NEW AMERICAN BIBLE | NOVA VULGATA |
---|---|
My son, if you receive my words and treasure my commands, | 1 Fili mi, si susceperis sermones meos et mandata mea absconderis penes te, |
Turning your ear to wisdom, inclining your heart to understanding; | 2 intendens ad sapientiam aurem tuam, inclinans cor tuum ad cognoscendam prudentiam; |
Yes, if you call to intelligence, and to understanding raise your voice; | 3 si enim sapientiam invocaveris et dederis vocem tuam prudentiae, |
If you seek her like silver, and like hidden treasures search her out: | 4 si quaesieris eam quasi pecuniam et sicut thesauros conquisieris illam, |
Then will you understand the fear of the LORD; the knowledge of God you will find; | 5 tunc intelleges timorem Domini et scientiam Dei invenies. |
For the LORD gives wisdom, from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; | 6 Quia Dominus dat sapientiam, et ex ore eius scientia et prudentia. |
He has counsel in store for the upright, he is the shield of those who walk honestly, | 7 Thesaurizabit rectis sollertiam et clipeus erit gradientibus simpliciter |
Guarding the paths of justice, protecting the way of his pious ones. | 8 servans semitas iustitiae et vias sanctorum custodiens. |
Then you will understand rectitude and justice, honesty, every good path; | 9 Tunc intelleges iustitiam et iudicium et aequitatem et omnem semitam bonam, |
For wisdom will enter your heart, knowledge will please your soul, | 10 quia intrabit sapientia cor tuum, et scientia animae tuae placebit. |
Discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you; | 11 Consilium custodiet te, et prudentia servabit te, |
Saving you from the way of evil men, from men of perverse speech, | 12 ut eruaris a via mala et ab homine, qui perversa loquitur; |
Who leave the straight paths to walk in the way of darkness, | 13 qui relinquunt iter rectum, ut ambulent per vias tenebrosas; |
Who delight in doing evil, rejoice in perversity; | 14 qui laetantur, cum malefecerint, et exsultant in rebus pessimis: |
Whose ways are crooked, and devious their paths; | 15 quorum viae perversae sunt, et pravi gressus eorum. |
Saving you from the wife of another, from the adulteress with her smooth words, | 16 Ut eruaris a muliere aliena et ab extranea, quae mollit sermones suos |
Who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the pact with her God; | 17 et relinquit ducem pubertatis suae et pacti Dei sui oblita est. |
For her path sinks down to death, and her footsteps lead to the shades; | 18 Inclinata est enim ad mortem domus eius, et ad inferos semitae ipsius; |
None who enter thereon come back again, or gain the paths of life. | 19 omnes, qui ingrediuntur ad eam, non revertentur nec apprehendent semitas vitae. |
Thus you may walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the just. | 20 Ut ambules in via bonorum et calles iustorum custodias: |
For the upright will dwell in the land, the honest will remain in it; | 21 qui enim recti sunt, habitabunt in terra, et simplices permanebunt in ea; |
But the wicked will be cut off from the land, the faithless will be rooted out of it. | 22 impii vero de terra perdentur, et, qui inique agunt, auferentur ex ea. |
