1 Al Israel then ral ied to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 Tout le peuple d’Israël se rassembla auprès de David à Hébron, en disant: “Regarde, nous sommes de ta chair et de ton sang.
2 In days past when Saul was king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and Yahweh your Godpromised you, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of my people Israel." '	2 Même quand Saül était notre roi, tu conduisais les Israélites au combat; et Yahvé ton Dieu t’a dit: Tu seras le berger de mon peuple Israël, c’est toi qui le dirigeras.”
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a pact with them in Yahweh'spresence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel, in accordance with the word of Yahweh throughSamuel.	3 Alors tous les anciens d’Israël vinrent trouver le roi à Hébron et David conclut une alliance avec eux à Hébron en présence de Yahvé. Il sacrèrent David comme roi sur Israël, selon la promesse que Yahvé avait faite par la voix de Samuel.
4 David and al Israel then marched on Jerusalem (that is to say, Jebus); the inhabitants of the territorywere the Jebusites.	4 David et tous les Israélites attaquèrent Jérusalem (c’était alors Jébus et là vivaient les Jébusites).
5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, 'You wil not get in here.' But David captured the citadel ofZion, that is, the City of David.	5 Les habitants de Jébus dirent à David: “Tu n’entreras pas ici!” Mais David s’empara de la forteresse de Sion: c’est la Cité de David.
6 David said, 'The first man to kill a Jebusite will be made army commander and chief.' Joab son ofZeruiah was the first man to go up, and was made commander of the army.	6 David dit: “Le premier qui attaquera les Jébusites deviendra le chef et commandera l’armée.” C’est Joab, fils de Sérouya, qui attaqua le premier, et il devint le commandant.
7 David went to live in the citadel, and that is how it came to be cal ed the City of David.	7 David s’installa dans la forteresse, c’est pourquoi elle fut appelée la Cité de David.
8 He then built a wal round the city, al round, beginning from the Mil o, and Joab restored the rest ofthe city.	8 Alors il construisit autour de la ville depuis le Millo jusqu’aux environs, tandis que Joab restaurait le reste de la ville.
9 Thus David grew stronger and stronger, for Yahweh Sabaoth was with him.	9 David devint de plus en plus glorieux, et Yahvé Sabaot était avec lui.

11 This is the roll of David's champions: Jashobeam son of Hachmoni, head of the Three; he it was whobrandished his spear over three hundred men whom he had kil ed at one time.	11 Voici la liste de ces guerriers de David: Ishbaal le Hakmonite, le chef des Trois; un jour il donna le signal avec sa lance et tua 300 ennemis d’un seul coup.
12 Next, there was Eleazar son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three champions.	12 Après lui, Éléazar fils de Dodo, l’Ahohite; c’était l’un des Trois.
13 He was with David at Pas-Dammim when the Philistines mustered for battle there. There was a fieldful of barley there; and the people fled from the Philistines.	13 Il était auprès de David à Pasdamim où les Philistins s’étaient rassemblés avant l’attaque. Il y avait un champ plein d’orge à cet endroit. Quand les Israélites commencèrent à s’enfuir,
14 And they took their stand in the middle of the field, held it and cut down the Philistines; and Yahwehbrought about a great victory.	14 Éléazar prit position fermement dans le champ, le défendit et combattit les Philistins; Yahvé donna là aux Israélites une grande victoire.
15 Three members of the Thirty went down to David at the rock near the Cave of Adul am while acompany of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of the Rephaim.	15 Trois d’entre les Trente rejoignirent David près de la grotte d’Adoullam au temps de la moisson, tandis qu’une compagnie de Philistins campait dans la vallée de Réphaïm.
16 David was then in the stronghold and there was a Philistine garrison in Bethlehem.	16 David était à ce moment dans la forteresse, alors que les Philistins occupaient Bethléem.

18 At this the three champions, forcing their way through the Philistine camp, drew water from the welthat stands by the gate of Bethlehem and, bringing it away, presented it to David. David, however, would notdrink any of it, but poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.	18 Les Trois se frayèrent donc un passage à travers le camp des Philistins, tirèrent de l’eau de la citerne près de la porte de Bethléem et l’apportèrent pour l’offrir à David. Mais David refusa de la boire et la versa en offrande à Yahvé.
19 'God preserve me', he said, 'from doing such a thing! Am I to drink these men's blood? For at the riskof their lives they brought it.' And so he would not drink. Such were the deeds of the three champions.	19 “Dieu, dit-il, garde-moi de faire une chose pareille! Boirai-je le sang de ces hommes? Car c’est au péril de leur vie qu’ils l’ont rapportée.” Ainsi il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce qu’ont fait les Trois guerriers.
20 Abishai, brother of Joab, was leader of the Thirty. He it was who brandished his spear over threehundred men whom he had killed, winning himself a name among the Thirty.	20 Abisaï, frère de Joab, était le chef des Trente. Il donna un signal avec sa lance et abattit 300 ennemis, se faisant ainsi un nom parmi les Trente.
21 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty and became their captain, but he was not equal to theThree.	21 Il était le plus réputé des Trente et devint leur commandant, mais il ne fut pas aussi célèbre que les Trois.
22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada from Kabzeel was the hero of many exploits; he it was who slaughtered twoformidable Moabites and, one snowy day, climbed down and slaughtered the lion in the storage-wel .	22 Bénayas fils de Yoyada, un héros originaire de Qabzéel, accomplit de nombreux exploits; il tua les deux fils d’Ariel de Moab. 23 He also slaughtered an Egyptian, a man who was seven and a half feet tal . The Egyptian was armedwith a spear in his hand like a weaver's beam, but he took him on with a staff, tore the spear from the Egyptian'shand and kil ed the man with it.	23 Il tua également un Égyptien, un homme de plus de deux mètres de haut.
