1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;	1 Imitez Dieu puisque vous êtes ses enfants bien-aimés.
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.	2 Que l’amour soit votre loi: voyez comme le Christ vous a aimés et s’est sacrifié pour nous, comme ces victimes dont l’odeur était agréable à Dieu.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;	3 Qu’on ne fasse même pas allusion chez vous à la liberté sexuelle, l’impureté, ou la soif d’argent, car cela n’est pas digne de vous: vous êtes des saints.
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.	4 Et de même les plaisanteries stupides ou de mauvais goût et le gros rire: vous n’êtes pas faits pour cela, mais pour l’action de grâces.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.	5 D’ailleurs vous savez que le licencieux, l’impur et celui qui aime l’argent - qui adore un faux dieu - n’ont pas leur place dans le royaume du Christ et de Dieu.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.	6 Ne vous laissez pas égarer par les fausses raisons. C’est cela qui attire la colère de Dieu sur les ennemis de la foi:
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.	7 ne partagez pas leur sort.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:	8 Autrefois vous étiez ténèbres, mais maintenant, dans le Seigneur, vous êtes lumière. Marchez comme des enfants de lumière
9 (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)	9 dans la bonté, la droiture et la vérité, car ce sont les fruits de la lumière.
10 Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.	10 Essayez de discerner ce qui plaît au Seigneur.
11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.	11 Ne vous rendez pas complices des œuvres de ténèbres, car on n’y gagne rien; dénoncez-les plutôt.
12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.	12 On a honte même de dire ce qu’ils font en cachette,
13 But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.	13 mais tout ce que la lumière a dénoncé vient au jour,
14 Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.	14 et ce qui est venu au jour devient lumière. Il est bien dit: Réveille-toi, toi qui dors, lève-toi d’entre les morts, que t’illumine la lumière du Christ!
15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,	15 Examinez donc avec soin votre conduite, soyez sérieux et non irréfléchis.
16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.	16 Essayez de tirer parti du moment présent, car ces jours ne sont pas favorables.
17 Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.	17 Donc, ne soyez pas irresponsables, mais cherchez à voir où est la volonté du Seigneur.
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;	18 Plus d’excès de vin, car cette ivresse mène à l’immoralité; c’est l’Esprit qui doit vous mettre en forme.
19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;	19 Communiquez entre vous avec des psaumes, des hymnes, des cantiques spirituels. Que le Seigneur entende le chant et la musique de vos cœurs.
20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;	20 Rendez grâces en tout temps et pour tout à Dieu le Père, par Jésus Christ notre Seigneur.
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.	21 Que la crainte du Christ inspire votre soumission aux autres.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.	22 C’est le cas des femmes: soumises à leurs maris comme au Seigneur.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.	23 Pour la femme, le mari est la tête, tout comme le Christ est la tête de l’Église, lui qui sauve le corps.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.	24 Aussi l’Église est soumise au Christ, et de même les femmes le seront à leur mari, sans réserve.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;	25 Vous, les maris, aimez vos femmes, tout comme le Christ a aimé l’Église et s’est sacrifié pour elle.
26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,	26 Et après l’avoir baignée dans l’eau et la Parole afin de la purifier, il l’a rendue sainte.
27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.	27 Car il voulait se donner lui-même une Église rayonnante, sans ride ni tache ou défaut: il la voulait sainte et sans reproche.
28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.	28 De même les maris doivent aimer leur femme comme leur propre corps: aimer sa femme, c’est s’aimer soi-même.
29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:	29 Personne ne veut de mal à son propre corps, on le nourrit, on en prend soin, comme le Christ le fait pour son Église -
30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.	30 et nous, nous sommes les membres de son corps.
31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.	31 Voilà comment l’homme laissera son père et sa mère pour s’attacher à sa femme, et les deux seront une seule chair.
32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.	32 Il s’agit là d’un grand mystère, car je le vois dans le Christ et l’Église.
33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.	33 Quant à vous, que chacun aime sa femme comme lui-même, et que la femme respecte son mari.
