1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah1 ܘܒܫܢܬ ܬܡܢܥܣܪܐ ܕܡܠܟܐ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ ܐܡܠܟ ܐܒܝܐ ܥܠ ܝܗܘܕܐ
2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.2 ܬܠܬ ܫ̈ܢܝܢ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܫܡܐ ܕܐܡܗ ܡܥܟܐ ܒܪܬ ܥܒܕܫܠܘܡ
3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.3 ܘܗܠܟ ܒܟܠܗܘܢ ܚ̈ܛܗܘܗܝ ܕܐܒܘܗܝ ܕܥܒܕ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܒܗ ܫܠܡ ܥܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗ ܐܝܟ ܠܒܐ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܘܗܝ
4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;4 ܘܡܛܠ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܝܗܒ ܠܗ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܫܪܓܐ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܕܢܩܝܡ ܒܬܪܗ ܒܪܗ ܘܢܩܝܡܝܘܗܝ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ
5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).5 ܡܛܠ ܕܥܒܕ ܕܘܝܕ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗ ܘܠܐ ܣܛܐ ܡܢ ܟܠ ܡܕܡ ܕܦܩܕܗ ܟܠ ܝܘ̈ܡܝ ܚ̈ܝܘܗܝ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܐܠܐ ܐܢ ܒܨܒܘܬܐ ܕܐܘܪܝܐ ܚܬܝܐ

7 The rest of the history of Abijam, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah? Abijam and Jeroboam made war on each other.7 ܘܫܪܟܐ ܕܦܬ̈ܓܡܘܗܝ ܕܐܒܝܐ ܘܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܥܒܕ ܗܐ ܟܬܝܒܝܢ ܒܣܦܪ ܕܒܪܝܡܝܢ ܕܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ
8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.8 ܘܫܟܒ ܐܒܝܐ ܥܡ ܐ̈ܒܗܘܗܝ ܘܐܬܩܒܪ ܒܩܪܝܬܐ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܘܐܡܠܟ ܐܣܐ ܒܪܗ ܒܬܪܗ
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah9 ܘܒܫܢܬ ܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ ܠܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܐܡܠܟ ܐܣܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ
10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.10 ܘܐܪ̈ܒܥܝܢ ܘܚܕܐ ܫ̈ܢܝܢ ܐܡܠܟ ܒܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܘܫܡܐ ܕܐܡܗ ܡܥܟܐ ܒܪܬ ܥܒܕܫܠܘܡ
11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.11 ܘܥܒܕ ܐܣܐ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܘܗܝ
12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.12 ܘܐܥܒܪ ܙܢ̈ܝܐ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܐܥܒܪ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܦܬܟܪ̈ܐ ܕܥܒܕܘ ܐ̈ܒܗܘܗܝ
13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.13 ܘܐܦ ܠܡܥܟܐ ܐܡܗ ܐܥܒܪܗ ܡܢ ܪܒܘܬܗ ܥܠ ܕܥܒܕܐ ܗܘܬ ܥܐܕܐ ܠܕܚܠܬܗ ܘܦܣܩܗ ܐܣܐ ܠܦܬܟܪܬܗ ܘܐܘܩܕܗ ܒܢܚܠܐ ܕܩܕܪܘܢ
14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.14 ܘܥ̈ܠܘܬܐ ܠܐ ܐܥܒܪ ܒܪܡ ܠܒܗ ܕܐܣܐ ܫܠܡ ܗܘܐ ܥܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܗ
15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.15 ܘܐܝܬܝ ܩܘܕܫ̈ܐ ܕܐ̈ܒܗܘܗܝ ܘܩ̈ܘܕܫܘܗܝ ܠܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܟܣܦܐ ܘܕܗܒܐ ܘܡܐ̈ܢܐ
16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.16 ܘܩܪܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܒܝܬ ܐܣܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܒܥܫܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܗܘܢ
17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.17 ܗܝܕܝܢ ܣܠܩ ܒܥܫܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܥܠ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܒܢܐ ܠܪܡܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܕܢܦܩ ܘܕܥܐܠ ܠܐܣܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ
18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,18 ܘܢܣܒ ܐܣܐ ܟܠܗ ܟܣܦܐ ܘܕܗܒܐ ܕܐܫܬܚܪ ܒܒܝܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܒܓܙܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܡܠܟܐ ܘܝܗܒ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܥܒ̈ܕܘܗܝ ܘܫܕܪ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܣܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܠܘܬ ܒܪܗܕܕ ܒܪ ܛܒܪ ܐܡܘܢ ܒܪ ܚܙܝܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܕܘܡ ܕܝܬܒ ܒܕܪܡܣܘܩ ܠܡܐܡܪ
