"Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be like to ten virgins, who taking their lamps went out to meet the bridegroom and the bride.
Five of them were foolish and five were wise.2 And five of them were foolish, and five wise.
The foolish ones, when taking their lamps, brought no oil with them,3 But the five foolish, having taken their lamps, did not take oil with them:
but the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps.4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with the lamps.
Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.5 And the bridegroom tarrying, they all slumbered and slept.
At midnight, there was a cry, 'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!'6 And at midnight there was a cry made: Behold the bridegroom cometh, go ye forth to meet him.
Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps.7 Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps.
The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.'8 And the foolish said to the wise: Give us of your oil, for our lamps are gone out.
But the wise ones replied, 'No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.'9 The wise answered, saying: Lest perhaps there be not enough for us and for you, go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
While they went off to buy it, the bridegroom came and those who were ready went into the wedding feast with him. Then the door was locked.10 Now whilst they went to buy, the bridegroom came: and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.
Afterwards the other virgins came and said, 'Lord, Lord, open the door for us!'11 But at last come also the other virgins, saying: Lord, Lord, open to us.
But he said in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, I do not know you.'12 But he answering said: Amen I say to you, I know you not.
Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour.13 Watch ye therefore, because you know not the day nor the hour.
"It will be as when a man who was going on a journey called in his servants and entrusted his possessions to them.14 For even as a man going into a far country, called his servants, and delivered to them his goods;
To one he gave five talents; to another, two; to a third, one--to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Immediately15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to every one according to his proper ability: and immediately he took his journey.
the one who received five talents went and traded with them, and made another five.16 And he that had received the five talents, went his way, and traded with the same, and gained other five.
Likewise, the one who received two made another two.17 And in like manner he that had received the two, gained other two.
But the man who received one went off and dug a hole in the ground and buried his master's money.18 But he that had received the one, going his way digged into the earth, and hid his lord's money.
After a long time the master of those servants came back and settled accounts with them.19 But after a long time the lord of those servants came, and reckoned with them.
The one who had received five talents came forward bringing the additional five. He said, 'Master, you gave me five talents. See, I have made five more.'20 And he that had received the five talents coming, brought other five talents, saying: Lord, thou didst deliver to me five talents, behold I have gained other five over and above.
His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.'21 His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant, because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
(Then) the one who had received two talents also came forward and said, 'Master, you gave me two talents. See, I have made two more.'22 And he also that had received the two talents came and said: Lord, thou deliveredst two talents to me: behold I have gained other two.
His master said to him, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master's joy.'23 His lord said to him: Well done, good and faithful servant: because thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will place thee over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
Then the one who had received the one talent came forward and said, 'Master, I knew you were a demanding person, harvesting where you did not plant and gathering where you did not scatter;24 But he that had received the one talent, came and said: Lord, I know that thou art a hard man; thou reapest where thou hast not sown, and gatherest where thou hast not strewed.
so out of fear I went off and buried your talent in the ground. Here it is back.'25 And being afraid I went and hid thy talent in the earth: behold here thou hast that which is thine.
His master said to him in reply, 'You wicked, lazy servant! So you knew that I harvest where I did not plant and gather where I did not scatter?26 And his lord answering, said to him: Wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sow not, and gather where I have not strewed:
Should you not then have put my money in the bank so that I could have got it back with interest on my return?27 Thou oughtest therefore to have committed my money to the bankers, and at my coming I should have received my own with usury.
Now then! Take the talent from him and give it to the one with ten.28 Take ye away therefore the talent from him, and give it to him that hath ten talents.
For to everyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.29 For to every one that hath shall be given, and he shall abound: but from him that hath not, that also which he seemeth to have shall be taken away.
And throw this useless servant into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'30 And the unprofitable servant cast ye out into the exterior darkness. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit upon his glorious throne,31 And when the Son of man shall come in his majesty, and all the angels with him, then shall he sit upon the seat of his majesty.
and all the nations will be assembled before him. And he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.32 And all nations shall be gathered together before him, and he shall separate them one from another, as the shepherd separateth the sheep from the goats:
He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on his left.
Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.34 Then shall the king say to them that shall be on his right hand: Come, ye blessed of my Father, possess you the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,35 For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in:
naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'36 Naked, and you covered me: sick, and you visited me: I was in prison, and you came to me.
Then the righteous will answer him and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?37 Then shall the just answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, and fed thee; thirsty, and gave thee drink?
When did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you?38 And when did we see thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and covered thee?
When did we see you ill or in prison, and visit you?'39 Or when did we see thee sick or in prison, and came to thee?
And the king will say to them in reply, 'Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me.'40 And the king answering, shall say to them: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.
Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you accursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.41 Then he shall say to them also that shall be on his left hand: Depart from me, you cursed, into everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,42 For I was hungry, and you gave me not to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me not to drink.
a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.'43 I was a stranger, and you took me not in: naked, and you covered me not: sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.
Then they will answer and say, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?'44 Then they also shall answer him, saying: Lord, when did we see thee hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to thee?
He will answer them, 'Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.'45 Then he shall answer them, saying: Amen I say to you, as long as you did it not to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.
And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."46 And these shall go into everlasting punishment: but the just, into life everlasting.
