NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.1 Tunc simile erit regnum cae lorum decem virginibus, quae accipienteslampades suas exierunt obviam sponso.
Five of them were foolish and five were wise.2 Quinque autem ex eis erant fatuae, etquinque prudentes.
The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them,3 Fatuae enim, acceptis lampadibus suis, non sumpserunt oleumsecum;
but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps.4 prudentes vero acceperunt oleum in vasis cum lampadibus suis.
Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.5 Moramautem faciente sponso, dormitaverunt omnes et dormierunt.
At midnight, there was a cry, 'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'6 Media autem nocteclamor factus est: “Ecce sponsus! Exite obviam ei”.
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.7 Tunc surrexerunt omnesvirgines illae et ornaverunt lampades suas.
The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'8 Fatuae autem sapientibus dixerunt:“Date nobis de oleo vestro, quia lampades nostrae exstinguuntur”.
But the wise ones replied, 'No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.'9 Responderunt prudentes dicentes: “Ne forte non sufficiat nobis et vobis, itepotius ad vendentes et emite vobis”.
While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked.10 Dum autem irent emere, venit sponsus,et quae paratae erant, intraverunt cum eo ad nuptias; et clausa est ianua.
Afterwards the other virgins came and said, 'Lord, Lord, open the door for us!'11 Novissime autem veniunt et reliquae virgines dicentes: “Domine, domine, aperinobis”.
But he said in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.'12 At ille respondens ait: “Amen dico vobis: Nescio vos”.
Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.13 Vigilate itaque, quia nescitis diem neque horam.
"It will be as when a man who was going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them.14 Sicut enim homo peregre proficiscens vocavit servos suos et tradidit illisbona sua.
To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one--to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Immediately15 Et uni dedit quinque talenta, alii autem duo, alii vero unum,unicuique secundum propriam virtutem, et profectus est. Statim
the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five.16 abiit, quiquinque talenta acceperat, et operatus est in eis et lucratus est alia quinque;
Likewise, the one who received two made another two.17 similiter qui duo acceperat, lucratus est alia duo.
But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money.18 Qui autem unumacceperat, abiens fodit in terra et abscondit pecuniam domini sui.
After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them.19 Postmultum vero temporis venit dominus servorum illorum et ponit rationem cum eis.
The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.'20 Et accedens, qui quinque talenta acceperat, obtulit alia quinque talentadicens: “Domine, quinque talenta tradidisti mihi; ecce alia quinquesuperlucratus sum”.
His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.'21 Ait illi dominus eius: “Euge, serve bone et fidelis.Super pauca fuisti fidelis; supra multa te constituam: intra in gaudium dominitui”.
(Then) the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, 'Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.'22 Accessit autem et qui duo talenta acceperat, et ait: “Domine, duotalenta tradidisti mihi; ecce alia duo lucratus sum”.
His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.'23 Ait illi dominuseius: “Euge, serve bone et fidelis. Super pauca fuisti fidelis; supra multa teconstituam: intra in gaudium domini tui”.
Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, 'Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter;24 Accedens autem et qui unumtalentum acceperat, ait: “Domine, novi te quia homo durus es: metis, ubi nonseminasti, et congregas, ubi non sparsisti;
so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.'25 et timens abii et absconditalentum tuum in terra. Ecce habes, quod tuum est”.
His master said to him in reply, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter?26 Respondens autemdominus eius dixit ei: “Serve male et piger! Sciebas quia meto, ubi nonseminavi, et congrego, ubi non sparsi?
Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return?27 Oportuit ergo te mittere pecuniam meamnummulariis, et veniens ego recepissem, quod meum est cum usura.
Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten.28 Tolliteitaque ab eo talentum et date ei, qui habet decem talenta:
For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.29 omni enim habentidabitur, et abundabit; ei autem, qui non habet, et quod habet, auferetur ab eo.
And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'30 Et inutilem servum eicite in tenebras exteriores: illic erit fletus etstridor dentium”.
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne,31 Cum autem venerit Filius hominis in gloria sua, et omnes angeli cum eo, tuncsedebit super thronum gloriae suae.
and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.32 Et congregabuntur ante eum omnes gentes;et separabit eos ab invicem, sicut pastor segregat oves ab haedis,
He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.33 et statuetoves quidem a dextris suis, haedos autem a sinistris.
Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.34 Tunc dicet Rex his, quia dextris eius erunt: “Venite, benedicti Patris mei; possidete paratum vobisregnum a constitutione mundi.
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,35 Esurivi enim, et dedistis mihi manducare;sitivi, et dedistis mihi bibere; hospes eram, et collegistis me;
naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'36 nudus, etoperuistis me; infirmus, et visitastis me; in carcere eram, et venistis ad me”.
Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?37 Tunc respondebunt ei iusti dicentes: “Domine, quando te vidimus esurientemet pavimus, aut sitientem et dedimus tibi potum?
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?38 Quando autem te vidimushospitem et collegimus, aut nudum et cooperuimus?
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'39 Quando autem te vidimusinfirmum aut in carcere et venimus ad te?”.
And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'40 Et respondens Rex dicet illis:“Amen dico vobis: Quamdiu fecistis uni de his fratribus meis minimis, mihifecistis”.
Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.41 Tunc dicet et his, qui a sinistris erunt: “Discedite a me,maledicti, in ignem aeternum, qui praeparatus est Diabolo et angelis eius.
For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,42 Esurivi enim, et non dedistis mihi manducare; sitivi, et non dedistis mihipotum;
a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'43 hospes eram, et non collegistis me; nudus, et non operuistis me;infirmus et in carcere, et non visitastis me”.
Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?'44 Tunc respondebunt et ipsidicentes: “Domine, quando te vidimus esurientem aut sitientem aut hospitem autnudum aut infirmum vel in carcere et non ministravimus tibi?”.
He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.'45 Tuncrespondebit illis dicens: “Amen dico vobis: Quamdiu non fecistis uni deminimis his, nec mihi fecistis”.
And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."46 Et ibunt hi in supplicium aeternum, iustiautem in vitam aeternam ”.
