1 Al Israel then ral ied to David at Hebron and said, 'Look, we are your own flesh and bone.	1 Tutto Israele si adunò pres­so David a Ebron e gli disse: « Noi siamo tue ossa e tua carne.
2 In days past when Saul was king, it was you who led Israel on its campaigns, and Yahweh your Godpromised you, "You are to shepherd my people Israel and be leader of my people Israel." '	2 Anche per l'addietro, sotto il regno di Saul eri tu che guidavi e riconducevi Israele, perchè il Si­gnore Dio tuo t'ha detto: « Tu pascerai il mio popolo Israele e ne sarai il principe ».
3 So al the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a pact with them in Yahweh'spresence at Hebron, and they anointed David as king of Israel, in accordance with the word of Yahweh throughSamuel.	3 Andati adunque tutti gli anziani d'Israele dal re in Ebron, David fece il patto con loro dinanzi al Signore; e lo unsero re sopra Israele, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detta per mezzo di Samuele.
4 David and al Israel then marched on Jerusalem (that is to say, Jebus); the inhabitants of the territorywere the Jebusites.	4 Poi David mosse con tutto Israele contro Gerusalemme o Gebus, dove eran i Gebusei abitatori del paese.
5 The inhabitants of Jebus said to David, 'You wil not get in here.' But David captured the citadel ofZion, that is, the City of David.	5 Gli abitanti di Gebus dissero a David: « Non potrai entrare qua dentro ». Ma David prese la fortezza di Sion, che è la città di David.
6 David said, 'The first man to kill a Jebusite will be made army commander and chief.' 13 He was with David at Pas-Dammim when the Philistines mustered for battle there. There was a fieldful of barley there; and the people fled from the Philistines.	13 Egli si trovò con David a Fesdomim, quando i Filistei vi si adunarono per la battaglia; la campagna di quella contrada era piena d'orzo e il popolo era fuggito dinanzi ai Filistei.
14 And they took their stand in the middle of the field, held it and cut down the Philistines; and Yahwehbrought about a great victory.	14 Fermatisi in mezzo del campo, lo difesero, e percossero i Filistei, avendo il Signore data una gran vittoria al suo popolo.
15 Three members of the Thirty went down to David at the rock near the Cave of Adul am while acompany of Philistines was encamped in the Valley of the Rephaim.	15 Tre fra i trenta capi discesero alla rocca dove stava David, presso la caverna di Odollam, quando i Filistei s'erano accampati nella valle dei Rafaim.
16 David was then in the stronghold and there was a Philistine garrison in Bethlehem.	16 David era allora nella fortezza e una stazione di Filistei era in Betlem.
17 Longingly, David said, 'If only someone would fetch me a drink of water from the wel that stands bythe gate at Bethlehem!'	17 David ebbe allora un desiderio e disse: « Oh, chi mi desse dell'acqua della cisterna di Betlem, che è vicina alla porta! »
18 At this the three champions, forcing their way through the Philistine camp, drew water from the welthat stands by the gate of Bethlehem and, bringing it away, presented it to David. David, however, would notdrink any of it, but poured it out as a libation to Yahweh.	18 Allora questi tre, passando per mezzo al campo dei Filistei, attinsero dell'acqua alla cisterna di Betlem che era vicina alla porta e la portarono a David, perchè ne bevesse; ma egli ricusò e l'offrì al Si­gnore,
19 'God preserve me', he said, 'from doing such a thing! Am I to drink these men's blood? For at the riskof their lives they brought it.' And so he would not drink. Such were the deeds of the three champions.	19 dicendo: « Lungi da me fare tal cosa nel cospetto del mio Dio, e bere il sangue di questi uomini, chè a rischio della loro vita mi han portata quest'acqua ». Per questo non volle bere. Ciò fecero questi tre uomini fortissimi.
20 Abishai, brother of Joab, was leader of the Thirty. He it was who brandished his spear over threehundred men whom he had killed, winning himself a name among the Thirty.	20 Abisai, fratello di Ioab, era il primo dei tre. Egli pure alzò la lancia contro trecento uomini e li feri a morte, ed era famosissimo fra quei tre,
21 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty and became their captain, but he was not equal to theThree.	21 e illustre fra questi tre secondi e loro capo, però non arrivò ai primi tre.
22 Benaiah son of Jehoiada from Kabzeel was the hero of many exploits; he it was who slaughtered twoformidable Moabites and, one snowy day, climbed down and slaughtered the lion in the storage-wel .	22 Banaia, figlio di Ioiada, uomo fortissimo compì molte imprese. Era di Cabseel. Egli percosse i due Ariel di Moab e fu lui che scese ad uccidere un leone in mezzo ad una cisterna al tempo della neve;
23 He also slaughtered an Egyptian, a man who was seven and a half feet tal . The Egyptian was armedwith a spear in his hand like a weaver's beam, but he took him on with a staff, tore the spear from the Egyptian'shand and kil ed the man with it.	23 fu lui che percosse un Egiziano la cui statura era di cinque cubiti e che aveva una lancia simile ad un subbio da tessitori; egli gli andò contro con un bastone, e strappatagli di mano la lancia, con questa sua lancia l'uccise.
24 Such were the exploits of Benaiah son of Jehoiada, winning him a name among the thirtychampions.	24 Ciò fece Banaia figlio di Ioiada, il quale era famosissimo fra i tre prodi,
25 He was a most il ustrious member of the Thirty, but he was not equal to the Three. David put him incommand of his bodyguard.	25 il primo dei trenta, però non arrivò ai tre primi. David lo fece suo consigliere.
26 The military champions were: Asahel brother of Joab; Elhanan son of Dodo, of Bethlehem;	26 I più valorosi nell'esercito erano Asael, fratello di Gioab, e il figlio di suo zio paterno, Elcanan di Betlem,
27 Shammoth of Haror; Helez the Pelonite;	27 e Sammot Arorita, Elles Falonita,
