2 In days past when Saul was king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and Yahweh your Godpromised you, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of my people Israel." 6 David said, 'The first man to kill a Jebusite will be made army commander and chief.' 7 David went to live in the citadel, and that is how it came to be cal ed the City of David.	7 David ließ sich in der Burg nieder und daher nannte man sie Davidstadt.
8 He then built a wal round the city, al round, beginning from the Mil o, and Joab restored the rest ofthe city.	8 Er baute an der Stadt ringsum vom Millo an und im Umkreis, während Joab die übrige Stadt wiederherstellte.
9 Thus David grew stronger and stronger, for Yahweh Sabaoth was with him.	9 David wurde immer mächtiger und der Herr der Heere war mit ihm.

13 He was with David at Pas-Dammim when the Philistines mustered for battle there. 17 Longingly, David said, 'If only someone would fetch me a drink of water from the wel that stands bythe gate at Bethlehem!'	17 Da bekam David großen Durst und er sagte: Wer bringt mir Wasser aus der Zisterne am Tor von Betlehem?
18 At this the three champions, forcing their way through the Philistine camp, drew water from the welthat stands by the gate of Bethlehem and, bringing it away, presented it to David. David, however, would notdrink any of it, but poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.	18 Da drangen die drei Helden in das Lager der Philister ein, schöpften Wasser aus der Zisterne am Tor von Betlehem, nahmen es mit und brachten es David. 19 'God preserve me', he said, 'from doing such a thing! Am I to drink these men's blood? For at the riskof their lives they brought it.' And so he would not drink. 20 Abishai, brother of Joab, was leader of the Thirty. He it was who brandished his spear over threehundred men whom he had killed, winning himself a name among the Thirty.	20 Joabs Bruder Abischai war der Anführer der Dreißig. Er schwang seinen Speer über dreihundert Männer und erschlug sie; er hatte bei den drei Helden einen großen Namen.
21 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty and became their captain, but he was not equal to theThree.	21 Unter den Dreißig war er hoch geehrt und er wurde ihr Anführer, aber an die Drei reichte er nicht heran.
22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada from Kabzeel was the hero of many exploits; he it was who slaughtered twoformidable Moabites and, one snowy day, climbed down and slaughtered the lion in the storage-wel .	22 Benaja aus Kabzeel, der Sohn Jojadas, war ein tapferer Mann, der große Taten vollbrachte. 23 He also slaughtered an Egyptian, a man who was seven and a half feet tal . The Egyptian was armedwith a spear in his hand like a weaver's beam, but he took him on with a staff, tore the spear from the Egyptian'shand and kil ed the man with it.	23 Auch erschlug er einen riesenhaften Ägypter, der fünf Ellen groß war. Der Ägypter hatte einen Speer gleich einem Weberbaum in der Hand. Benaja aber ging nur mit einem Stock auf ihn los, riss ihm den Speer aus der Hand und tötete ihn mit diesem Speer.
24 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, winning him a name among the thirtychampions.	24 Solche Taten vollbrachte Benaja, der Sohn Jojadas. Er hatte bei den drei Helden einen großen Namen.
