NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
When he looked up he saw some wealthy people putting their offerings into the treasury1 Respiciens autem vidit eos, qui mittebant munera sua in gazophylacium,divites.
and he noticed a poor widow putting in two small coins.2 Vidit autem quandam viduam pauperculam mittentem illuc minuta duo
He said, "I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest;3 et dixit: “ Vere dico vobis: Vidua haec pauper plus quam omnes misit.
for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood."4 Namomnes hi ex abundantia sua miserunt in munera; haec autem ex inopia sua omnemvictum suum, quem habebat, misit ”.
While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, he said,5 Et quibusdam dicentibus de templo, quod lapidibus bonis et donis ornatum,esset dixit:
"All that you see here--the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down."6 “ Haec quae videtis, venient dies, in quibus non relinqueturlapis super lapidem, qui non destruatur ”.
Then they asked him, "Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?"7 Interrogaverunt autem illumdicentes: “ Praeceptor, quando ergo haec erunt, et quod signum, cum fieriincipient? ”.
He answered, "See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, 'I am he,' and 'The time has come.' Do not follow them!8 Qui dixit: “ Videte, ne seducamini. Multi enim venient innomine meo dicentes: “Ego sum” et: “Tempus appropinquavit”. Nolite ergoire post illos.
When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end."9 Cum autem audieritis proelia et seditiones, nolite terreri;oportet enim primum haec fieri, sed non statim finis ”.
Then he said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.10 Tunc dicebat illis: “ Surget gens contra gentem, et regnum adversus regnum;
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.11 et terrae motus magni et per loca fames et pestilentiae erunt, terroresque etde caelo signa magna erunt.
"Before all this happens, however, they will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons, and they will have you led before kings and governors because of my name.12 Sed ante haec omnia inicient vobis manus suas etpersequentur tradentes in synagogas et custodias, et trahemini ad reges etpraesides propter nomen meum;
It will lead to your giving testimony.13 continget autem vobis in testimonium.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,14 Poniteergo in cordibus vestris non praemeditari quemadmodum respondeatis;
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.15 ego enimdabo vobis os et sapientiam, cui non poterunt resistere vel contradicere omnesadversarii vestri.
You will even be handed over by parents, brothers, relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to death.16 Trademini autem et a parentibus et fratribus et cognatiset amicis, et morte afficient ex vobis,
You will be hated by all because of my name,17 et eritis odio omnibus propter nomenmeum.
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.18 Et capillus de capite vestro non peribit.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives.19 In patientia vestrapossidebitis animas vestras.
"When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, know that its desolation is at hand.20 Cum autem videritis circumdari ab exercitu Ierusalem, tunc scitote quiaappropinquavit desolatio eius.
Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. Let those within the city escape from it, and let those in the countryside not enter the city,21 Tunc, qui in Iudaea sunt, fugiant in montes;et, qui in medio eius, discedant; et, qui in regionibus, non intrent in eam.
for these days are the time of punishment when all the scriptures are fulfilled.22 Quia dies ultionis hi sunt, ut impleantur omnia, quae scripta sunt.
Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days, for a terrible calamity will come upon the earth and a wrathful judgment upon this people.23 Vae autempraegnantibus et nutrientibus in illis diebus! Erit enim pressura magna superterram et ira populo huic,
They will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken as captives to all the Gentiles; and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.24 et cadent in ore gladii et captivi ducentur inomnes gentes, et Ierusalem calcabitur a gentibus, donec impleantur temporanationum.
"There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves.25 Et erunt signa in sole et luna et stellis, et super terram pressura gentiumprae confusione sonitus maris et fluctuum,
People will die of fright in anticipation of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.26 arescentibus hominibus prae timoreet exspectatione eorum, quae supervenient orbi, nam virtutes caelorummovebuntur.
And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.27 Et tunc videbunt Filium hominis venientem in nube cum potestateet gloria magna.
But when these signs begin to happen, stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand."28 His autem fieri incipientibus, respicite et levate capita vestra, quoniamappropinquat redemptio vestra ”.
He taught them a lesson. "Consider the fig tree and all the other trees.29 Et dixit illis similitudinem: “ Videte ficulneam et omnes arbores:
When their buds burst open, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near;30 cumiam germinaverint, videntes vosmetipsi scitis quia iam prope est aestas.
in the same way, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near.31 Itaet vos, cum videritis haec fieri, scitote quoniam prope est regnum Dei.
Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things have taken place.32 Amendico vobis: Non praeteribit generatio haec, donec omnia fiant.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.33 Caelum etterra transibunt, verba autem mea non transibunt.
"Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise34 Attendite autem vobis, ne forte graventur corda vestra in crapula etebrietate et curis huius vitae, et superveniat in vos repentina dies illa;
like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth.35 tamquam laqueus enim superveniet in omnes, qui sedent super faciem omnis terrae.
Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man."36 Vigilate itaque omni tempore orantes, ut possitis fugere ista omnia, quaefutura sunt, et stare ante Filium hominis ”.
During the day, Jesus was teaching in the temple area, but at night he would leave and stay at the place called the Mount of Olives.37 Erat autem diebus docens in templo, noctibus vero exiens morabatur in monte,qui vocatur Oliveti.
And all the people would get up early each morning to listen to him in the temple area.38 Et omnis populus manicabat ad eum in templo audire eum.
