Proverbs 2

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	JERUSALEM
1 My son, if you receive my words and treasure my commands,	1 Mon fils, si tu accueilles mes paroles, si tu conserves à part toi mes préceptes,
2 Turning your ear to wisdom, inclining your heart to understanding;	2 rendant tes oreilles attentives à la sagesse, inclinant ton coeur vers l'intelligence,
3 Yes, if you call to intelligence, and to understanding raise your voice;	3 oui, si tu fais appel à l'entendement, si tu réclames l'intelligence,
4 If you seek her like silver, and like hidden treasures search her out:	4 si tu la recherches comme l'argent, si tu la creuses comme un chercheur de trésor,
5 Then will you understand the fear of the LORD; the knowledge of God you will find;	5 alors tu comprendras la crainte de Yahvé, tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.
6 For the LORD gives wisdom, from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;	6 Car c'est Yahvé qui donne la sagesse, de sa bouche sortent le savoir et l'intelligence.
7 He has counsel in store for the upright, he is the shield of those who walk honestly,	7 Il réserve aux hommes droits son conseil, il est le bouclier de ceux qui pratiquent l'honnêteté;
8 Guarding the paths of justice, protecting the way of his pious ones.	8 il monte la garde aux chemins de l'équité, il veille sur la voie de ses fidèles.
9 Then you will understand rectitude and justice, honesty, every good path;	9 Alors tu comprendras justice, équité et droiture, toutes les pistes du bonheur.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart, knowledge will please your soul,	10 Quand la sagesse entrera dans ton coeur, que le savoir fera les délices de ton âme,
11 Discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you;	11 la prudence veillera sur toi, l'intelligence te gardera
12 Saving you from the way of evil men, from men of perverse speech,	12 pour t'éloigner de la voie mauvaise, de l'homme aux propos pervers,
13 Who leave the straight paths to walk in the way of darkness,	13 de ceux qui délaissent les droits sentiers et vont courir par des voies ténébreuses;
14 Who delight in doing evil, rejoice in perversity;	14 ils trouvent leur joie à faire le mal, ils se complaisent dans la perversité;
15 Whose ways are crooked, and devious their paths;	15 leurs sentiers sont tortueux, leurs pistes sont obliques.
16 Saving you from the wife of another, from the adulteress with her smooth words,	16 Pour te garder aussi de la femme étrangère, de l'inconnue aux paroles enjôleuses;
17 Who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the pact with her God;	17 elle a abandonné l'ami de sa jeunesse, elle a oublié l'alliance de son Dieu;
18 For her path sinks down to death, and her footsteps lead to the shades;	18 sa maison penche vers la mort, ses pistes conduisent vers les ombres.
19 None who enter thereon come back again, or gain the paths of life.	19 De ceux qui vont à elle, pas un ne revient, ils ne rejoignent plus les sentiers de la vie.
20 Thus you may walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the just.	20 Ainsi chemineras-tu dans la voie des gens de bien, garderas-tu le sentier des justes.
21 For the upright will dwell in the land, the honest will remain in it;	21 Car les hommes droits habiteront le pays, les gens honnêtes y demeureront,
22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land, the faithless will be rooted out of it.	22 mais les méchants seront retranchés du pays, les traîtres en seront arrachés.
