Proverbs 3

1 My son, forget not my teaching, keep in mind my commands;	1 Figlio mio, non dimenticare il mio insegnamento e il tuo cuore custodisca i miei precetti,
2 For many days, and years of life, and peace, will they bring you.	2 perché lunghi giorni e anni di vita e pace ti porteranno.
3 Let not kindness and fidelity leave you; bind them around your neck;	3 Bontà e fedeltà non ti abbandonino; lègale intorno al tuo collo, scrivile sulla tavola del tuo cuore,
4 Then will you win favor and good esteem before God and man.	4 e otterrai favore e buon successo agli occhi di Dio e degli uomini.
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, on your own intelligence rely not;	5 Confida nel Signore con tutto il cuore e non appoggiarti sulla tua intelligenza;
6 In all your ways be mindful of him, and he will make straight your paths.	6 in tutti i tuoi passi pensa a lui ed egli appianerà i tuoi sentieri.
7 Be not wise in your own eyes, fear the LORD and turn away from evil;	7 Non credere di essere saggio, temi il Signore e sta' lontano dal male.
8 This will mean health for your flesh and vigor for your bones.	8 Salute sarà per il tuo corpo e un refrigerio per le tue ossa.
9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with first fruits of all your produce;	9 Onora il Signore con i tuoi averi e con le primizie di tutti i tuoi raccolti;
10 Then will your barns be filled with grain, with new wine your vats will overflow.	10 i tuoi granai si riempiranno di grano e i tuoi tini traboccheranno di mosto.
11 The discipline of the LORD, my son, disdain not; spurn not his reproof;	11 Figlio mio, non disprezzare l'istruzione del Signore e non aver a noia la sua esortazione,
12 For whom the LORD loves he reproves, and he chastises the son he favors.	12 perché il Signore corregge chi ama, come un padre il figlio prediletto.
13 Happy the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding!	13 Beato l'uomo che ha trovato la sapienza e il mortale che ha acquistato la prudenza,
14 For her profit is better than profit in silver, and better than gold is her revenue;	14 perché il suo possesso è preferibile a quello dell'argento e il suo provento a quello dell'oro.
15 She is more precious than corals, and none of your choice possessions can compare with her.	15 Essa è più preziosa delle perle e neppure l'oggetto più caro la uguaglia.
16 Long life is in her right hand, in her left are riches and honor;	16 Lunghi giorni sono nella sua destra e nella sua sinistra ricchezza e onore;
17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace;	17 le sue vie sono vie deliziose e tutti i suoi sentieri conducono al benessere.
18 She is a tree of life to those who grasp her, and he is happy who holds her fast.	18 È un albero di vita per chi ad essa s'attiene e chi ad essa si stringe è beato.
19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth, established the heavens by understanding;	19 Il Signore ha fondato la terra con la sapienza, ha consolidato i cieli con intelligenza;
20 By his knowledge the depths break open, and the clouds drop down dew.	20 dalla sua scienza sono stati aperti gli abissi e le nubi stillano rugiada.
21 My son, let not these slip out of your sight: keep advice and counsel in view;	21 Figlio mio, conserva il consiglio e la riflessione, né si allontanino mai dai tuoi occhi:
22 So will they be life to your soul, and an adornment for your neck.	22 saranno vita per te e grazia per il tuo collo.
23 Then you may securely go your way; your foot will never stumble;	23 Allora camminerai sicuro per la tua strada e il tuo piede non inciamperà.
24 When you lie down, you need not be afraid, when you rest, your sleep will be sweet.	24 Se ti coricherai, non avrai da temere; se ti coricherai, il tuo sonno sarà dolce.
25 Be not afraid of sudden terror, of the ruin of the wicked when it comes;	25 Non temerai per uno spavento improvviso, né per la rovina degli empi quando verrà,
26 For the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from the snare.	26 perché il Signore sarà la tua sicurezza, preserverà il tuo piede dal laccio.
27 Refuse no one the good on which he has a claim when it is in your power to do it for him.	27 Non negare un beneficio a chi ne ha bisogno, se è in tuo potere il farlo.
28 Say not to your neighbor, "Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give," when you can give at once.	28 Non dire al tuo prossimo: "Va', ripassa, te lo darò domani", se tu hai ciò che ti chiede.
29 Plot no evil against your neighbor, against him who lives at peace with you.	29 Non tramare il male contro il tuo prossimo mentre egli dimora fiducioso presso di te.
30 Quarrel not with a man without cause, with one who has done you no harm.	30 Non litigare senza motivo con nessuno, se non ti ha fatto nulla di male.
31 Envy not the lawless man and choose none of his ways:	31 Non invidiare l'uomo violento e non imitare affatto la sua condotta,
32 To the LORD the perverse man is an abomination, but with the upright is his friendship.	32 perché il Signore ha in abominio il malvagio, mentre la sua amicizia è per i giusti.
33 The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked, but the dwelling of the just he blesses;	33 La maledizione del Signore è sulla casa del malvagio, mentre egli benedice la dimora dei giusti.
34 When he is dealing with the arrogant, he is stern, but to the humble he shows kindness.	34 Dei beffardi egli si fa beffe e agli umili concede la grazia.
35 Honor is the possession of wise men, but fools inherit shame.	35 I saggi possiederanno onore ma gli stolti riceveranno ignominia.
