1 Thessalonians 5

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.	1 Per quanto riguarda il tempo e l’ora, o fratelli, non avete bisogno che ve ne scriva.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.	2 Voi stessi sapete perfettamente che il giorno del Signore viene come un ladro nella notte.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.	3 E quando diranno: «Pace e sicurezza», allora improvvisamente la rovina si abbatterà su di essi come i dolori del parto sulla donna incinta, e non sfuggiranno.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.	4 Ma voi, o fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre, perché questo giorno vi sorprenda come un ladro;
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.	5 tutti voi siete partecipi della luce e partecipi del giorno. Non siamo della notte né delle tenebre;
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.	6 non dormiamo, pertanto, come gli altri, ma vegliamo e siamo sobri.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.	7 Perché quelli che dormono, è di notte che dormono, e quanti s’inebriano, è di notte che s’inebriano.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.	8 Noi che siamo del giorno, siamo sobri; rivestiti della fede e della carità come d’una corazza, e della speranza della salvezza come elmo.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 Dio infatti non ci ha destinati all’ira, ma all’acquisto della salvezza per il Signore nostro Gesù Cristo
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.	10 Egli è morto per noi, affinché, sia che vegliamo sia che dormiamo, viviamo sempre in unione con lui. i
11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.	11 Perciò, consolatevi scambievolmente ed edificatevi l’un l’altro, come già fate.
12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;	12 Vi preghiamo, o fratelli, di aver riguardo per quelli che lavorano per voi, che vi dirigono nel Signore e vi guidano con i loro avvisi;
13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.	13 tributate loro grande stima e una particolare carità, a motivo della loro funzione. Vivete in pace tra voi.
14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.	14 Vi esortiamo, o fratelli: correggete i disordinati, incoraggiate i pusillanimi, sostenete i deboli, siate pazienti con tutti.
15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.	15 Che ciascuno di voi si guardi dal rendere ad altri male per male; ma sempre perseguite l’amore tra voi e verso tutti.
16 Rejoice evermore.	16 Siate sempre lieti,
17 Pray without ceasing.	17 pregate incessantemente,
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.	18 rendete grazie per ogni cosa; chè questo è il volere di Dio per voi, nel Cristo Gesù.
19 Quench not the Spirit.	19 Non spegnete lo Spirito:
20 Despise not prophesyings.	20 non disprezzate le profezie.
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.	21 Esaminate ogni cosa e ritenete ciò che è buono:
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.	22 astenetevi da ogni specie di male.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Egli stesso, il Dio della pace, vi dia una completa santità; e che tutto il vostro essere, spirito, anima e corpo, si conservi irreprensibile per la venuta del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo.
24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.	24 Colui che vi chiama è fedele, è lui che lo farà.
25 Brethren, pray for us.	25 O fratelli, pregate anche per noi.
26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.	26 Salutate tutti i fratelli con un bacio santo.
27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.	27 Vi scongiuro, per il Signore, che sia data lettura di questa lettera a tutti i fratelli.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.	28 La grazia del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo sia con voi.
