Thessalonians 5

KING JAMES BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
Rejoice evermore.16 Always be joyful;
Pray without ceasing.17 pray constantly;
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
Quench not the Spirit.19 Do not stifle the Spirit
Despise not prophesyings.20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.21 test everything and hold on to what is good
Abstain from all appearance of evil.22 and shun every form of evil.
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
Brethren, pray for us.25 Pray for us, my brothers.
Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.2Th 1:1 Paul, Silvanus and Timothy, to the Church in Thessalonica which is in God our Father and the LordJesus Christ
