1 Why does Shaddai not make known the times he has fixed; why do his faithful never see his Days?	1 - Per l'Onnipotente i tempi non sono celati: ma color che conoscono Lui, ignorano i giorni suoi.
2 The wicked move boundary-marks away, they carry off flock and shepherd.	2 Vi son di quelli che spostano i confini, rubano i greggi e li pascolano [per loro profitto];
3 They drive away the orphan's donkey, as security, they seize the widow's ox.	3 l'asino degli orfani essi portano via, prendono in pegno il bove della vedova;
4 The needy have to keep out of the way, poor country people have to keep out of sight.	4 sconvolgono i progetti dei poverelli, opprimono tutti i meschini della contrada.
5 Like wild desert donkeys, they go out to work, searching from dawn for food, and at evening forsomething on which to feed their children.	5 Vi son di quelli che, come onagri nel deserto, vanno fuori al loro lavoro: accorti sono essi a far preda, apprestando il pane ai figliuoli:
6 They go harvesting in the field of some scoundrel, they go pilfering in the vineyards of the wicked.	6 mietono nel campo che non è loro, e vendemmiano la vigna di chi hanno oppresso;
7 They spend the night naked, lacking clothes, with no covering against the cold.	7 rimandano nuda la gente, togliendo le vesti a coloroche non hanno copertura per il freddo,
8 Mountain rainstorms cut them through, unsheltered, they hug the rocks.	8 che dalle piogge dei monti restano inzuppatie per mancanza di riparo s'abbracciano alle rupi;
9 The orphan child is torn from the breast, the child of the poor is exacted as security.	9 commettono violenza depredando gli orfani, e la turba dei poveri spogliano;
10 They go about naked, lacking clothes, and starving while they carry the sheaves.	10 a gente nuda che va senza vestito ed è affamata, essi tolgono le spighe;
11 Two little wal s, their shelter at high noon; parched with thirst, they have to tread the winepress.	11 passano il meriggio fra i mucchi di coloroche soffron sete calcando gli strettoi:
12 From the towns come the groans of the dying and the gasp of the wounded crying for help. Yet Godremains deaf to prayer!	12 fecero gemere dalle città gli uomini, e l'anima dei trafitti grida, e Dio non permette che s'allontani l'invendicato.
13 In contrast, there are those who reject the light: who know nothing of its ways and who do notfrequent its paths.	13 Questi stessi sono ribelli alla luce, non conoscono le sue vie, nè battono i suoi sentieri;
14 When all is dark the murderer leaves his bed to kil the poor and needy. During the night the thiefgoes on the prowl,	14 di buon mattino si leva l'omicida, uccide il misero e il poverello: di notte poi fa da ladro;
15 The eye of the adulterer watches for twilight, 'No one wil see me,' he mutters as he masks his face.Inthe daytime they keep out of sight, these people who do not want to know the light.	15 l'occhio dell'adultero spia la caliginedicendo: - Occhio non mi scorgerà! -e si mette un velame sulla faccia;
16 breaking into houses while the darkness lasts.	16 scassina [il ladro] nell'oscurità le case, come durante il giorno aveva fissato con i suoi [compagni], poichè hanno in odio la luce:
17 For al of them, morning is a time of shadow dark as death, since that is when they know what fear is.	17 se ad un tratto appare l'aurora la credono un'ombra di morte, e camminano nelle tenebre come fosse luce.
18	18 [Il malvagio] è cosa leggiera sulla superficie delle acque: sia maledetta la sua eredità sulla terra, nè si rivolga il pigiatore alla sua vigna!
19	19 Ad eccessivo calore passi egli dalle acque della neve, e il suo peccato vada sino agl'ìnferi.
20	20 Di lui si scordi la misericordia, la sua dolcezza siano i vermi; non sia egli più ricordato, ma stroncato come albero infruttuoso!
21	21 Poichè depredò la sterile che non partorisce, ed alla vedova non fece del bene;
22	22 atterrò i forti con la sua fortezza, e quando starà in piedi non avrà sicurezza di vita.
23	23 Dio gli dette tempo di penitenza, e costui ne abusa a superbia; ma egli tiene i suoi occhi sulle vie di lui.
24	24 S'innalzano essi un momento, e più non esistono; saranno umiliati come ogni cosa, e tolti via, e come cime di spighe saranno recisi.
25 Is this not so? Who can prove me a liar or show that my words have no substance?	25 Se non è così chi mi accuserà di menzogna, e citarmi avanti a Dio per le mie parole?»
