Ephesians 5

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;	1 Soyez donc les imitateurs de Dieu, comme des enfants bien-aimés,
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.	2 et marchez dans l'amour, comme le Christ, qui nous a aussi aimés, et qui s'est livré lui-même pour nous à Dieu, comme une oblation et un sacrifice (une hostie) d'agréable odeur.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;	3 Que la fornication, et toute impureté, ou l'avarice ne soient pas même nommées parmi vous, comme il convient à des saints ;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.	4 non plus que ce qui est déshonnête, les propos insensés, les paroles bouffonnes, toutes choses qui sont malséantes ; qu'on entende plutôt des actions de grâces.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.	5 Car, sachez-le bien, aucun fornicateur, aucun impudique, aucun avare, ce qui est une idolâtrie, n'a d'héritage dans le royaume du Christ et de Dieu.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.	6 Que personne ne vous séduise par de vains discours ; car c'est à cause de ces choses que la colère de Dieu vient sur les hommes rebelles (fils de la défiance, note).
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.	7 N'ayez donc aucune part avec eux.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:	8 Car vous étiez autrefois ténèbres ; mais maintenant vous êtes lumière dans le Seigneur. Marchez comme des enfants de lumière ;
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)	9 car le fruit de la lumière consiste en toute sorte de bonté, de justice et de vérité.
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.	10 Examinez ce qui est agréable à Dieu,
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.	11 et ne prenez pas part aux œuvres infructueuses des ténèbres, mais plutôt condamnez-les.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.	12 Car ce qu'ils pratiquent en secret, on a honte même de le dire (seulement).
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.	13 Mais tout ce qui est condamné est manifesté par la lumière ; car tout ce qui est manifesté est lumière.
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.	14 C'est pourquoi il est (l'Ecriture, note) dit : Lève-toi, toi qui dors, relève-toi d'entre les morts, et le Christ t'illuminera.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,	15 Prenez donc garde, mes frères, de vous conduire avec circonspection ; non comme des insensés,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.	16 mais comme des sages ; rachetant le temps, parce que les jours sont mauvais.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.	17 C'est pourquoi ne devenez pas inconsidérés, mais comprenez quelle est la volonté de Dieu.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;	18 Et ne vous enivrez pas de vin, c'est de la débauche (qui renferme la luxure) ; mais remplissez-vous du Saint-Esprit,
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;	19 vous entretenant par des psaumes, et des hymnes, et des cantiques spirituels, chantant et psalmodiant dans (du fond de) vos cœurs au Seigneur ;
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;	20 rendant grâces sans cesse pour toutes choses à Dieu le Père, au nom de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ ;
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.	21 vous soumettant les uns aux autres dans la crainte du Christ.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.	22 Que les femmes soient soumises à leurs maris, comme au Seigneur ;
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.	23 car le mari (l'homme) est le chef de la femme, comme le Christ est le chef de l'Eglise, qui est son corps, et dont il est le Sauveur.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.	24 Or, de même que l'Eglise est soumise au Christ, de même aussi les femmes doivent être soumises à leurs maris en toutes choses.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;	25 Vous, maris, aimez vos femmes, comme le Christ aussi a aimé l'Eglise, et s'est livré lui-même pour elle,
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,	26 afin de la sanctifier, après l'avoir purifiée dans le baptême d'eau par la parole de vie,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.	27 pour se la présenter lui-même comme une Eglise glorieuse, n'ayant ni tache, ni ride, ni rien de semblable, mais sainte et immaculée.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.	28 De même les maris aussi doivent aimer leurs femmes comme leurs propres corps. Celui qui aime sa femme s'aime lui-même.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:	29 Car jamais personne n'a haï sa propre chair ; mais il la nourrit et la soigne, comme le Christ le fait pour l'Eglise,
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.	30 parce que nous sommes les membres de son corps, formés de sa chair et de ses os.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.	31 C'est pourquoi l'homme abandonnera son père et sa mère, et s'attachera à sa femme, et les deux seront une seule chair.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.	32 Ce mystère (sacrement, note) est grand : Je dis cela par rapport au Christ et à l'Eglise.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.	33 Ainsi, que chacun de vous individuellement aime sa femme comme lui-même, et que la femme respecte (craigne) son mari.
