Nehemiah 7

1 Now, when the wal had been rebuilt and I had hung the doors, the gatekeepers (the singers and theLevites) were then appointed.	1 Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,
2 I entrusted the administration of Jerusalem to my brother Hanani, and to Hananiah the commander ofthe citadel, for he was a more trustworthy, God-fearing man than many others.	2 That I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the ruler of the palace, charge over Jerusalem: for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.
3 I said to them, 'The gates of Jerusalem must not be opened until the sun gets hot; and the doors mustbe shut and barred before it begins to go down. Detail guards from the residents of Jerusalem, each to his post,in front of his own house.'	3 And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand by, let them shut the doors, and bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one to be over against his house.
4 The city was large and spacious but the population was smal , and the houses had not been rebuilt.	4 Now the city was large and great: but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.
5 My God then inspired me to assemble the nobles, the officials and the people for the purpose of takinga census by families. I discovered the genealogical register of those who had returned in the first group, andthere I found entered:	5 And my God put into mine heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them which came up at the first, and found written therein,
6 These are the people of the province who returned from the captivity of the Exile, those whomNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had deported, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his owntown.	6 These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;
7 They were the ones who arrived with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani,Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:	7 Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number, I say, of the men of the people of Israel was this;
8 sons of Parosh, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two;	8 The children of Parosh, two thousand an hundred seventy and two.
9 sons of Shephatiah, three hundred and seventy-two;	9 The children of Shephatiah, three hundred seventy and two.
10 sons of Arah, six hundred and fifty-two;	10 The children of Arah, six hundred fifty and two.
11 sons of Pahath-Moab, that is to say sons of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand eight hundred andeighteen;	11 The children of Pahath-moab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab, two thousand and eight hundred and eighteen.
12 sons of Elam, one thousand two hundred and fifty-four;	12 The children of Elam, a thousand two hundred fifty and four.

58 sons of Jaala, sons of Darkon, sons of Giddel,	58 The children of Jaala, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel,
59 sons of Shephatiah, sons of Hattil, sons of Pochereth-ha-Zebaim, sons of Amon.	59 The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth of Zebaim, the children of Amon.
60 The total of the temple slaves and the sons of Solomon's slaves: three hundred and ninety-two.	60 All the Nethinims, and the children of Solomon's servants, were three hundred ninety and two.
61 The fol owing, who came from Tel-Melah, Tel-Harsha, Cherub, Addon and Immer, could not prove thattheir families and ancestry were of Israelite origin:	61 And these were they which went up also from Telmelah, Telharesha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer: but they could not shew their father's house, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel.
62 the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda: six hundred and forty-two.	62 The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two.
63 And among the priests: the sons of Hobaiah, the sons of Hakkoz, the sons of Barzil ai -- who hadmarried one of the daughters of Barzil ai the Gileadite, whose name he adopted.	63 And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name.
64 These had looked for their entries in the official genealogies but were not to be found there, and werehence disqualified from the priesthood.	64 These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.
65 Consequently, His Excel ency forbade them to eat any of the consecrated food until a priest appearedwho could consult urim and thummim.	65 And the Tirshatha said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.
66 The whole assembly numbered forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty people,	66 The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,
67 not counting their slaves and maidservants to the number of seven thousand three hundred and thirty-seven. They also had two hundred and forty-five male and female singers.	67 Beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women.
68 They had four hundred and thirty-five camels and six thousand seven hundred and twenty donkeys.	68 Their horses, seven hundred thirty and six: their mules, two hundred forty and five:
69 A certain number of heads of families contributed to the work. His Excel ency contributed onethousand gold drachmas, fifty bowls, and thirty priestly robes to the fund.	69 Their camels, four hundred thirty and five: six thousand seven hundred and twenty asses.
70 And heads of families gave twenty thousand gold drachmas and two thousand two hundred silverminas to the work fund.	70 And some of the chief of the fathers gave unto the work. The Tirshatha gave to the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests' garments.
71 The gifts made by the rest of the people amounted to twenty thousand gold drachmas, two thousandsilver minas, and sixty-seven priestly robes.	71 And some of the chief of the fathers gave to the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pound of silver.
72 The priests, the Levites and some of the people lived in Jerusalem and thereabouts; the singers, thegatekeepers, and the temple slaves in their appropriate towns; and al the other Israelites, in their own towns.Now when the seventh month came round -- the Israelites being in their towns-	72 And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pound of silver, and threescore and seven priests' garments.
	73 So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.
