1 ܘܒܢܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܐ̈ܦܕܢܐ ܒܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܘܒܢܐ ܗܘܐ ܕܘܟܬܐ ܠܩܒܘܬܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܡܐ̈ܢܝ ܡܫܟܢܐ1 After he had put up buildings for himself in the City of David, he prepared a place for the ark of Godand pitched a tent for it.
2 ܗܝܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܠܡܫܩܠ ܠܩܒܘܬܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܡܐ̈ܢܝ ܡܫܟܢܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܗܘܢ ܠܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܓܒܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܡܫܡܫܘ ܘܠܡܫܩܠ ܩܒܘܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܠܡܫܡܫܘܬܗ ܠܥܠܡ2 David then said, 'No one but the Levites should carry the ark of God, since Yahweh has chosen themto carry the ark of Yahweh and to minister to him for ever.'
3 ܘܟܢܫ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܟܠܗ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ ܠܡܣܩܘܬܗ̇ ܠܩܒܘܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܒܢܐ ܠܗ̇3 David then summoned al Israel to Jerusalem, to move the ark of Yahweh to the place which he hadprepared for it.
4 ܘܟܢܫ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܐܗܪܘܢ ܘܠܠܘ̈ܝܐ4 David also cal ed the sons of Aaron and the Levites together:
5 ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܘܠܒܢ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܩܗܬ ܠܐܘܪܝܠ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܠܐ̈ܚܘܗܝ ܡܐܐ ܘܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ5 of the sons of Kohath: Uriel the chief and his hundred and twenty kinsmen;
6 ܘܠܒܢܘ̈ܗܝ ܕܡܪܪܝ ܥܫܐܝܠ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܠܐ̈ܚܘܗܝ ܡܐܬܝܢ ܘܥܣܪ̈ܝܢ6 of the sons of Merari: Asaiah the chief and his two hundred and twenty kinsmen;
7 ܠܒ̈ܢܘܗܝ ܕܓܪܫܘܢ ܝܘܐܝܠ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܐܚ̈ܘܗܝ ܡܐܐ ܘܬܠܬܝܢ7 of the sons of Gershom: Joel the chief and his hundred and thirty kinsmen;
8 ܠܒ̈ܢܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܝܨܦܢ ܫܡܥܝܐ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܐܚ̈ܘܗܝ ܡܐܬܝܢ8 of the sons of Elizaphan: Shemaiah the chief and his two hundred kinsmen;
9 ܠܒ̈ܢܘܗܝ ܕܚܒܪܘܢ ܐܠܝܒ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܐ̈ܚܘܗܝ ܬܡܢܐܝܢ9 of the sons of Hebron: Eliel the chief and eighty kinsmen;
10 ܠܒ̈ܢܘܗܝ ܕܥܘܙܝܠ ܥܡܝܢܕܒ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܘܐܚ̈ܘܗܝ ܡܐܐ ܘܬܪ̈ܥܣܪ10 of the sons of Uzziel: Amminadab the chief and his hundred and twelve kinsmen.
11 ܘܩܪܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܨܕܘܩ ܟܗܢܐ ܘܠܐܒܝܬܪ ܘܠܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܘܠܐܘܪܝܠ ܘܠܠܥܣܐ ܘܠܐܘܝܠ ܘܠܥܫܝܐ ܘܠܫܥܝܐ ܘܠܐܘܪܝܠ ܘܠܥܡܝܢܕܒ11 David then sent for the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah,Eliel and Amminadab.
12 ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܪ̈ܫܝ ܐܒ̈ܗܬܐ ܕܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܐܬܩܕܫܘ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܘܐܚ̈ܝܟܘܢ ܕܬܣܩܘܢ ܠܩܒܘܬܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܠܕܘܟܬܐ ܕܒܢܝܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܗ̇ ܡܢ ܠܘܩܕܡ12 To them he said, 'You are the heads of the levitical families. Sanctify yourselves, you and yourkinsmen, so that you can move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel, to the place which I have prepared for it.
13 ܕܠܐ ܢܬܪܘܥ ܒܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܠܐ ܬܒܥܢܝܗܝ ܐܝܟ ܕܝܢܐ13 Because you were not there the first time, Yahweh our God broke out at us because we did nothandle it properly.'
