1 Thessalonians 5

1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.	1 In quanto al tempo e al momento, non avete bisogno, o fratelli, che ve ne scriviamo;
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.	2 perchè voi stessi sapete benissimo che il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte;
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.	3 quando infatti diranno: « pace e sicurezza » allora li sorprenderà improvvisamente la rovina, come le doglie del parto sorprendono la donna incinta, e non avranno scampo.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.	4 Ma voi, o fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre onde possa quel giorno sorprendervi come un ladro,
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.	5 voi tutti siete figli della luce, e figli del giorno. Noi non siamo della notte e dello tenebre,
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.	6 quindi cerchiamo non di dormire come gli altri, ma di vegliare, di essere sobrii;
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.	7 perchè quei che dormono, dormono di notte, e quelli che s'inebriano, s'inebriano di notte.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.	8 Ma noi, che siamo (figlioli) del giorno, dobbiamo essere sobrii e indossare la corazza della fede e della carità, e portare per elmo la speranza della salute;
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 perchè Dio non ci ha destinati all'ira, ma all'acquisto della salute pel Signore nostro Gesù Cristo,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.	10 il quale è morto per noi, affinchè, sia che vegliamo, sia che dormiamo, viviamo insieme con lui.
11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.	11 Perciò consolatevi a vicenda e siate di edificazione l'uno all'altro, come state facendo.
12 And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;	12 Vi preghiamo, o fratelli, diaver riguardo a coloro che fati­cano tra di voi, vi governano nelSignore e vi istruiscono:
13 And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.	13 abbiateli sommamente cari, a motivo delle loro fatiche, e vivete in pace con essi.
14 Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.	14 V'esortiamo ancora, o fratelli, a correggere gl'inquieti, a consolare i pusillanimi, a sostenere i deboli, ad esser pazienti con tutti.
15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.	15 Badate che nessuno renda ad un altro male per male; ma cercate sempre di far del bene tra di voi e verso di tutti.
16 Rejoice evermore.	16 Siate sempre allegri.
17 Pray without ceasing.	17 Non cessate mai di pregare.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.	18 In ogni cosa rendete grazie, perchè tale è la volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesù riguardo a tutti voi.
19 Quench not the Spirit.	19 Non spegnete lo Spirito.
20 Despise not prophesyings.	20 Non disprezzate le profezie;
21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.	21 ma esaminate tutto e ritenete il bene.
22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.	22 Guardatevi da ogni apparenza di male.
23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Lo stesso Dio della pace vi santifichi completamente, in modo che tutto il vostro spirito e anima e il corpo si conservino irreprensibili per quando verrà il Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.
24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.	24 Chi vi chiama è fedele e farà anche questo.
25 Brethren, pray for us.	25 Fratelli, pregate per noi.
26 Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.	26 Salutate tutti i fratelli col bacio santo.
27 I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.	27 Vi scongiuro pel Signore che questa lettera sia letta a tutti i santi fratelli.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.	28 La grazia del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo sia con voi. Così sia.
