Proverbs 14

1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.	1 La sagesse construit la maison, la sottise la renverse de ses propres mains.
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.	2 Celui qui craint Yahvé prend le droit chemin, celui qui le méprise s’en éloigne.
3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.	3 Les paroles du sot le font remettre en place, les propos des sages seront leur protection.
4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.	4 Pas de bœufs: les greniers resteront vides; les rentrées sont à la mesure de la force des bêtes.
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.	5 Un témoin digne de foi dit la vérité, un faux témoin ment comme il respire.
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.	6 Le moqueur cherche la sagesse, mais en vain; l’homme réfléchi apprend vite.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.	7 Écarte-toi du sot; ce n’est pas de sa bouche que tu recevras la sagesse.
8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.	8 La sagesse de l’homme habile, c’est de savoir où il va; la folie des sots les égare.
9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.	9 Les sots se moquent du péché, mais Dieu favorise les hommes droits.
10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.	10 Le cœur connaît ses propres chagrins, et sa joie, nul autre ne pourra la partager.
11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.	11 La maison des méchants sera détruite, mais la tente des justes ne bougera pas.
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.	12 Tu en verras dont la route leur paraît droite, mais au bout du chemin c’est la mort.
13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.	13 Même au milieu du rire le cœur a ses peines, la joie se termine en chagrin.
14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.	14 Le dévoyé va se repaître de sa conduite, et de même l’homme de bien.
15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.	15 Le naïf croit tout ce qu’on dit, mais le prudent regarde où il met les pieds.
16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.	16 Le sage craint le mal et s’en détourne, le sot va de l’avant sans s’inquiéter.
17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.	17 Le coléreux fait des bêtises, l’homme réfléchi supporte.
18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.	18 Les naïfs n’acquièrent que la sottise, les habiles pourront être fiers de leur savoir.
19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.	19 Les méchants s’inclineront devant les bons, les pécheurs attendront devant la porte du juste.
20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.	20 Même à son compagnon le pauvre est insupportable, tandis que le riche a de nombreux amis.
21 He that despiseth his neighbour sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy is he.	21 Qui méprise son prochain commet un péché; heureux celui qui a pitié des malheureux.
22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.	22 Ne font-ils pas fausse route ceux qui complotent le mal? La bonté et la fidélité n’accompagnent-elles pas celui qui cherche le bien?
23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.	23 Toute peine a son profit, mais ce qui reste en paroles conduit au dénuement.
24 The crown of the wise is their riches: but the foolishness of fools is folly.	24 La richesse vient couronner les sages, mais le sot n’aura d’autre parure que sa bêtise.
25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.	25 Un témoin véridique sauve des vies, le rusé profère des mensonges.
26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.	26 Qui a la crainte de Yahvé possède un ferme appui, ses enfants pourront compter sur lui.
27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.	27 La crainte de Yahvé est source de vie, elle fait échapper aux pièges de la mort.
28 In the multitude of people is the king's honour: but in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.	28 Un peuple nombreux fait la gloire de son roi; si les sujets manquent, c’est la ruine du souverain.
29 He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.	29 Qui est lent à la colère fait preuve de bon sens, celui qui ne se domine pas étale sa folie.
30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.	30 La paix du cœur favorise la santé, mais la jalousie ronge les os.
31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.	31 Qui écrase le pauvre insulte son Créateur, qui a pitié des indigents lui rend hommage.
32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.	32 Le méchant est renversé par sa propre malice, mais jusque dans la mort le juste est assuré.
33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.	33 La sagesse habite au cœur des hommes de bon sens, la sottise se trouve parmi les insensés.
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.	34 Une nation grandit par la justice; le péché fait la honte des peuples.
35 The king's favour is toward a wise servant: but his wrath is against him that causeth shame.	35 Le serviteur avisé sera apprécié du roi, l’incapable aura droit à sa colère.
