1 Kings 15

1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah	1 ובשנת שמנה עשרה למלך ירבעם בן נבט מלך אבים על יהודה
2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.	2 שלש שנים מלך בירושלם ושם אמו מעכה בת אבישלום
3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.	3 וילך בכל חטאות אביו אשר עשה לפניו ולא היה לבבו שלם עם יהוה אלהיו כלבב דוד אביו
4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;	4 כי למען דוד נתן יהוה אלהיו לו ניר בירושלם להקים את בנו אחריו ולהעמיד את ירושלם
5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).	5 אשר עשה דוד את הישר בעיני יהוה ולא סר מכל אשר צוהו כל ימי חייו רק בדבר אוריה החתי
6 .	6 ומלחמה היתה בין רחבעם ובין ירבעם כל ימי חייו
7 The rest of the history of Abijam, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of theKings of Judah? Abijam and Jeroboam made war on each other.	7 ויתר דברי אבים וכל אשר עשה הלוא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה ומלחמה היתה בין אבים ובין ירבעם
8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.	8 וישכב אבים עם אבתיו ויקברו אתו בעיר דוד וימלך אסא בנו תחתיו
9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah	9 ובשנת עשרים לירבעם מלך ישראל מלך אסא מלך יהודה
10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.	10 וארבעים ואחת שנה מלך בירושלם ושם אמו מעכה בת אבישלום
11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.	11 ויעש אסא הישר בעיני יהוה כדוד אביו
12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.	12 ויעבר הקדשים מן הארץ ויסר את כל הגללים אשר עשו אבתיו
13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.	13 וגם את מעכה אמו ויסרה מגבירה אשר עשתה מפלצת לאשרה ויכרת אסא את מפלצתה וישרף בנחל קדרון
14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.	14 והבמות לא סרו רק לבב אסא היה שלם עם יהוה כל ימיו
15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.	15 ויבא את קדשי אביו וקדשו בית יהוה כסף וזהב וכלים
16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.	16 ומלחמה היתה בין אסא ובין בעשא מלך ישראל כל ימיהם
17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.	17 ויעל בעשא מלך ישראל על יהודה ויבן את הרמה לבלתי תת יצא ובא לאסא מלך יהודה
18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,	18 ויקח אסא את כל הכסף והזהב הנותרים באוצרות בית יהוה ואת אוצרות בית מלך ויתנם ביד עבדיו וישלחם המלך אסא אל בן הדד בן טברמן בן חזיון מלך ארם הישב בדמשק לאמר
19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'	19 ברית ביני ובינך בין אבי ובין אביך הנה שלחתי לך שחד כסף וזהב לך הפרה את בריתך את בעשא מלך ישראל ויעלה מעלי
20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.	20 וישמע בן הדד אל המלך אסא וישלח את שרי החילים אשר לו על ערי ישראל ויך את עיון ואת דן ואת אבל בית מעכה ואת כל כנרות על כל ארץ נפתלי
21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.	21 ויהי כשמע בעשא ויחדל מבנות את הרמה וישב בתרצה
22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.	22 והמלך אסא השמיע את כל יהודה אין נקי וישאו את אבני הרמה ואת עציה אשר בנה בעשא ויבן בם המלך אסא את גבע בנימן ואת המצפה
23 The rest of the history of Asa, al his valour, his entire career, is this not recorded in the Book of theAnnals of the Kings of Judah? In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.	23 ויתר כל דברי אסא וכל גבורתו וכל אשר עשה והערים אשר בנה הלא המה כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי יהודה רק לעת זקנתו חלה את רגליו
24 When Asa fell asleep with his ancestors, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of his ancestorDavid; his son Jehoshaphat succeeded him.	24 וישכב אסא עם אבתיו ויקבר עם אבתיו בעיר דוד אביו וימלך יהושפט בנו תחתיו
25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.	25 ונדב בן ירבעם מלך על ישראל בשנת שתים לאסא מלך יהודה וימלך על ישראל שנתים
26 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied his father's example and the sin into which he hadled Israel.	26 ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה וילך בדרך אביו ובחטאתו אשר החטיא את ישראל
27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.	27 ויקשר עליו בעשא בן אחיה לבית יששכר ויכהו בעשא בגבתון אשר לפלשתים ונדב וכל ישראל צרים על גבתון
28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.	28 וימתהו בעשא בשנת שלש לאסא מלך יהודה וימלך תחתיו
29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,	29 ויהי כמלכו הכה את כל בית ירבעם לא השאיר כל נשמה לירבעם עד השמדו כדבר יהוה אשר דבר ביד עבדו אחיה השילני
30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.	30 על חטאות ירבעם אשר חטא ואשר החטיא את ישראל בכעסו אשר הכעיס את יהוה אלהי ישראל
31 The rest of the history of Nadab, his entire career, is this not recorded in	31 ויתר דברי נדב וכל אשר עשה הלא הם כתובים על ספר דברי הימים למלכי ישראל
32 the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?	32 ומלחמה היתה בין אסא ובין בעשא מלך ישראל כל ימיהם
33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of Israel at Tirzah fortwenty-four years.	33 בשנת שלש לאסא מלך יהודה מלך בעשא בן אחיה על כל ישראל בתרצה עשרים וארבע שנה
34 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied the example of Jeroboam and the sin into which hehad led Israel.	34 ויעש הרע בעיני יהוה וילך בדרך ירבעם ובחטאתו אשר החטיא את ישראל
