1 Al Israel then ral ied to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 ܘܐܬܟܢܫܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܒ̈ܢܝ ܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ ܠܘܬ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܚܒܪܘܢ ܘܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܠܗ ܕܡܟ ܚܢܢ ܘܒܣܪܟ
2 In days past when Saul was king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and Yahweh your Godpromised you, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of my people Israel." '	2 ܘܐܦ ܐܬܡܠܝ ܘܡܢܬܡܠܝ ܟܕ ܫܐܘܠ ܗܘܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܥܠܝܢ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܢ̇ܦܩ ܗܘܝܬ ܘܥܐ̇ܠ ܒܪܝܫܗ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܙܠ ܐܢܬ ܬܪܥܐ ܠܥܡܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܢܬ ܬܗܘܐ ܡܕܒܪܢܐ ܥܠ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܫܒ̈ܛܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a pact with them in Yahweh'spresence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel, in accordance with the word of Yahweh throughSamuel.	3 ܘܐܬܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܫܒ̈ܛܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܘܬ ܡܠܟܐ ܠܚܒܪܘܢ ܘܝܡܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܡܘܡܬܐ ܒܚܒܪܘܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܐܩܝܡܘ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܐܬܩܝ̈ܡܝ ܡ̈ܠܘܗܝ ܕܫܡܘܐܝܠ ܢܒܝܐ ܕܡܠܠ ܗܘܐ ܒܫܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ
4 David and al Israel then marched on Jerusalem (that is to say, Jebus); the inhabitants of the territorywere the Jebusites.	4 ܘܐܙܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܟܘܠܗܘܢ ܒ̈ܢܝ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܕܗܝ ܡܬܩܪܝܐ ܗܘܬ ܝܒܘܣ ܡܢ ܠܘܩܕܡ ܘܬܡܢ ܗܘܘ ܝܒܘܣ̈ܝܐ ܥܡܘܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܕܐܪܥܐ
5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, 'You wil not get in here.' But David captured the citadel ofZion, that is, the City of David.	5 ܘܐܡ̇ܪܝܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܝܬ̈ܒܝ ܝܒܘܣ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܠܐ ܬܥܘܠ ܠܗܪܟܐ ܘܟܢܫ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܟܠܗ ܥܡܐ ܘܟܒܫ ܠܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܨܗܝܘܢ ܗܢ̈ܝܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܬܩܪ̈ܝ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܕܘܝܕ
6 David said, 'The first man to kill a Jebusite will be made army commander and chief.' Joab son ofZeruiah was the first man to go up, and was made commander of the army.	6 ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܟܠ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܢܩܛܘܠ ܠܘܩܕܡ ܓܒܪܐ ܝܒܘܣܝܐ ܗܘ ܢܗܘܐ ܪܫܐ ܘܪܒ ܚܝܠܐ ܘܣܠܩ ܝܘܐܒ ܒܪ ܨܘܪܝܐ ܠܘܩܕܡ ܘܐܩܝܡܗ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܪܫܐ ܘܪܒ ܚܝܠܐ
7 David went to live in the citadel, and that is how it came to be cal ed the City of David.	7 ܘܝܬܒ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܨܗܝܘܢ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܩ̇ܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗܝܢ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܕܘܝܕ
8 He then built a wal round the city, al round, beginning from the Mil o, and Joab restored the rest ofthe city.	8 ܘܒܢܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܚܕܪ̈ܝܗ̇ ܕܩܪܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܚܐܪܝܬܐ ܘܠܒܪ ܘܝܗܒ ܕܘܝܕ ܝܡܝܢܐ ܠܫܪܟܐ ܕܒ̈ܢܝ ܐܢܫ̈ܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ
9 Thus David grew stronger and stronger, for Yahweh Sabaoth was with him.	9 ܘܕܘܝܕ ܐܙ̇ܠ ܗܘܐ ܘܥ̇ܬܪ ܘܡܪܝܐ ܚܝܠܬܢܐ ܥܡܗ
10 These are David's principal champions who joined forces with him in his kingdom, with al Israel, tomake him king in accordance with the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.	10 ܘܗܠܝܢ ܪ̈ܝܫܐ ܕܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܕܡܥܫܢܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܡܗ ܒܡܠܟܘܬܗ ܠܡܩܡܘܬܗ ܡܠܟܐ ܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܝܟ ܡܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܡܠܠ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ
11 This is the roll of David's champions: Jashobeam son of Hachmoni, head of the Three; he it was whobrandished his spear over three hundred men whom he had kil ed at one time.	11 ܘܗܠܝܢ ܡܢܝ̈ܢܐ ܕܓܒܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܕܝܬܒ ܒܡܘܬܒܐ ܩܕܡܝܐ ܪܫܐ ܕܬܠܬܝܢ ܗܘܝܘ ܓܕܝܢܘ ܓܢܒܪܐ ܗܘ ܫܡܛ ܪܘܡܚܗ ܘܩܛܠ ܬܡܢܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܒܫܥܬܐ ܚܕܐ
12 Next, there was Eleazar son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three champions.	12 ܒܬܪܗ ܗܘܐ ܐܠܝܥܙܪ ܒܪ ܕܕܗ ܡܢ ܕܚܘܚ ܩܪܝܬܐ ܗܘ ܗܘܐ ܥܠ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ
13 He was with David at Pas-Dammim when the Philistines mustered for battle there. There was a fieldful of barley there; and the people fled from the Philistines.	13 ܟܕ ܗܘܐ ܥܡ ܕܘܝܕ ܒܦܣܕܡ̈ܝܐ ܘܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܥ̇ܒܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܬܡܢ ܩܪܒܐ ܘܗܘܬ ܬܡܢ ܚܩܠܐ ܚܕܐ ܕܙܪܝܥܐ ܣܥܪ̈ܐ ܘܥܡܐ ܐܬܒܕܪܘ ܡܢ ܩܕܡ ܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ
14 And they took their stand in the middle of the field, held it and cut down the Philistines; and Yahwehbrought about a great victory.	14 ܘܩܡܘ ܒܓܘ ܚܩܠܐ ܘܦܨܝܘܗ̇ ܘܚܪܒܘ ܠܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܘܥܒܕ ܡܪܝܐ ܢܨܚܢܐ ܪܒܐ
15 Three members of the Thirty went down to David at the rock near the Cave of Adul am while acompany of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of the Rephaim.	15 ܘܢܚܬܘ ܬܠܬܐ ܡܢ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܠܘܬ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܡܥܪܬܐ ܕܓܬܡ ܘܡܫܪ̈ܝܬܐ ܕܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܫܪ̈ܝܢ ܗܘ̈ܝ ܒܦܩܥܬܐ ܕܓܢܒܪ̈ܐ
16 David was then in the stronghold and there was a Philistine garrison in Bethlehem.	16 ܘܕܘܝܕ ܫܪܐ ܗܘܐ ܒܡܫܟܢܐ ܘܓܢܒܪ̈ܐ ܕܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܒܝܬ ܠܚܡ
17 Longingly, David said, 'If only someone would fetch me a drink of water from the wel that stands bythe gate at Bethlehem!'	17 ܘܐܬܪܓܪܓ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܡܪ ܡ̇ܢ ܕܝܢ ܝܗܒ ܠܝ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܐܫܬܝܬ ܡܢ ܓܘܒܐ ܪܒܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܠܚܡ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܬܪܥܐ ܕܩܪܝܬܐ
18 At this the three champions, forcing their way through the Philistine camp, drew water from the welthat stands by the gate of Bethlehem and, bringing it away, presented it to David. David, however, would notdrink any of it, but poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.	18 ܘܒܗ̇ ܒܫܥܬܐ ܫܡܥܘ ܬܠܬܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܨܪܘ ܘܥܠܘ ܒܡܫܪ̈ܝܬܐ ܕܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܘܐܙܠܘ ܘܡܠܘ ܡ̈ܝܐ ܡܢ ܓܘܒܐ ܪܒܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܝܬ ܠܚܡ ܒܬܪܥܐ ܕܩܪܝܬܐ ܘܢܣܒܘ ܘܐܝܬܝܘ ܘܝܗܒܘ ܠܕܘܝܕ ܘܠܐ ܨܒܐ ܠܡܫܬܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܘܢܣܟ ܐܢܘܢ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ
