1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah	1 La dix-huitième année du roi Jéroboam fils de Nabat, Abiyam devint roi de Juda.
2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.	2 Il régna trois ans à Jérusalem, sa mère était Maaka fille d’Absalom.
3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.	3 Il imita tous les péchés que ses pères avaient commis avant lui, son cœur ne fut pas tout entier à Yahvé comme l’avait été le cœur de son ancêtre David.
4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;	4 Mais Yahvé voulait garder une lampe à David à Jérusalem: son fils régna après lui à sa place et Jérusalem fut protégée.
5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).	5 En effet, David avait fait ce qui est droit aux yeux de Yahvé, il ne s’était pas détourné de toute sa vie des commandements qu’il avait reçus, sauf dans l’affaire d’Urie le Hittite.

8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.	8 Quand Abiyam se coucha avec ses pères, on l’enterra dans la cité de David; Aza, son fils, régna à sa place.
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah	9 La vingtième année de Jéroboam roi d’Israël, Aza devint roi de Juda.
10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.	10 Il régna 41 ans à Jérusalem; sa grand-mère était Maaka fille d’Absalom.
11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.	11 Aza fit ce qui est juste aux yeux de Yahvé comme David son père,
12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.	12 il fit disparaître du pays les prostitués et il enleva toutes les idoles que ses pères avaient faites.
13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.	13 Il retira même à sa grand-mère Maaka la dignité de Grande Dame, car elle avait fait une idole honteuse en l’honneur d’Astarté; Aza abattit cette idole honteuse et la brûla dans la vallée du Cédron.
14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.	14 Les Hauts-Lieux ne disparurent pas: cela n’empêche que Aza se comporta bien vis-à-vis de Yahvé durant toute sa vie.
15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.	15 Il déposa dans la Maison de Yahvé les objets que son père avait consacrés, tout comme ceux qu’il avait consacrés lui-même: de l’argent, de l’or et des vases.
16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.	16 Entre Aza et Bacha, roi d’Israël, ce fut la guerre durant toute leur vie.
17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.	17 Bacha, roi d’Israël, marcha contre Juda et fortifia Rama pour barrer la route à Aza, roi de Juda.
18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,	18 Aza rassembla alors tout l’argent et tout l’or qui étaient restés dans les trésors de la Maison de Yahvé et dans les trésors du palais royal; il les confia à ses serviteurs en même temps qu’il les envoyait vers Ben-Hadad fils de Tabrimon, fils de Hézyon, qui était roi d’Aram à Damas. Ils lui portèrent ce message:
19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'	19 “Qu’il y ait alliance entre moi et toi, entre mon père et ton père. Je te fais remettre une belle somme d’argent et d’or, mais brise ton alliance avec Bacha, roi d’Israël, pour qu’il s’éloigne de moi.”
20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.	20 Ben-Hadad écouta le roi Aza, il envoya ses chefs d’armée à l’assaut des villes d’Israël. Il frappa Iyon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maaka, toute la région du lac de Kinnéret et le pays de Nephtali tout entier.
21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.	21 Voyant cela, Bacha arrêta les travaux de fortification de Rama et rentra à Tirsa.
22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.	22 Le roi Aza convoqua alors tout Juda sans aucune exception: on enleva les pierres et le bois avec lesquels Bacha fortifiait Rama, et le roi Aza s’en servit pour fortifier Guéba de Benjamin et Mispa.

In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.	23 Le reste des actes d’Aza, ses exploits, tout ce qu’il a fait, les villes qu’il a construites, cela n’est-il pas écrit au livre des Chroniques des rois de Juda? 24 When Asa fell asleep with his ancestors, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of his ancestorDavid; his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him.	24 Lorsque Aza se coucha avec ses pères, on l’enterra avec ses pères dans la cité de David son ancêtre, et son fils Josaphat régna à sa place.
25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.	25 Nadab, fils de Jéroboam, devint roi d’Israël dans la seconde année d’Aza roi de Juda; il régna deux ans sur Israël.
26 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied his father's example and the sin into which he hadled Israel.	26 Il fit ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahvé, il suivit les traces de son père et le péché dans lequel il avait entraîné Israël.
27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.	27 Bacha fils d’Ahiya, de la tribu d’Issacar, conspira contre lui et, pendant que Nadab avec tout Israël assiégeait la ville philistine de Guibéton, il l’assassina.
28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.	28 Bacha le mit à mort en l’an trois du règne d’Aza de Juda et régna à sa place.
29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,	29 Dès qu’il fut roi, il détruisit la maison de Jéroboam tout entière; il n’y épargna aucun être vivant, mais il les tua tous selon la parole que Yahvé avait dite par son serviteur Ahiya de Silo.
30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.	30 En effet, Jéroboam avait excité la colère de Yahvé, Dieu d’Israël, par les péchés qu’il avait commis et dans lesquels il avait entraîné Israël.

33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of Israel at Tirzah fortwenty-four years.	33 En l’an trois du règne d’Aza de Juda, Bacha, fils d’Ahiya, commença à régner sur Israël à Tirsa; il régna 24 ans.
