Ephesians 5

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;	1 Siate adunque imitatori di Dio, come figliuoli diletti.
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.	2 E camminate in carità, siccome ancora Cristo ci ha amati, e ha dato sè stesso per noi, in offerta e sacrificio a Dio, in odor soave
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;	3 E come si conviene a santi, fornicazione, e niuna immondizia, ed avarizia, non sia pur nominata fra voi;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.	4 nè disonestà, nè stolto parlare, o buffoneria, le quali cose non si convengono; ma più tosto, ringraziamento.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.	5 Poichè voi sapete questo: che niun fornicatore, nè immondo, nè avaro, il quale è idolatra, ha eredità nel regno di Cristo, e di Dio.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.	6 Niuno vi seduca con vani ragionamenti; perciocchè per queste cose vien l’ira di Dio, sopra i figliuoli della disubbidienza.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.	7 Non siate adunque loro compagni.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:	8 Perciocchè già eravate tenebre, ma ora siete luce nel Signore; camminate come figliuoli di luce
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)	9 poichè il frutto dello Spirito è in ogni bontà, e giustizia, e verità,
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.	10 provando ciò che è accettevole al Signore.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.	11 E non partecipate le opere infruttuose delle tenebre, anzi più tosto ancora riprendetele.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.	12 Perciocchè egli è disonesto pur di dire le cose che si fanno da coloro in occulto.
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.	13 Ma tutte le cose, che sono condannate sono manifestate dalla luce; perciocchè tutto ciò che è manifestato è luce.
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.	14 Perciò dice: Risvegliati, tu che dormi, e risorgi da’ morti, e Cristo ti risplenderà.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,	15 Riguardate adunque come voi camminate con diligente circospezione; non come stolti, ma come savi;
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.	16 ricomperando il tempo, perciocchè i giorni sono malvagi.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.	17 Perciocchè, non siate disavveduti, ma intendenti qual sia la volontà del Signore.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;	18 E non v’inebbriate di vino, nel quale vi è dissoluzione; ma siate ripieni dello Spirito;
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;	19 parlando a voi stessi con salmi, ed inni, e canzoni spirituali, cantando, e salmeggiando col cuor vostro al Signore.
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;	20 Rendendo del continuo grazie d’ogni cosa a Dio e Padre, nel nome del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.	21 Sottoponendovi gli uni agli altri nel timor di Cristo.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.	22 MOGLI, siate soggette a’ vostri mariti, come al Signore.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.	23 Poichè il marito è capo della donna, siccome ancora Cristo è capo della Chiesa, ed egli stesso è Salvatore del corpo.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.	24 Ma altresì, come la Chiesa è soggetta a Cristo, così le mogli debbono esser soggette a’ lor mariti in ogni cosa.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;	25 Mariti, amate le vostre mogli, siccome ancora Cristo ha amata la Chiesa, e ha dato sè stesso per lei;
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,	26 acciocchè, avendola purgata col lavacro dell’acqua, la santificasse per la parola;
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.	27 per farla comparire davanti a sè, gloriosa, non avendo macchia, nè crespa, nè cosa alcuna tale; ma santa ed irreprensibile.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.	28 Così debbono i mariti amare le loro mogli, come i lor propri corpi: chi ama la sua moglie ama sè stesso.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:	29 Perciocchè niuno giammai ebbe in odio la sua carne, anzi la nudrisce, e la cura teneramente, siccome ancora il Signore la Chiesa.
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.	30 Poichè noi siamo membra del suo corpo, della sua carne, e delle sue ossa.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.	31 Perciò, l’uomo lascerà suo padre, e sua madre, e si congiungerà con la sua moglie, e i due diverranno una stessa carne.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.	32 Questo mistero è grande; or io dico, a riguardo di Cristo, e della Chiesa.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.	33 Ma ciascun di voi così ami la sua moglie, come sè stesso; ed altresì la moglie riverisca il marito
