1 Chronicles 11

1 Al Israel then ral ied to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 Congregatus est igitur omnis Israel ad David in Hebron dicens: “ Os tuum sumus et caro tua.
2 In days past when Saul was king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and Yahweh your Godpromised you, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of my people Israel." '	2 Heri quoque et nudiustertius, cum adhuc regnaret Saul, tu eras qui educebas et introducebas Israel; tibi enim dixit Dominus Deus tuus: “Tu pasces populum meum Israel et tu eris princeps super eum” ”.
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a pact with them in Yahweh'spresence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel, in accordance with the word of Yahweh throughSamuel.	3 Venerunt ergo omnes maiores natu Israel ad regem in Hebron, et iniit David cum eis foedus in Hebron coram Domino; unxeruntque eum regem super Israel iuxta sermonem Domini, quem locutus est in manu Samuel.
4 David and al Israel then marched on Jerusalem (that is to say, Jebus); the inhabitants of the territorywere the Jebusites.	4 Abiit quoque David et omnis Israel in Ierusalem, haec est Iebus, ubi erant Iebusaei habitatores terrae.
5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, 'You wil not get in here.' But David captured the citadel ofZion, that is, the City of David.	5 Dixeruntque, qui habitabant in Iebus, ad David: “ Non ingredieris huc ”. Porro David cepit arcem Sion, quae est civitas David;
6 David said, 'The first man to kill a Jebusite will be made army commander and chief.' Joab son ofZeruiah was the first man to go up, and was made commander of the army.	6 dixitque: “ Omnis, qui percusserit Iebusaeum, in primis erit princeps et dux ”. Ascendit igitur primus Ioab filius Sarviae et factus est princeps.
7 David went to live in the citadel, and that is how it came to be cal ed the City of David.	7 Habitavit autem David in arce, et idcirco appellata est civitas David.
8 He then built a wal round the city, al round, beginning from the Mil o, and Joab restored the rest ofthe city.	8 Aedificavitque urbem in circuitu a Mello usque ad gyrum; Ioab autem reliqua urbis instauravit.
9 Thus David grew stronger and stronger, for Yahweh Sabaoth was with him.	9 Proficiebatque David vadens et crescens, et Dominus exercituum erat cum eo.
10 These are David's principal champions who joined forces with him in his kingdom, with al Israel, tomake him king in accordance with the word of Yahweh concerning Israel.	10 Hi principes virorum fortium David, qui adiuverunt eum, ut rex fieret super omnem Israel iuxta verbum Domini, quod locutus est ad Israel;
11 This is the roll of David's champions: Jashobeam son of Hachmoni, head of the Three; he it was whobrandished his spear over three hundred men whom he had kil ed at one time.	11 et iste numerus robustorum David: Iesbaam filius Hachamon filius Hachamonitis princeps inter triginta; iste levavit hastam suam super trecentos, quos occidit impetu uno.
12 Next, there was Eleazar son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three champions.	12 Et post eum Eleazar filius Dodo Ahohites, qui erat inter tres potentes;
13 He was with David at Pas-Dammim when the Philistines mustered for battle there. There was a fieldful of barley there; and the people fled from the Philistines.	13 iste fuit cum David in Aphesdommim, quando Philisthim congregati sunt ad locum illum in proelium. Et erat ager regionis illius plenus hordeo, fugeratque populus a facie Philisthinorum.
14 And they took their stand in the middle of the field, held it and cut down the Philistines; and Yahwehbrought about a great victory.	14 Hic stetit in medio agri et defendit eum; cumque percussisset Philisthaeos, dedit Dominus salutem magnam populo suo.
15 Three members of the Thirty went down to David at the rock near the Cave of Adul am while acompany of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of the Rephaim.	15 Descenderunt autem tres de triginta principibus ad petram, in qua erat David, ad speluncam Odollam, quando Philisthim fuerant castrametati in valle Raphaim.
16 David was then in the stronghold and there was a Philistine garrison in Bethlehem.	16 Porro David erat in praesidio, et statio Philisthinorum in Bethlehem;
17 Longingly, David said, 'If only someone would fetch me a drink of water from the wel that stands bythe gate at Bethlehem!'	17 desideravit igitur David et dixit: “ O si quis daret mihi aquam de cisterna Bethlehem, quae est in porta! ”.
18 At this the three champions, forcing their way through the Philistine camp, drew water from the welthat stands by the gate of Bethlehem and, bringing it away, presented it to David. David, however, would notdrink any of it, but poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.	18 Tres ergo isti per media castra Philisthinorum perrexerunt et hauserunt aquam de cisterna Bethlehem, quae erat in porta, et attulerunt ad David, ut biberet. Qui noluit, sed magis libavit illam Domino
19 'God preserve me', he said, 'from doing such a thing! Am I to drink these men's blood? For at the riskof their lives they brought it.' And so he would not drink. Such were the deeds of the three champions.	19 dicens: “ Avertat a me Deus meus, ut hoc faciam et sanguinem virorum istorum bibam, quia in periculo animarum suarum attulerunt mihi aquam ”. Et ob hanc causam noluit bibere. Haec fecerunt tres robustissimi.
20 Abishai, brother of Joab, was leader of the Thirty. He it was who brandished his spear over threehundred men whom he had killed, winning himself a name among the Thirty.	20 Abisai quoque frater Ioab; ipse erat princeps inter triginta et ipse levavit hastam suam contra trecentos, quos interfecit, et ipse erat inter tres nominatus,
21 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty and became their captain, but he was not equal to theThree.	21 inter triginta duplici honore eminens et princeps eorum; verumtamen usque ad tres non pervenerat.
22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada from Kabzeel was the hero of many exploits; he it was who slaughtered twoformidable Moabites and, one snowy day, climbed down and slaughtered the lion in the storage-wel .	22 Banaias filius Ioiadae vir robustissimus, qui multa opera perpetrarat, de Cabseel; ipse percussit duos Ariel de Moab et ipse descendit et interfecit leonem in media cisterna tempore nivis.
23 He also slaughtered an Egyptian, a man who was seven and a half feet tal . The Egyptian was armedwith a spear in his hand like a weaver's beam, but he took him on with a staff, tore the spear from the Egyptian'shand and kil ed the man with it.	23 Et ipse percussit virum Aegyptium, cuius statura erat quinque cubitorum, et habebat lanceam ut liciatorium texentium; descendit ergo ad eum cum virga et rapuit hastam, quam tenebat manu, et interfecit eum hasta sua.
24 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, winning him a name among the thirtychampions.	24 Haec fecit Banaias filius Ioiadae, qui erat inter tres robustos nominatus,
25 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty, but he was not equal to the Three. David put him incommand of his bodyguard.	25 inter triginta primus; verumtamen ad tres usque non pervenerat, posuit autem eum David super satellites suos.
26 The military champions were: Asahel brother of Joab; Elhanan son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;	26 Porro fortissimi in exercitu: Asael frater Ioab et Elchanan filius Dodo de Bethlehem,
27 Shammoth of Haror; Helez the Pelonite;	27 Sammoth Harodites, Elica Harodites, Heles Phalonites,
28 Ira son of Ikkesh, of Tekoa; Abiezer of Anathoth;	28 Hira filius Acces Thecuites, Abiezer Anathothites,
29 Sibbecai of Hushah; Ilai of Ahoh;	29 Sobbochai Husathites, Ilai Ahohites,
30 Maharai of Netophah; Heled son of Baanah, of Netophah.	30 Maharai Netophathites, Heled filius Baana Netophathites,