14 ܘܐܬܩܕܫܘ ܟܗ̈ܢܐ ܘܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܠܡܣܩܘ ܠܩܒܘܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ14 So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves, to move the ark of Yahweh, God of Israel,
15 ܘܫܩܠܘ ܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܠܩܒܘܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܕܦܩܕ ܡܘܫܐ ܒܡܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܫܩܠܘ ܗܢܘܢ ܒܟ̈ܬܦܬܗܘܢ15 and the Levites carried the ark of God with the shafts on their shoulders, as Moses had ordered inaccordance with the word of Yahweh.
16 ܘܐܡܪ ܕܘܝܕ ܠܩܫ̈ܝܫܐ ܕܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܠܡܩܡܘ ܠܐܚ̈ܝܗܘܢ ܠܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܫܡܫܝܢ ܘܡܫܒܚܝܢ ܒܡܐ̈ܢܝ ܬܫܒ̈ܚܬܐ ܒܝܒ̈ܠܐ ܘܒܟܢܪ̈ܐ ܘܒܨ̈ܨܠܐ ܕܢܗܘܘܢ ܡܫܡܥܝܢ ܠܡܪܡܘ ܩܠܗܘܢ ܒܚܕܘܬܐ16 David also told the heads of the Levites to appoint their kinsmen as singers with the accompanimentof musical instruments, lyres, harps, and cymbals to play joyful y.
17 ܘܐܩܝܡܘ ܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܠܗܡܢ ܒܪ ܝܘܐܝܠ ܘܡܢ ܐܚ̈ܘܗܝ ܠܐܣܦ ܒܪ ܒܪܟܝܐ ܘܡܢ ܒ̈ܢܝ ܡܪܪܝ ܐܚܘܗܘܢ ܐܬܢ ܒܪ ܩܝܫܗܘ17 The Levites then appointed Heman son of Joel, Asaph son of Berechiah, one of his brothers, Ethanson of Kushaiah, one of their Merarite kinsmen;
18 ܘܥܡܗܘܢ ܐܚܘܗܘܢ ܬܢܝܢܐ ܙܟܪܝܐ ܒܪ ܢܥܐܝܠ ܘܝܘܚܐܝܠ ܘܐܠܝܒ ܘܒܢܝܐ ܘܐܣܐ ܘܡܬܝܬܐ ܘܐܠܝܦܠܗܘ ܘܡܩܝܗܘ ܘܥܘܒܪ ܐܕܘܡ ܘܝܥܘܐܝܠ ܗܠܝܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܕܩ̇ܝܡܝܢ ܥܠ ܬܪ̈ܥܐ18 and with them their kinsmen of the second rank: Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab,Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and Obed-Edom and Jehiel the gatekeepers.
19 ܘܡܫܒܚܝܢ ܗܡܢ ܘܐܣܦ ܘܐܬܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܡܫܒܚܝܢ ܒܬܫܒ̈ܚܬܐ ܕܡܐ̈ܢܝ ܢܚܫܐ ܠܡܫܡܫܘ19 The singers, Heman, Asaph and Ethan, were to play the bronze cymbals.
20 ܥܙܪܝܐ ܥܙܐܝܠ ܘܝܘܚܐܝܠ ܘܥܢܝ ܘܐܠܝܒ ܘܡܥܣܝܐ ܘܒܢܝܐ ܘܕܡܫܒܚܝܢ ܒܬܫ̈ܒܚܬܐ20 Zechariah, Uzziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah and Benaiah were to play the lyre.
21 ܡܬܝܬܐ ܘܡܩܝܗܘ ܘܥܘܒܪ ܐܕܘܡ ܘܥܘܙܝܠ ܘܥܘܙܝܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܫܡܫܝܢ ܒܟܢܪ̈ܐ ܟܠܝܘܡ ܒܝܘܡ ܒܫ̈ܥܝܢ ܬܠܬ ܘܒܫܬ ܘܒܬܫܥ21 Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jehiel and Azaziah, giving the beat, were to play theharp.
22 ܘܒܢܝܐ ܪܒܐ ܕܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܫܩ̇ܠ ܟܠܝܘܡ ܒܡܛܠܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܕܘܟܬܐ ܡܬܩܢܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܗ22 Chenaniah, the levitical director of transport was in charge of the transport, being skilful at it.
