KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.1 Concerning times and seasons, brothers, you have no need for anything to be written to you.
For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief at night.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.3 When people are saying, "Peace and security," then sudden disaster comes upon them, like labor pains upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.4 But you, brothers, are not in darkness, for that day to overtake you like a thief.
Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.5 For all of you are children of the light and children of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness.
Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.6 Therefore, let us not sleep as the rest do, but let us stay alert and sober.
For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.7 Those who sleep go to sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night.
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.8 But since we are of the day, let us be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love and the helmet that is hope for salvation.
For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,9 For God did not destine us for wrath, but to gain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we may live together with him.
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.11 Therefore, encourage one another and build one another up, as indeed you do.
And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;12 We ask you, brothers, to respect those who are laboring among you and who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you,
And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.13 and to show esteem for them with special love on account of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.
Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.14 We urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, cheer the fainthearted, support the weak, be patient with all.
See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.15 See that no one returns evil for evil; rather, always seek what is good (both) for each other and for all.
Rejoice evermore.16 Rejoice always.
Pray without ceasing.17 Pray without ceasing.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.18 In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.
Quench not the Spirit.19 Do not quench the Spirit.
Despise not prophesyings.20 Do not despise prophetic utterances.
Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.21 Test everything; retain what is good.
Abstain from all appearance of evil.22 Refrain from every kind of evil.
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.23 May the God of peace himself make you perfectly holy and may you entirely, spirit, soul, and body, be preserved blameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will also accomplish it.
Brethren, pray for us.25 Brothers, pray for us (too).
Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.27 I adjure you by the Lord that this letter be read to all the brothers.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
