1 I am a man who knows affliction from the rod of his anger,	1 ALEF. Io son l'uomo che ho vista la mia miseria sotto la verga del suo furore. ALEF.
2 One whom he has led and forced to walk in darkness, not in the light;	2 M'ha condotto e m'ha fatto camminare nelle tenebre e non nella luce. ALEF.
3 Against me alone he brings back his hand again and again all the day.	3 Contro me solo stese e ristese tutto il giorno la sua mano. BEI.
4 He has worn away my flesh and my skin, he has broken my bones;	4 Ha consumato la mia pelle e la mia carne, ha stritolate le mie ossa. BET.
5 He has beset me round about with poverty and weariness;	5 Ha alzato un muro intorno a me, m'ha ravvolta nell'amarezza e nell'affanno. BET.
6 He has left me to dwell in the dark like those long dead.	6 Mi pose in luoghi tenebrosi, come quelli che son morti per sempre. GHIMEL.
7 He has hemmed me in with no escape and weighed me down with chains;	7 Mi serrò dentro un muro, da unii potere uscirne, aggravò i miei ceppi. GHIMEL.
8 Even when I cry out for help, he stops my prayer;	8 E quand'anche io alzi le grida e lo preghi, ha chiuso il varco alla mia preghiera. GHIMEL.
9 He has blocked my ways with fitted stones, and turned my paths aside.	9 Mi ha chiuse le mie strade con pietre quadrate, ha rovinati i miei sentieri. DALET.
10 A lurking bear he has been to me, a lion in ambush!	10 E ' divenuto per me un orso in agguato, un leone in nascondigli. DALET.
11 He deranged my ways, set me astray, left me desolate.	11 Ha rovinati i miei sentieri, mi ha ridotta in brandelli, mi ha abbandonata alla desolazione. DALET.
12 He bent his bow, and set me up as the target for his arrow.	12 Tese il suo arco e mi pose qual bersaglio alle frecce. HE.
13 He pierces my sides with shafts from his quiver.	13 M'ha confitte nei reni le frecce del suo turcasso. HE.
14 I have become a laughingstock for all nations, their taunt all the day long;	14 Son divenuto il ludibrio di tutto il mio popolo, la loro canzone di tutto il giorno. HE.
15 He has sated me with bitter food, made me drink my fill of wormwood.	15 Mi ha ripieno di amarezza, mi ha inebriato d'assenzio. VAU.
16 He has broken my teeth with gravel, pressed my face in the dust;	16 Ed ha spezzati ad uno ad lino tutti i miei denti, mi ha cibato di cenere. VAU.
17 My soul is deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is;	17 L'anima mia è allontanata dalla pace, non so più che cosa sia il bene. VAU.
18 I tell myself my future is lost, all that I hoped for from the LORD.	18 Ed io ho detto: « Svanì la mia ultima aspettativa e la mia speranza nel Signore ». ZAIN.
19 The thought of my homeless poverty is wormwood and gall;	19 Ricordati della mia miseria, del mio eccesso, dell'assenzio e del fiele. ZAIN.
20 Remembering it over and over leaves my soul downcast within me.	20 Io vo continuamente ricordando, e si strugge dentro di me l'anima mia. ZAIN.
21 But I will call this to mind, as my reason to have hope:	21 Ritorno sopra queste cose col mio cuore e per questo avrò speranza. HET.
22 The favors of the LORD are not exhausted, his mercies are not spent;	22 Per le misericordie del Signore non siamo stati annientati, chè non cesssaron mai le sue misericordie! HET.
23 They are renewed each morning, so great is his faithfulness.	23 Si rinnovellano ogni mattina. Grande è la tua fedeltà! HET.
24 My portion is the LORD, says my soul; therefore will I hope in him.	24 La mia porzione è il Signore — ha detto l'anima mia, — per questo lo aspetterò. TET.
25 Good is the LORD to one who waits for him, to the soul that seeks him;	25 Il Signore è buono per chi spera in lui, per l'anima che lo cerca. TET.
26 It is good to hope in silence for the saving help of the LORD.	26 E' bene aspettare in silenzio il soccorso di Dio. TET.
27 It is good for a man to bear the yoke from his youth.	27 E' bene per l'uomo aver portato il giogo fin dalla sua adolescenza. IOD.
28 Let him sit alone and in silence, when it is laid upon him.	28 Sederà solitario e taciturno, perchè se l'è tolto sopra di sè. IOD.
29 Let him put his mouth to the dust; there may yet be hope.	29 Porrà la sua bocca nella polvere senza perdere la speranza. IOD.
30 Let him offer his cheek to be struck, let him be filled with disgrace.	30 Porgerà la guancia a chi lo percuote, e sarà saziato d'obbrobri. CAF.
31 For the Lord's rejection does not last forever;	31 Ma il Signore non rigetterà per sempre; CAF.
32 Though he punishes, he takes pity, in the abundance of his mercies;	32 E se ci ha rigettati, avrà anche compassione secondo la moltitudine delle sue misericordie. CAF.
33 He has no joy in afflicting or grieving the sons of men.	33 Perchè non è secondo il suo cuore umiliare e scacciare i figli degli uomini. LAMED.
