjoying the society of God'?	9 Perciocchè egli ha detto: L’uomo non fa niun profitto Di rendersi grato a Dio
10 Listen to me then, like intel igent people. Far be evil from God or injustice from Shaddai!	10 Perciò, uomini di senno, ascoltatemi; Tolga Iddio che vi sia empietà in Dio, O perversità nell’Onnipotente.
11 For he pays people back for what they do, treating each as his own conduct deserves.	11 Perciocchè egli rende all’uomo secondo l’opera sua, E fa trovare a ciascuno secondo la sua via.
12 Be sure of it: God never does wrong, Shaddai does not pervert what is just.	12 Sì veramente Iddio non opera empiamente, E l’Onnipotente non perverte la ragione.
13 Did someone else entrust the world to his care was he given charge of the universe by someoneelse?	13 Chi gli ha commesso il governo della terra? E chi gli ha imposta la cura del mondo tutto intiero?
14 If he were to recal his spirit, to concentrate his breath back in himself,	14 Se egli ponesse mente all’uomo, Egli ritrarrebbe a sè il suo alito, ed il suo soffio;
15 all flesh would instantly perish and al people would return to dust.	15 Ogni carne insieme trapasserebbe, E l’uomo ritornerebbe nella polvere
16 If you have any intel igence, listen to this, lend your ear to the sound of my words.	16 Se pur tu hai del senno, ascolta questo; Porgi l’orecchio alla voce de’ miei ragionamenti.
17 Could an enemy of fair judgement ever govern? Would you dare condemn the Upright One, theAlmighty,	17 Di vero, colui che odia la dirittura signoreggerebbe egli? E condannerai tu colui che è sommamente giusto?
18 who says to a king, 'You are a scoundrel!' and to nobles, 'You are wicked!',	18 Direbbesi egli ad un re: Scellerato? E a’ principi: Empio?
19 who is unimpressed by princes and makes no distinction between rich and poor, since al alike havebeen made by him?	19 Quanto meno a colui che non ha riguardo alla qualità de’ principi, Ed appo cui non è riconosciuto il possente, Per essere antiposto al povero, Perchè essi tutti sono opera delle sue mani?
20 They die suddenly, at dead of night, they perish -- these great ones -- and disappear: it costs him noeffort to remove a tyrant.	20 Essi muoiono in un momento, E di mezza notte tutto un popolo è conquassato, e perisce; E il potente è tolto via senza opera di mani.
21 For his eyes keep watch on human ways, and he observes every step.	21 Perciocchè gli occhi suoi son sopra le vie dell’uomo, Ed egli vede tutti i passi di esso.
22 No darkness, no shadow dark as death where wrong-doers can hide!	22 Non vi è oscurità, nè ombra di morte alcuna, Ove si possan nascondere gli operatori d’iniquità.
23 He serves no writ on anyone, no summons to appear before God's court:	23 Perciocchè Iddio non ha più riguardo all’uomo, Quando esso è per venire in giudicio davanti a lui.
24 he breaks the powerful without enquiry and sets up others in their places.	24 Egli fiacca i possenti incomprensibilmente, E ne costituisce altri in luogo loro.
25 He knows the sort of things they do! He overthrows them at night, to be trampled on.	25 Perciò, conoscendo egli le opere loro, Nel girar d’una notte son fiaccati,
26 He beats them like criminals chained up for al to see,	26 Egli li sbatte come empi, In luogo di molti spettatori;
27 since they have turned their backs on him, having understood so little of his ways	27 Perciocchè si son rivolti indietro da lui, E non hanno considerate tutte le sue vie;
28 as to make the cries of the weak rise to him and let him hear the appeal of the afflicted.	28 Facendo pervenire infino a lui il grido del povero, E facendogli udire lo strido degli afflitti.
29 But if he is stil silent and no one can move him, if he veils his face, so that no one can see him, he istaking pity on nations and individuals,	29 Se egli rimanda in pace, chi condannerà? E se nasconde la sua faccia, chi lo riguarderà? O sia una nazione intiera, o un uomo solo;
30 is setting some wrong-doer free from the meshes of affliction.	30 Acciocchè l’uomo profano non regni più E che il popolo non sia più tenuto ne’ lacci
31 When such a one says to God, 'I was misled, I shal not do wrong any more;	31 Certo ei ti si conveniva indirizzarti a Dio, dicendo: Io ho portato la pena; io non peccherò più.
32 although I have sinned, instruct me; although I did wrong, I will not do it again,'	32 Se vi è alcuna cosa, oltre a ciò che io veggo, mostramelo; Se io ho operato perversamente, io non continuerò più.
33 in your opinion, should he punish such a one -- you who have rejected his decisions? This is for youto decide -- not for me!- so kindly enlighten us!	33 Vorresti tu, ch’egli ti facesse la retribuzione di ciò ch’è proceduto da te? Sei tu che rifiuti ed eleggi, non già io; Di’ pure ciò che tu sai.
34 Ordinary sensible people, however, wil say to me, and so wil any sage who has been listening tome,	34 Gli uomini di senno diranno meco, E l’uomo savio mi acconsentirà,
35 'Job's words are spoken without any knowledge, what he says shows no intel igence.	35 Che Giobbe non parla con conoscimento, E che le sue parole non sono con intendimento.
36 Kindly examine him thoroughly, since his answers imply that he is a criminal.	36 O padre mio, sia pur Giobbe provato infino all’ultimo, Per cagione delle sue repliche, simili a quelle degli uomini iniqui.
37 For to his sin he now adds rebellion, bringing law to an end among us and heaping abuse on God.'	37 Perciocchè altrimenti egli aggiungerà misfatto al suo peccato, Si batterà a palme fra noi, E moltiplicherà le parole sue contro a Dio