19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'19 ܩܝܡܐ ܒܝܢܝ ܘܠܟ ܘܒܝܬ ܐܒܝ ܠܐܒܘܟ ܗܐ ܫܕܪܬ ܠܟ ܫܘܚܕܐ ܟܣܦܐ ܘܕܗܒܐ ܙܠ ܒܛܠ ܩܝܡܟ ܕܥܡ ܒܥܫܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܢܫܩܘܠ ܡܢܝ
20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.20 ܘܫܡܥ ܒܪܗܕܕ ܡܢ ܐܣܐ ܘܫܕܪ ܠܪ̈ܒܝ ܚ̈ܝܠܐ ܕܝܠܗ ܥܠ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܚܪܒܘ ܠܥܝܘܢ ܘܠܕܢ ܘܠܐܒܠ ܒܝܬ ܡܥܟܐ ܘܠܟܠܗܝܢ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܒܟܠܗ ܐܪܥܐ ܕܢܦܬܠܝ
21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.21 ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܒܥܫܐ ܦܫ ܡܢ ܕܢܒܢܝܗ ܠܪܡܬܐ ܘܝܬܒ ܒܬܪܨܐ
22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.22 ܘܡܠܟܐ ܐܣܐ ܐܫܡܥ ܠܟܠܗ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܠܝܬ ܕܚܣܝܟ ܘܫܩܠܘ ܟܐ̈ܦܐ ܕܪܡܬܐ ܘܩܝ̈ܣܐ ܕܒܢܐ ܒܥܫܐ ܘܒܢܐ ܒܗܘܢ ܡܠܟܐ ܐܣܐ ܠܓܒܥ ܕܒܢܝܡܝܢ ܘܠܡܨܦܝܐ
23 The rest of the history of Asa, al his valour, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of theAnnals of the Kings of Judah? In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.23 ܘܫܪܟܐ ܕܦܬ̈ܓܡܘܗܝ ܕܐܣܐ ܘܟܠܗ ܓܢܒܪܘܬܗ ܘܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܥܒܕ ܘܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܒܢܐ ܗܐ ܟܬܝܒܝܢ ܒܣܦܪ ܕܒܪܝܡܝܢ ܕܡ̈ܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ. ܘܒܙܒܢܐ ܕܣܝܒܘܬܗ ܕܐܣܐ ܐܬܟܪܗ ܡܢ ܪ̈ܓܠܘܗܝ
24 When Asa fell asleep with his ancestors, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of his ancestorDavid; his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him.24 ܘܫܟܒ ܐܣܐ ܥܡ ܐ̈ܒܗܘܗܝ ܘܐܬܩܒܪ ܥܡ ܐ̈ܒܗܘܗܝ ܒܩܪܝܬܐ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܠܟ ܝܘܫܦܛ ܒܪܗ ܒܬܪܗ
25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.25 ܘܢܕܒ ܒܪ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܐܡܠܟ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܒܫܢܬ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܠܐܣܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܐܡܠܟ ܥܠ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܬܪ̈ܬܝܢ ܫ̈ܢܝܢ
26 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied his father's example and the sin into which he hadled Israel.26 ܘܥܒܕ ܕܒܝܫ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܗܠܟ ܒܐܘܪܚܐ ܕܐܒܘܗܝ ܘܒܚ̈ܛܗܘܗܝ ܕܐܚܛܝ ܠܐܝܣܪܝܠ
27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.27 ܘܡܪܕ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܒܥܫܐ ܒܪ ܐܚܝܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܝܣܟܪ ܘܩܛܠܗ ܒܓܬ ܕܦܠܫ̈ܬܝܐ ܘܢܕܒ ܘܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܟܪܝܟܝܢ ܥܠ ܓܬ
28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.28 ܘܩܛܠܗ ܒܥܫܐ ܒܫܢܬ ܬܠܬ ܠܐܣܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܐܡܠܟ ܒܬܪܗ
29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,29 ܘܟܕ ܐܡܠܟ ܡܚܐ ܠܟܠܗ ܒܝܬ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܘܠܐ ܫܒܩ ܟܠ ܢܫܡܐ ܠܒܝܬ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܥܕܡܐ ܕܐܘܒܕܗ ܐܝܟ ܦܬܓܡܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܡܠܠ ܒܐܝܕܐ ܕܥܒܕܗ ܐܚܝܐ ܢܒܝܐ ܫܝܠܘܢܝܐ
30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.30 ܥܠ ܝܘܪܒܥܡ ܒܪ ܢܒܛ ܘܥܠ ܚ̈ܛܗܘܗܝ ܕܚܛܐ ܘܐܚܛܝ ܠܐܝܣܪܐܝܠ ܒܪܘܓܙܐ ܪܒܐ ܕܐܪܓܙ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ

32 the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?32 ܘܩܪܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܒܝܬ ܒܥܫܐ ܘܒܝܬ ܐܣܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܝܘܡ̈ܬܗܘܢ
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of Israel at Tirzah fortwenty-four years.33 ܘܒܫܢܬ ܬܠܬ ܠܐܣܐ ܡܠܟܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܐܡܠܟ ܒܥܫܐ ܒܪ ܐܚܝܐ ܥܠ ܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܒܬܪܨܐ ܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܐܪ̈ܒܥ ܫ̈ܢܝܢ