34 When anyone tramples underfoot all the prisoners in the land,	34 Se si calpestano sotto i piedi tutti gli schiavi della terra. LAMED.
35 When he distorts men's rights in the very sight of the Most High,	35 Se si viola il diritto dell'uomo nel cospetto dell'Altissimo. LAMED.
36 When he presses a crooked claim, the Lord does not look on unconcerned.	36 Se si rovina un uomo nel suo giudizio, il Signore non lo sa? MEM.
37 Who commands so that it comes to pass, except the Lord ordains it;	37 Chi è colui che dice che avvenga una cosa senza il comando del Signore? MEM.
38 Except it proceeds from the mouth of the Most High, whether the thing be good or bad!	38 Non è dalla bocca dell'Altissimo che verranno i beni e i mali? MEM.
39 Why should any living man complain, any mortal, in the face of his sins?	39 Che ha da lamentarsi l'uomo che vive, l'uomo, (del castigo) dei suoi peccati? NUN.
40 Let us search and examine our ways that we may return to the LORD!	40 Esaminiamo la nostra condotta, ricerchiamola, e torniamo al Signore. NUN.
41 Let us reach out our hearts toward God in heaven!	41 Colle mani inalziamo i nostri cuori al Signore nei cieli. NUN.
42 We have sinned and rebelled; you have not forgiven us.	42 Noi abbiamo agito iniquamente, abbiamo provocato a sdegno, per questo tu sei stato inesorabile. SAMEC.
43 You veiled yourself in wrath and pursued us, you slew us and took no pity;	43 Ti sei avvolto nell'ira, ci hai percossi, hai sterminato senza risparmiare. SAMEC.
44 You wrapped yourself in a cloud which prayer could not pierce.	44 Ti sei posto davanti una nube, perchè non passi la preghiera. SAMEC.
45 You have made us offscourings and refuse among the nations.	45 Mi hai reso la spazzatura, il rifiuto in mezzo alle nazioni. FE.
46 All our enemies have opened their mouths against us;	46 Hanno spalancata sopra di noi la loro bocca tutti i nostri nemici. FE.
47 Terror and the pit have been our lot, desolation and destruction;	47 Per noi spavento e laccio, profezia e rovina. FE.
48 My eyes run with streams of water over the downfall of the daughter of my people.	48 Gli occhi miei spargono (lacrime) a torrenti sopra la rovina della figlia del mio popolo. AIN.
49 My eyes flow without ceasing, there is no respite,	49 L'occhio mio è afflitto e non ha pace, non avendo riposo. AIN.
50 Till the LORD from heaven looks down and sees.	50 Fino a che il Signore non volga lo sguardo e non rimiri dal cielo. AIN.
51 My eyes torment my soul at the sight of all the daughters of my city.	51 Il mio occhio ha rubato l'anima mia a causa di tutte le figlie della mia città. SADE.
52 Those who were my enemies without cause hunted me down like a bird;	52 Mi han preso alla caccia come un uccello quelli che senza motivo son miei nemici; SADE.
53 They struck me down alive in the pit, and sealed me in with a stone.	53 Mi han fatto precipitare nella fossa ed hanno posta sopra di me la pietra. SADE.
54 The waters flowed over my head, and I said, "I am lost!"	54 Le acque mi han coperto fin sopra il capo, ed io ho detto: « Son perduto! » COF.
55 I called upon your name, O LORD, from the bottom of the pit;	55 Ho invocato il tuo nome, o Signore, dal più profondo della fossa. COF.
56 You heard me call, "Let not your ear be deaf to my cry for help!"	56 Tu hai sentita la mia voce, non chiuder le orecchie ai miei singulti, alle mie grida. COF.
57 You came to my aid when I called to you; you said, "Have no fear!"	57 Tu ti avvicinasti nel giorno in cui t'invocai, dicesti: « Non temere ». RES.
58 You defended me in mortal danger, you redeemed my life.	58 Giudicasti in favore dell'anima mia, o salvatore della mia vita. RES.
59 You see, O LORD, how I am wronged; do me justice!	59 Tu hai veduto, o Signore, la loro iniquità contro di me, rendimi giustizia. RES.
60 You see all their vindictiveness, all their plots against me.	60 Tu hai veduti tutti i loro furori, tutte le loro trame contro di me. SIN.
61 You hear their insults, O LORD, (all their plots against me),	61 Tu hai sentito i loro oltraggi, o Signore, tutte le loro trame contro di me. SIN.
62 The whispered murmurings of my foes, against me all the day;	62 E le parole dei miei avversari e quello che meditano contro di me tutto il giorno. SIN.
63 Whether they sit or stand, see, I am their taunt song.	63 Quando siedono, quando si alzano, guarda, io sono la loro canzone. TAU.
64 Requite them as they deserve, O LORD, according to their deeds;	64 Rendi loro il contraccambio, o Signore, secondo le opere delle loro mani. TAU.
65 Give them hardness of heart, as your curse upon them;	65 Poni loro lo scudo del cuore, il tuo affanno. TAU.
66 Pursue them in wrath and destroy them from under your heavens!	66 Perseguitali nel tuo furore, sterminali di sotto ai cieli, o Signore.