19 'God preserve me', he said, 'from doing such a thing! Am I to drink these men's blood? For at the riskof their lives they brought it.' And so he would not drink. Such were the deeds of the three champions.	19 ܘܐܡܪ ܚܣ ܠܝ ܡܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܕܐܥܒܕ ܗܕܐ ܩܕܡ ܐܠܗܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܢܦܩܘ ܐܙܠܘ ܥܠ ܕܡܐ ܕܨܘܪ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܘܠܐ ܨܒܐ ܠܡܫܬܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܥܒܕܘ ܬܠܬܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ
20 Abishai, brother of Joab, was leader of the Thirty. He it was who brandished his spear over threehundred men whom he had killed, winning himself a name among the Thirty.	20 ܘܐܒܝܫܝ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܕܝܘܐܒ ܗܘ ܗܘܐ ܪܫܐ ܕܬܠܬܝܢ ܘܗܘ ܫܡܛ ܪܘܡܚܐ ܥܠ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܩܛܝ̈ܠܝܢ ܘܠܗ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܐܝܩܪܐ ܥܠ ܬܠܬܝܢ
21 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty and became their captain, but he was not equal to theThree.	21 ܘܡܢ ܬܠܬܝܢ ܡܝܩܪ ܗܘܐ ܘܗܘܐ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܪܫܐ ܘܩܪܒܐ ܐܝܟ ܬܠܬܝܢ ܥܒܕ ܗܘܐ
22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada from Kabzeel was the hero of many exploits; he it was who slaughtered twoformidable Moabites and, one snowy day, climbed down and slaughtered the lion in the storage-wel .	22 ܒܢܝܐ ܒܪ ܝܘܝܕܥ ܓܒܪܐ ܓܢܒܪ ܚܝܠܐ ܕܫܦܝܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܒ̇ܕܘ̈ܗܝ ܡܢ ܟܪܟܐ ܕܩܒܨܐܝܠ ܗܘ ܚܪܒ ܠܬܪ̈ܝܢ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܝܢ ܕܡܘܐܒ ܘܗܘ ܢܚܬ ܘܩܛܠ ܠܐܪܝܐ ܒܓܘ ܥܒܐ ܒܝܘܡܐ ܕܬܠܓܐ
23 He also slaughtered an Egyptian, a man who was seven and a half feet tal . The Egyptian was armedwith a spear in his hand like a weaver's beam, but he took him on with a staff, tore the spear from the Egyptian'shand and kil ed the man with it.	23 ܘܗܘ ܩܛܠ ܠܓܒܪܐ ܡܨܪܝܐ ܓܒܪܐ ܡܪܐ ܚܝܠܐ ܕܐܪܝܟ ܗܘܐ ܚܡܫ ܐܡ̈ܝܢ ܘܒܐܝܕܗ ܕܡܨܪܝܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܪܘܡܚܐ ܕܗ̇ܘܐ ܗܘܐ ܥܒܝܐ ܕܫܢܢܗ̇ ܐܝܟ ܢܘܠܐ ܕܓܪ̈ܕܝܝܐ ܘܢܚܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܒܚܘܛܪܐ ܘܢܣܒܗ̇ ܠܪܘܡܚܐ ܡܢ ܐܝܕܘ̈ܗܝ ܕܡܨܪܝܐ ܘܩܛܠܗ ܒܗ̇ ܒܪܘܡܚܐ
24 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, winning him a name among the thirtychampions.	24 ܗܠܝܢ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܥܒܕ ܒܢܝܐ ܒܪ ܝܘܝܕܥ ܘܠܗ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܫܡܐ ܝܬܝܪ ܡܢ ܬܠܬܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܝܢ
25 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty, but he was not equal to the Three. David put him incommand of his bodyguard.	25 ܘܡܢ ܬܠܬܐ ܓܝܪ ܡܝܩܪ ܗܘܐ ܘܩܐܪܣܐ ܐܝܟ ܬܠܬܐ ܥܒܕ ܗܘܐ ܘܐܩܝܡܗ ܕܘܝܕ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܢܛܘܪܐ ܥܠ ܪܘܡܚܗ
26 The military champions were: Asahel brother of Joab; Elhanan son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;	26 ܘܥܠ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܝ ܚܝܠܐ ܥܫܐܝܠ ܐܚܘܗܝ ܕܝܘܐܒ ܐܠܚܢܢ ܒܪ ܕܕܗ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܠܚܡ
27 Shammoth of Haror; Helez the Pelonite;	27 ܫܡܘܬ ܡܢ ܛܘܪ ܡܠܟܐ ܚܠܨ ܕܡܢ ܦܠܛܘܢ
28 Ira son of Ikkesh, of Tekoa; Abiezer of Anathoth;	28 ܥܝܪܐ ܒܪ ܥܩܝܣ ܕܡܢ ܬܩܘܥ ܐܒܝܥܙܪ ܕܡܢ ܥܢܬܘܬ
29 Sibbecai of Hushah; Ilai of Ahoh;	29 ܣܒܝ ܕܡܢ ܚܘܫܬ ܥܠܝ ܕܡܢ ܚܘܚ
