Ephesians 5

1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;	1 Siate dunque imitatori di Dio come figlioli diletti,
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.	2 e vivete nell'amore, come Cristo che ci ha amati e ha dato per noi se stesso a Dio in olocausto come ostia di soave odore.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;	3 La fornicazione, l'impurità di qualsiasi sorta, l'avarizia non si senta neppur nominare tra voi, come a santi si conviene.
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.	4 Non oscenità, non discorsi sciocchi, non buffonerie, tutte cose indecenti; ma piuttosto il rendimento di grazie.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.	5 Perché, sappiatelo bene, nessuno che sia fornicatore, e impudico, o avaro (che è un idolatra) ha l'eredità nel regno di Cristo e di Dio.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.	6 Nessuno vi seduca con vani discorsi, perchè a causa di questi vien l'ira di Dio sugli increduli.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.	7 Dunque non vi associate con loro.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:	8 Una volta eravate tenebre, ma ora siete luce nel Signore. Vivete come figli della luce.
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)	9 Or frutto della luce è tutto ciò che è buono, giusto e vero.
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.	10 Esaminate ciò che piace al Signore
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.	11 e non vogliate prendere parte alle opere infruttuose delle tenebre, anzi condannatele;
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.	12 perchè le cose da essi fatte in segreto sono vergognose anche a dirsi,
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.	13 ma tutte queste cose, che sono da riprovarsi, sono messe in chiaro dalla luce, essendo luce tutto ci che si manifesta.
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.	14 Per questo è detto: Alzati tu che dormi, risorgi dai morti, e Cristo t'illuminerà.
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,	15 Guardate adunque, fratelli, di condurvi cautamente: non da stolti,
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.	16 ma da prudenti, riscattando il tempo, perchè i giorni sono cattivi;
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.	17 quindi non siate imprudenti, ma studiate bene quale sia la volontà di Dio.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;	18 E non vi ubriacate col vino, sorgente di lussuria, ma siate ripieni di Spirito Santo.
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;	19 Conversate tra di voi con salmi, inni e canti spirituali, cantando e salmeggiando di tutto cuore al Signore,
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;	20 ringraziando sempre Dio e Padre nel nome del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo per ogni cosa.
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.	21 Sottomettetevi gli uni agli altri nel timore di Cristo.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.	22 Le donne siano soggette ai loro mariti come al Signore,
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.	23 perché l'uomo è capo della donna, come Cristo è capo della Chiesa, egli salvatore del corpo di lei.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.	24 Or come la Chiesa è soggetta a Cristo, così le donne devono star soggette ai loro mariti in ogni cosa.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;	25 Voi, uomini, amate le vostre mogli come anche Cristo amò la Chiesa, dando se stesso per lei,
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,	26 per santificarla, purificandola col lavacro di acqua, mediante la parola di vita,
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.	27 affinchè la Chiesa gli potesse comparire davanti gloriosa, senza macchia, senza grinze, senza altre cose del genere, ma santa ed immacolata.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.	28 Così appunto i mariti devono amare le loro mogli, come i propri corpi; chi ama la sua moglie ama se stesso.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:	29 Or nessuno ebbe mai in odio la propria carne, anzi la nutre e la circonda di cure, come anche Cristo fa per la Chiesa,
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.	30 giacchè noi siamo membra del corpo di lui, della sua carne, delle sue ossa.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.	31 Per questo l'uomo abbandonerà il padre e la madre e starà unito alla sua moglie, e i due diverranno una stessa carne.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.	32 Questo sacramento è grande, io però parlo riguardo a Cristo ed alla Chiesa.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.	33 Ma ciascuno di voi in particolare ami la sua moglie come se stesso, e la moglie porti rispetto al marito.
