1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.	1 A bölcs fiú öröme atyjának, a balga fiú pedig búbánata anyjának.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.	2 Igaztalan kincsek semmit sem érnek, a becsületesség ellenben megment a haláltól.
3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.	3 Nem engedi az Úr az igaz lelkét éhezni, de elveti a gonoszok kívánságát.
4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.	4 A lassú kéz szegénnyé tesz, a szorgosak keze azonban gazdagságot szerez. Aki hazugságra támaszkodik, szelet legeltet, és repdeső madarat kerget.
5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.	5 Okos az az ember, aki aratáskor gyűjt, de szégyent vall, aki nyáron alszik.
6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.	6 Az Úr áldása nyugszik az igaz fején, a gonoszok száját pedig gonoszság borítja.
7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.	7 Az igaz emlékezete áldott, a gonoszok neve pedig elmállik.
8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.	8 Aki bölcs szívű, befogadja a parancsot, a bolondot azonban saját szája sújtja.
9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.	9 Aki egyenesen jár, bizton jár, aki görbe utakon jár, azt bizony rajtakapják.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.	10 Aki szemével hunyorgat, fájdalmat okoz, aki azonban nyíltan dorgál, békességet szerez.
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.	11 Az igaz szája élet forrása, a gonoszok szája pedig erőszakot áraszt.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.	12 A gyűlölködés civódást szít, a szeretet pedig minden hibát befed.
13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.	13 Az értelmes ajkán bölcsességet találsz, ám vessző való az esztelen hátának!
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.	14 A bölcsek elrejtik tudásukat, az ostoba szája azonban közel van a szégyenvalláshoz.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.	15 Erős város a vagyon a gazdagnak, a szűkölködés pedig romlás a szegénynek.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.	16 Az igaz szerzeménye életre szolgál, a gonosz jövedelme pedig bűnre.
17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.	17 Az élet útján halad, aki megszívleli az intést, aki megveti a korholást, eltéved.
18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.	18 A hazug ajkak gyűlöletet takarnak, aki rágalmat szór, az ostoba.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.	19 Sok beszéd nem marad hiba nélkül, az az okos ember, aki féken tartja ajkát.
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.	20 Az igaz nyelve ezüst a javából, a gonoszok elméje pedig semmit sem ér!
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.	21 Az igazak ajkai sok embert tanítanak, a balgák pedig tönkremennek szívük oktalansága miatt.
22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.	22 Az Úr áldása gazdagságot szerez, és nem jár azzal együtt a nyomorúság.
23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.	23 A dőre a bűnözést nézi mulatságnak, az értelmes férfi pedig a bölcsességet.
24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.	24 A gonoszt utoléri, amitől retteg, az igazak pedig azt kapják, amire vágynak.
25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.	25 Mint az elvonuló fergeteg, tűnik el a bűnös, az igaz pedig szilárdan áll örökre.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.	26 Ami az ecet a fognak, a füst a szemnek, az a lusta azoknak, akik megbízzák valamivel.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.	27 Az Úr félelme megsokasítja a napokat, a gonoszok évei pedig megrövidülnek.
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.	28 Az igazak reménye boldogság, a gonoszok számítása pedig semmivé válik.
29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.	29 Az Úr útja erős vár a jámbornak, de romlás a gonosztevőknek.
30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.	30 Az igaz meg nem inog sohasem, a gonoszoknak pedig nincs a földön maradásuk.
31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.	31 Bölcsesség sarjad az igaz szájából, a gonoszok nyelve pedig tönkremegy.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.	32 Az igaznak ajka azt tudja, ami kedves, a gonosz szája pedig azt, ami romlott.