23 ܘܒܪܟܝܐ ܘܗܠܩܢܐ ܣ̇ܥܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܩܒܘܬܐ ܡܕܡ ܕܡܬܒܥܐ ܠܗ̇23 Berechiah and Elkanah were gatekeepers for the ark.
24 ܘܫܒܢܐ ܘܝܘܫܦܛ ܘܢܬܢܝܐܝܠ ܘܥܡܫܝ ܘܙܟܪܝܐ ܘܒܢܝܐ ܘܐܠܝܥܙܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܟܗ̈ܢܐ ܕܩ̇ܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܒܩܪ̈ܢܬܐ ܩܕܡ ܩܒܘܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܥܘܒܪ ܐܕܘܡ ܘܐܚܝܐ ܣ̇ܥܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܩܒܘܬܐ24 The priests Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah and Eliezer blew trumpetsbefore the ark of God, while Obed-Edom and Jehiah were also gatekeepers for the ark.
25 ܘܗܘܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܘܩܫܝ̈ܫܐ ܕܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܘܪ̈ܘܪܒܢܐ ܕܐ̈ܠܦܐ ܐ̇ܙܠܝܢ ܠܡܣܩܘ ܩܒܘܬܐ ܕܕܝܬܩܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܬܗ ܕܥܘܒܪ ܐܕܘܡ ܠܩܪܝܬܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܒܚܕܘܬܐ ܪܒܬܐ25 David, the elders of Israel and the commanders of the thousands accordingly went, amid greatrejoicing, to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahweh up from Obed-Edom's house,
26 ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܥ̇ܕܪ ܡܪܝܐ ܠܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܕܫܩܝܠܝܢ ܩܒܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ̇ ܕܝܬܩܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܕܒܚܘ ܫܒܥܐ ܬܘܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܫܒܥܐ ܕܟܪ̈ܝܢ26 and since God was helping the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, theysacrificed seven bul s and seven rams.
27 ܘܕܘܝܕ ܠܒܝܫ ܢܚ̈ܬܐ ܕܒܘܨܐ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܠܘ̈ܝܐ ܕܫܩܝܠܝܢ ܩܒܘܬܐ ܠܒܝܫܝܢ ܐܦ ܗܢܘܢ ܢܚ̈ܬܐ ܕܒܘܨܐ ܘܠܥܠ ܡܢ ܢܚ̈ܬܘܗܝ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܕܒܘܨܐ ܠܒܝܫ ܗܘܐ ܦܕܬܐ ܕܒܘܨܐ27 David, al the Levites who carried the ark, the singers and Chenaniah, director of transport, worecloaks of fine linen. David also wore a linen ephod.
28 ܘܕܘܝܕ ܘܟܠܗܘܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܐܝܣܪܝܠ ܡܣܩܝܢ ܠܩܒܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ̇ ܕܝܬܩܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܒܬܫܒ̈ܚܬܐ ܘܒܩܠܐ ܕܩܪ̈ܢܬܐ ܦܫܝ̈ܛܬܐ ܘܟܦܝ̈ܦܬܐ ܘܡܥܫܢܝܢ ܩܠܗܘܢ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܡܪܘܡܐ28 Thus, with war-cries and the sounding of the horn, the trumpets and the cymbals, and the music oflyres and harps, al Israel transported the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.
29 ܘܗܘܐ ܕܟܕ ܡܛܝܬ ܩܒܘܬܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܗ̇ ܕܝܬܩܐ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܘܥܠܬ ܘܡܛܬ ܠܕܘܟܬܗ̇ ܠܩܪܝܬܗ ܕܕܘܝܕ ܡܠܟܠ ܒܪܬ ܫܐܘܠ ܐܕܝܩܬ ܡܢ ܟܘܬܐ ܘܚܙܬܗ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܕܘܝܕ ܕܚ̇ܕܐ ܘܡܫܬܥܐ ܘܐܫܝܛܬ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܒܠܒܗ̇29 Now, as the ark of the covenant of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul waswatching from the window and, when she saw King David dancing and playing, the sight of him filled her withcontempt.
