1 Now, when the wal had been rebuilt and I had hung the doors, the gatekeepers (the singers and theLevites) were then appointed.	1 Postquam autem aedificatus est murus, et posui valvas et recen suiianitores et cantores et Levitas,
2 I entrusted the administration of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and to Hananiah the commander ofthe citadel, for he was a more trustworthy, God-fearing man than many others.	2 praeposui Hanani fratrem meum et Hananiamprincipem arcis supra Ierusalem — ipse enim quasi vir verax et timens Deumplus ceteris videbatur —
3 I said to them, 'The gates of Jerusalem must not be opened until the sun gets hot; and the doors mustbe shut and barred before it begins to go down. Detail guards from the residents of Jerusalem, each to his post,in front of his own house.'	3 et dixi eis: “ Non aperiantur portae Ierusalemusque ad calorem solis. Dum adhuc calor permanet, claudantur portae etoppilentur; et ponant custodes de habitatoribus Ierusalem, singulos per vicessuas et unumquemque contra domum suam ”.
4 The city was large and spacious but the population was smal , and the houses had not been rebuilt.	4 Civitas autem erat lata nimis et grandis, et populus parvus in medio eius, etnon erant domus aedificatae.
5 My God then inspired me to assemble the nobles, the officials and the people for the purpose of takinga census by families. I discovered the genealogical register of those who had returned in the first group, andthere I found entered:	5 Deus autem meus dedit in corde meo, et congregavioptimates et magistratus et vulgus, ut recenserem eos; et inveni librum censuseorum, qui ascenderant primum, et inventum est scriptum in eo:
6 These are the people of the province who returned from the captivity of the Exile, those whomNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had deported, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his owntown.	6 Isti filii provinciae, qui ascenderunt de captivitate migrantium, quostranstulerat Nabuchodonosor rex Babylonis, et reversi sunt in Ierusalem et inIudaeam unusquisque in civitatem suam.
7 They were the ones who arrived with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani,Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:	7 Qui venerunt cum Zorobabel, Iesua,Nehemias, Azarias, Raamias, Nahamani, Mardochaeus, Belsan, Mespharath, Beguai,Nahum, Baana. 61 The fol owing, who came from Tel-Melah, Tel-Harsha, Cherub, Addon and Immer, could not prove thattheir families and ancestry were of Israelite origin:	61 Hi sunt autem, qui ascenderunt de Thelmela, Thelharsa, Cherub, Addon et Emmeret non potuerunt indicare domum patrum suorum et semen suum, utrum ex Israelessent:

66 The whole assembly numbered forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty people,	66 Omnis multitudo simul quadraginta duo milia trecenti sexaginta,
67 not counting their slaves and maidservants to the number of seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven. They also had two hundred and forty-five male and female singers.	67 absqueservis et ancillis eorum, qui erant septem milia trecenti triginta septem;insuper et cantores et cantatrices ducenti quadraginta quinque.
68 They had four hundred and thirty-five camels and six thousand seven hundred and twenty donkeys.	68 Equi eorumseptingenti triginta sex, muli eorum ducenti quadraginta quinque,
69 A certain number of heads of families contributed to the work. His Excel ency contributed onethousand gold drachmas, fifty bowls, and thirty priestly robes to the fund.	69 camelieorum quadringenti triginta quinque, asini sex milia septingenti viginti.
70 And heads of families gave twenty thousand gold drachmas and two thousand two hundred silverminas to the work fund.	70 Nonnulli autem de principibus familiarum dederunt in opus: praepositus deditin thesaurum auri drachmas mille, phialas quinquaginta, tunicas sacerdotalesquingentas triginta;
71 The gifts made by the rest of the people amounted to twenty thousand gold drachmas, two thousandsilver minas, and sixty-seven priestly robes.	71 et de principibus familiarum dederunt in thesaurumoperis auri drachmas viginti milia et argenti minas duo milia ducentas.
72 The priests, the Levites and some of the people lived in Jerusalem and thereabouts; the singers, thegatekeepers, and the temple slaves in their appropriate towns; and al the other Israelites, in their own towns.Now when the seventh month came round -- the Israelites being in their towns-	72 Etquod dedit reliquus populus, auri drachmas viginti milia et argenti minas duomilia et tunicas sacerdotales sexaginta septem. Habitaverunt autem ibisacerdotes et Levitae; ianitores autem et cantores et quidam de populo et oblatiet omnis Israel habitaverunt in civitatibus suis.
