1 Now, when the wal had been rebuilt and I had hung the doors, the gatekeepers (the singers and theLevites) were then appointed.	1 - Dopo che la muraglia fu riedificata, ed ebbi poste le porte, e recensiti i portinai, i cantori e i leviti,
2 I entrusted the administration of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and to Hananiah the commander ofthe citadel, for he was a more trustworthy, God-fearing man than many others.	2 detti ordine ad Anani mio fratello, ed ad Anania capo della cittadella, il quale mi pareva uomo sincero e temente di Dio più degli altri,
3 I said to them, 'The gates of Jerusalem must not be opened until the sun gets hot; and the doors mustbe shut and barred before it begins to go down. Detail guards from the residents of Jerusalem, each to his post,in front of his own house.'	3 e dissi loro: «Le porte di Gerusalemme non si aprano finchè non sia alto il sole». Presenti loro, furon chiuse e sbarrate le porte; e vi posi a guardia degli abitanti di Gerusalemme, ciascuno a turno, ciascuno di contro alla propria casa.
4 The city was large and spacious but the population was smal , and the houses had not been rebuilt.	4 Or la città era grande e vasta all'eccesso, e poco popolo vi stava dentro, nè le case erano state riedificate.
5 My God then inspired me to assemble the nobles, the officials and the people for the purpose of takinga census by families. I discovered the genealogical register of those who had returned in the first group, andthere I found entered:	5 Il Signore m'ispirò di radunare gli ottimati, i magistrati, ed il popolo, per farne il censimento. E ritrovai il libro del censimento di quelli che eran tornati in principio [dall'esilio], e vi si trovò scritto come appresso:
6 These are the people of the province who returned from the captivity of the Exile, those whomNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had deported, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his owntown.	6 Questi son gli uomini della provincia, che vennero dalla cattività dei deportati, nella quale li aveva condotti Nabucodonosor re di Babilonia, e che tornano in Gerusalemme ed in Giudea, ciascuno nella sua città.
7 They were the ones who arrived with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani,Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. 72 The priests, the Levites and some of the people lived in Jerusalem and thereabouts; the singers, thegatekeepers, and the temple slaves in their appropriate towns; and al the other Israelites, in their own towns.Now when the seventh month came round -- the Israelites being in their towns-	72 Ciò che dette il rimanente del popolo furono ventimila dramme d'oro, duemila mine d'argento, e sessantasette tuniche sacerdotali.
