NEW AMERICAN BIBLELXX
There is indeed a mine for silver, and a place for gold which men refine.1 εστιν γαρ αργυριω τοπος οθεν γινεται τοπος δε χρυσιω οθεν διηθειται
Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is melted out of stone.2 σιδηρος μεν γαρ εκ γης γινεται χαλκος δε ισα λιθω λατομειται
He has set a boundary for the darkness; to the farthest confines he penetrates.3 ταξιν εθετο σκοτει και παν περας αυτος εξακριβαζεται λιθος σκοτια και σκια θανατου
διακοπη χειμαρρου απο κονιας οι δε επιλανθανομενοι οδον δικαιαν ησθενησαν εκ βροτων
The earth, though out of it comes forth bread, is in fiery upheaval underneath.5 γη εξ αυτης εξελευσεται αρτος υποκατω αυτης εστραφη ωσει πυρ
Its stones are the source of sapphires, and there is gold in its dust.6 τοπος σαπφειρου οι λιθοι αυτης και χωμα χρυσιον αυτω
The path to it no bird of prey knows, nor has the hawk's eye seen that path.7 τριβος ουκ εγνω αυτην πετεινον και ου παρεβλεψεν αυτην οφθαλμος γυπος
The proud beasts have not trodden it, nor has the lion gone that way.8 ουκ επατησαν αυτην υιοι αλαζονων ου παρηλθεν επ' αυτης λεων
He sets his hand to the flinty rock, and overturns the mountains at their foundations.9 εν ακροτομω εξετεινεν χειρα αυτου κατεστρεψεν δε εκ ριζων ορη
He splits channels in the rocks; his eyes behold all that is precious.10 δινας δε ποταμων ερρηξεν παν δε εντιμον ειδεν μου ο οφθαλμος
He probes the wellsprings of the streams, and brings hidden things to light.11 βαθη δε ποταμων ανεκαλυψεν εδειξεν δε εαυτου δυναμιν εις φως
But whence can wisdom be obtained, and where is the place of understanding?12 η δε σοφια ποθεν ευρεθη ποιος δε τοπος εστιν της επιστημης
Man knows nothing to equal it, nor is it to be had in the land of the living.13 ουκ οιδεν βροτος οδον αυτης ουδε μη ευρεθη εν ανθρωποις
The abyss declares, "It is not in me"; and the sea says, "I have it not."14 αβυσσος ειπεν ουκ εστιν εν εμοι και θαλασσα ειπεν ουκ εστιν μετ' εμου
Solid gold cannot purchase it, nor can its price be paid with silver.15 ου δωσει συγκλεισμον αντ' αυτης και ου σταθησεται αργυριον ανταλλαγμα αυτης
It cannot be bought with gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx or the sapphire.16 και ου συμβασταχθησεται χρυσιω ωφιρ εν ονυχι τιμιω και σαπφειρω
Gold or crystal cannot equal it, nor can golden vessels reach its worth.17 ουκ ισωθησεται αυτη χρυσιον και υαλος και το αλλαγμα αυτης σκευη χρυσα
Neither coral nor jasper should be thought of; it surpasses pearls and18 μετεωρα και γαβις ου μνησθησεται και ελκυσον σοφιαν υπερ τα εσωτατα
Arabian topaz.19 ουκ ισωθησεται αυτη τοπαζιον αιθιοπιας χρυσιω καθαρω ου συμβασταχθησεται
Whence, then, comes wisdom, and where is the place of understanding?20 η δε σοφια ποθεν ευρεθη ποιος δε τοπος εστιν της συνεσεως
It is hid from the eyes of any beast; from the birds of the air it is concealed.21 λεληθεν παντα ανθρωπον και απο πετεινων του ουρανου εκρυβη
Abaddon and Death say, "Only by rumor have we heard of it."22 η απωλεια και ο θανατος ειπαν ακηκοαμεν δε αυτης το κλεος
God knows the way to it; it is he who is familiar with its place.23 ο θεος ευ συνεστησεν αυτης την οδον αυτος δε οιδεν τον τοπον αυτης
For he beholds the ends of the earth and sees all that is under the heavens.24 αυτος γαρ την υπ' ουρανον πασαν εφορα ειδως τα εν τη γη παντα α εποιησεν
He has weighed out the wind, and fixed the scope of the waters;25 ανεμων σταθμον υδατος τε μετρα
When he made rules for the rain and a path for the thunderbolts,26 οτε εποιησεν ουτως υετον ηριθμησεν και οδον εν τιναγματι φωνας
Then he saw wisdom and appraised it, gave it its setting, knew it through and through.27 τοτε ειδεν αυτην και εξηγησατο αυτην ετοιμασας εξιχνιασεν
And to man he said: Behold, the fear of the LORD is wisdom; and avoiding evil is understanding.28 ειπεν δε ανθρωπω ιδου η θεοσεβεια εστιν σοφια το δε απεχεσθαι απο κακων εστιν επιστημη
