Proverbs 14

1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.	1 A bölcs nő felépíti házát, a balga pedig a felépültet is lebontja kezével.
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.	2 Az igaz úton járó, istenfélő embert lenézi az, aki gyalázatos úton halad.
3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.	3 A balga szájában a kevélység vesszeje van, a bölcseket azonban ajkuk megóvja.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.	4 Ahol nincsen marha, üres a jászol, ahol sok a termés, ott nyilvánvaló az ökör ereje.
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.	5 Igazságszerető tanú nem hazudik, a hamis tanú azonban ontja a hazugságot.
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.	6 Az arcátlan keresi a bölcsességet, de meg nem találja, az okosnak azonban a tudás könnyű.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.	7 Lépj a balga ember elé, és nem ismeri fel az okos ajkat!
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.	8 A tapasztalt ember bölcsessége: vigyázni az útjára, a balgákat pedig bolondságuk tévútra vezeti.
9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.	9 Az ostoba csúfot űz a bűnből, az igazak között pedig kegyelem lakozik.
10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.	10 Amely szív ismeri saját bánatát, annak örömébe nem vegyül hivalkodás.
11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.	11 A gonoszok háza elpusztul, az igazak sátra pedig virul.
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.	12 Van út, amely az ember előtt helyesnek látszik, de a vége halálba vezet.
13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.	13 Móka közben is fájhat a szív, s az öröm vége búslakodás lehet.
14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.	14 Az esztelen jóllakik útjával, éppúgy a jámbor is azzal, amit cselekedett.
15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.	15 Az együgyű minden beszédnek hitelt ad, az élelmes azonban megfontolja lépteit. Az álnok fiú semmi jót nem várhat, az okos szolga tetteit azonban szerencse kíséri, és útja egyenes lesz.
16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.	16 A bölcs fél és kerüli a rosszat, a balga pedig nemtörődöm és elbizakodott.
17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.	17 A türelmetlen balgaságot művel, az ármánykodó pedig gyűlöletes.
18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.	18 Az együgyűeknek balgaság a birtokrészük, a tapasztaltak pedig bölcsességgel koronázzák magukat.
19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.	19 A gonoszok meghajolnak majd a jók előtt, s az istentelenek az igazak kapuja előtt.
20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.	20 A szegény még barátjának sem kell, a gazdagot ellenben sokan kedvelik.
21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.	21 Aki megveti szűkölködő társát, vétkezik, de boldog, aki a szegényen megkönyörül! Aki hisz az Úrban, szereti az irgalmasságot.
22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.	22 Akik gonoszt cselekszenek, tévelyegnek, az irgalom és igazság azonban jót terem.
23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.	23 Minden fáradságnak megvan az eredménye, de az üres szóbeszéd csak ínségre vezet.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.	24 A bölcsek koronája a gazdagságuk, a balgák koszorúja a bolondságuk.
25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.	25 A megbízható tanú életet ment, a csalárd pedig hazugságot kohol.
26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.	26 Az Úr félelmében van az erős bizodalma, és fiainak ő lesz a reménye.
27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.	27 Az Úr félelme élet forrása, amely halálos csapdától távol tart.
28 In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.	28 A király díszére válik, ha népe számos, a nép hiánya a fejedelem romlása.
29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.	29 Aki türtőzteti magát, annak nagy a belátása, aki pedig hirtelen, mutatja nagy balgaságát.
30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.	30 A nyugodt kedély a testnek is épség, a szenvedély azonban szú a csontban.
31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.	31 Aki elnyomja a szegényt, gyalázattal illeti annak Teremtőjét, de tiszteletben tartja őt, aki megszánja a szűkölködőt.
32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.	32 A bűnös elbukik gonoszságában, az igaz pedig még halálában is bizakodik.
33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.	33 Az okos szívében bölcsesség lakozik, és bármely tudatlant megtanít.
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.	34 Az erény magasra emeli a nemzetet, a bűn pedig szegényekké teszi a népeket.
35 The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.	35 Az okos szolga kedves a királynál, a haszontalan pedig haragját viseli.
