1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.	1 Proverbes de Salomon: Un fils sage fait la joie de son père; un fils insensé fait le chagrin de sa mère.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.	2 Les trésors mal acquis ne profitent pas; une vie droite, par contre, délivre de la mort.
3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.	3 Yahvé ne veut pas que le juste souffre de la faim, mais il laisse les méchants insatisfaits.
4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.	4 La main paresseuse attire la pauvreté; la main diligente enrichit.
5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.	5 L’homme avisé moissonne quand c’est l’été; bien sot celui qui dort à la moisson.
6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.	6 Les bénédictions viendront sur la tête du juste, mais les cris des méchants seront étouffés.
7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.	7 On bénira la mémoire du juste, mais le nom des méchants tombera en pourriture.
8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.	8 L’homme au cœur sage accepte les conseils, alors que le prétentieux court à sa perte.
9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.	9 Qui marche avec intégrité marche en sécurité, mais qui prend des chemins tortueux sera vite démasqué.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.	10 Un clignement d’œil te prépare des ennuis; un reproche rétablira la paix.
11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.	11 La bouche de l’homme droit est une source de vie; celle des méchants dissimule la violence.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.	12 La haine fait surgir les querelles, l’amour excuse toutes les fautes.
13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.	13 La sagesse se trouve sur les lèvres de l’homme intelligent, on verra le bâton sur le dos de l’insensé.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.	14 Les sages font des réserves de savoir, la bouche du sot répand le malheur.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.	15 La fortune du riche lui fait un rempart, la pauvreté de l’indigent fait son malheur.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.	16 Les travaux de l’homme droit lui procurent la vie; le gain du méchant fera sa ruine.
17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.	17 Respecter l’avertissement, c’est un chemin de vie; qui néglige la réprimande se fourvoie.
18 He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.	18 Qui dissimule sa haine est un fourbe, qui fait courir la calomnie est un insensé.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.	19 Qui parle trop n’évitera pas le péché, l’homme sensé surveille ses paroles.
20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.	20 Le juste parle: c’est un argent de choix; les pensées du méchant: elles ne valent rien.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.	21 Beaucoup s’alimentent aux paroles du juste, tandis que les insensés meurent de leur propre sottise.
22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.	22 C’est la bénédiction de Yahvé qui enrichit; l’effort de l’homme n’y ajoute rien.
23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.	23 L’insensé se plaît à préparer le mal, de même l’homme avisé à cultiver la sagesse.
24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.	24 Ce que le méchant redoutait lui arrive; ce que le juste a souhaité lui est accordé.
25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.	25 Quand la tempête a passé, le méchant a disparu, mais le juste demeure à jamais.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.	26 Du vinaigre sur les dents, de la fumée dans les yeux, voilà bien ce qu’est le paresseux pour son patron.
27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.	27 La crainte de Yahvé te prolongera tes jours; les années du méchant seront abrégées.
28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.	28 Après avoir espéré, le juste connaîtra la joie, mais l’attente des méchants sera déçue.
29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.	29 Yahvé a prévu un refuge pour l’homme intègre, et la ruine pour ceux qui font le mal.
30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.	30 Le juste est ébranlé, mais non pour toujours, les méchants par contre n’occuperont pas le pays.
31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.	31 La sagesse sort de la bouche des justes; la langue menteuse sera arrachée.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.	32 La bonté se loge sur les lèvres du juste, et la corruption dans la bouche des méchants.
