1 Thessalonians 5

1 Concerning times and seasons, brothers, you have no need for anything to be written to you.	1 De temporibus autem et mo mentis, fratres, non indigetis, ut scribaturvobis;
2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night.	2 ipsi enim diligenter scitis quia dies Domini, sicut fur in nocte, itaveniet.
3 When people are saying, "Peace and security," then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman,and they will not escape.	3 Cum enim dixerint: “ Pax et securitas ”, tunc repentinus eissuperveniet interitus, sicut dolor in utero habenti, et non effugient.
4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief.	4 Vosautem, fratres, non estis in tenebris, ut vos dies ille tamquam furcomprehendat;
5 For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness.	5 omnes enim vos filii lucis estis et filii diei. Non sumus noctisneque tenebrarum;
6 Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober.	6 igitur non dormiamus sicut ceteri, sed vigilemus et sobriisimus.
7 Those who sleep go to sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night.	7 Qui enim dormiunt, nocte dormiunt; et, qui ebrii sunt, nocte inebriantur.
8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet that is hope for salvation.	8 Nos autem, qui diei sumus, sobrii simus, induti loricam fidei et caritatis etgaleam spem salutis;
9 For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 quoniam non posuit nos Deus in iram sed in acquisitionemsalutis per Dominum nostrum Iesum Christum,
10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him.	10 qui mortuus est pro nobis, utsive vigilemus sive dormiamus, simul cum illo vivamus.
11 Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.	11 Propter quodconsolamini invicem et aedificate alterutrum, sicut et facitis.
12 We ask you, brothers, to respect those who are laboring among you and who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you,	12 Rogamus autem vos, fratres, ut noveritis eos, qui laborant inter vos etpraesunt vobis in Domino et monent vos,
13 and to show esteem for them with special love on account of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.	13 ut habeatis illos superabundanter incaritate propter opus illorum. Pacem habete inter vos.
14 We urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, cheer the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient with all.	14 Hortamur autem vos,fratres: corripite inquietos, consolamini pusillanimes, suscipite infirmos,longanimes estote ad omnes.
15 See that no one returns evil for evil; rather, always seek what is good (both) for each other and for all.	15 Videte, ne quis malum pro malo alicui reddat, sedsemper, quod bonum est, sectamini et in invicem et in omnes.
16 Rejoice always.	16 Semper gaudete,
17 Pray without ceasing.	17 sine intermissione orate,
18 In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.	18 in omnibus gratias agite; haec enim voluntas Deiest in Christo Iesu erga vos.
19 Do not quench the Spirit.	19 Spiritum nolite exstinguere,
20 Do not despise prophetic utterances.	20 prophetiasnolite spernere;
21 Test everything; retain what is good.	21 omnia autem probate, quod bonum est tenete,
22 Refrain from every kind of evil.	22 ab omnispecie mala abstinete vos.
23 May the God of peace himself make you perfectly holy and may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Ipse autem Deus pacis sanctificet vos per omnia, et integer spiritus vesteret anima et corpus sine querela in adventu Domini nostri Iesu Christi servetur.
24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also accomplish it.	24 Fidelis est, qui vocat vos, qui etiam faciet.
25 Brothers, pray for us (too).	25 Fratres, orate etiam pro nobis.
26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.	26 Salutate fratres omnes in osculo sancto.
27 I adjure you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the brothers.	27 Adiuro vos per Dominum, utlegatur epistula omnibus fratribus.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.	28 Gratia Domini nostri Iesu Christivobiscum.
