1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah	1 L'anno diciottesimo del regno di Geroboamo figlio di Nabat, Abiam regnò sopra Giuda,
2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.	2 Egli regnò tre anni in Gerusalemme; la sua madre si chiamava Maaca, figlia di Abessalom.
3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.	3 Anche lui camminò in tutti i peccati che suo padre aveva commessi prima di lui, e il suo cuore non fu perfetto col Signore Dio suo, come il cuore di David suo padre;
4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;	4 ma per amor di David il Signore Dio suo gli diede una lampada in Gerusalemme, suscitando dopo di lui il suo figlio e lasciando sussistere Gerusalemme,
5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).	5 perchè David aveva fatto ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore, senza traviare in nulla di tutto ciò che egli aveva comandato, per tutti i giorni di sua vita, eccettuato il fatto di Uria l'Eteo.
6 .	6 Roboamo fe' guerra per tutto il tempo della sua vita a Geroboamo.

11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.	11 Asa fece ciò che era giusto nel cospetto del Signore, come David suo padre,
12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.	12 e tolse via dal paese gli effeminati, e lo purificò da tutte le sozzure degli idoli che i suoi padri avevan fabbricato.
13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.	13 Di più allontanò la sua madre Maaca, perchè non fosse più preposta ai sacrifizi di Priapo e al bosco che essa gli aveva consacrato, egli distrusse la sua spelonca, ne spezzò il turpissimo simulacro che bruciò nel torrente Cedron;
14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.	14 ma non tolse gli alti luoghi. Però il cuore di Asa fu perfetto col Signore per tutta la vita,
15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.	15 e portò nella casa del Signore le cose che suo padre aveva consacrate e offerte in voto, l'oro, l'argento e i vasi.
16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.	16 Vi fu guerra tra Asa e Baasa re d'Israele per tutto il loro tempo.
17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.	17 Or avendo Baasa re d'Israele invaso Giuda ed edificato Rama, affinchè nessuno potesse uscire o entrare dalla parte di Asa re di Giuda,
18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,	18 Asa, preso tutto l'oro e l'argento che era rimasto nei tesori della casa del Signore e nei tesori della casa reale, lo mise nelle mani dei suoi servi, e li mandò da Benadad, figlio di Tabremon figlio di Ezion, re della Siria, che abitava in Damasco, a dirgli:
19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'	19 «Vi è alleanza fra me e te, fra il mio padre e il tuo, ti mando quindi dei presenti, dell'argento e dell'oro, e ti prego di venire a render vana l'alleanza che hai con Baasa re d'Israele, affinchè egli si ritragga da me ».
20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.	20 Benadad ascoltò il re Asa e spedi i capi del suo esercito contro le città d'Israele, e fece espugnare Ahion, Dan, Abelcasa di Maaca e tutto Cennerot, cioè tutta la terra di Neftali.
21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.	21 Baasa, saputa la cosa, cessò di edificare Rama e se ne tornò a Tersa.
22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.	22 Allora Asa mandò un messo per tutto Giuda a dire: « Nessuno manchi ». Cosi presero le pietre da Rama e i legnami con cui Baasa aveva fabbricato, e con essi il re Asa fabbricò Gabaa di Beniamino e Masfa.

25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.	25 L'anno secondo di Asa re di Giuda regnò sopra Israele Nadab figlio di Geroboamo. Regnò sopra Israele per due anni,
26 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied his father's example and the sin into which he hadled Israel.	26 e fece ciò che è male nel cospetto del Signore, camminò nelle vie di suo padre, nei peccati coi quali egli aveva fatto peccare Israele.
27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.	27 Or Baasa, figlio di Ahia, della casa d'Issacar, tese insidie a Nadab, e lo uccise presso Gebbeton, città dei Filistei, mentre Nadab e tutto Israele assediavan Gebbeton.
28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.	28 Baasa l'uccise l'anno terzo di Asa re di Giuda e regnò in luogo suo,
29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,	29 e, divenuto re, sterminò tutta la casa di Geroboamo; non lasciò neppure un'anima di quella stirpe, andò fino al completo sterminio, secondo la parola che il Signore aveva detto per mezzo del suo servo Ahia Silonita,
30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.	30 a causa dei peccati che Geroboamo aveva commessi, e coi quali aveva fatto peccare Israele, a causa dell'iniquità colla quale aveva irritato il Signore Dio d'Israele,

33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of Israel at Tirzah fortwenty-four years.	33 L'anno terzo di Asa re di Giuda, Baasa, figlio di Ahia, regnò sopra tutto Israele, in Tersa, per ventiquattro anni.
34 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied the example of Jeroboam and the sin into which hehad led Israel.	34 Egli fece il male dinanzi al Signore, e camminò nelle vie di Geroboamo, e nei peccati con cui egli fece peccare Israele.
