Prima lettera di Giovanni 1

1 Ciò che era fin da principio, ciò che noi abbiamo udito, ciò che noi abbiamo veduto con i nostri occhi, ciò che noi abbiamo contemplato e ciò che le nostre mani hanno toccato, ossia il Verbo della vita	1 He who was from the beginning, whom we have heard, whom we have seen with our eyes, upon whom we have gazed, and whom our hands have certainly touched: He is the Word of Life.
2 (poiché la vita si è fatta visibile, noi l'abbiamo veduta e di ciò rendiamo testimonianza e vi annunziamo la vita eterna, che era presso il Padre e si è resa visibile a noi),	2 And that Life has been made manifest. And we have seen, and we testify, and we announce to you: the Eternal Life, who was with the Father, and who appeared to us.
3 quello che abbiamo veduto e udito, noi lo annunziamo anche a voi, perché anche voi siate in comunione con noi. La nostra comunione è col Padre e col Figlio suo Gesù Cristo.	3 He whom we have seen and heard, we announce to you, so that you, too, may have fellowship with us, and so that our fellowship may be with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 Queste cose vi scriviamo, perché la nostra gioia sia perfetta.	4 And this we write to you, so that you may rejoice, and so that your joy may be full.
5 Questo è il messaggio che abbiamo udito da lui e che ora vi annunziamo: Dio è luce e in lui non ci sono tenebre.	5 And this is the announcement which we have heard from him, and which we announce to you: that God is light, and in him there is no darkness.
6 Se diciamo che siamo in comunione con lui e camminiamo nelle tenebre, mentiamo e non mettiamo in pratica la verità.	6 If we claim that we have fellowship with him, and yet we walk in darkness, then we are lying and not telling the truth.
7 Ma se camminiamo nella luce, come egli è nella luce, siamo in comunione gli uni con gli altri, e il sangue di Gesù, suo Figlio, ci purifica da ogni peccato.	7 But if we walk in the light, just as he also is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.
8 Se diciamo che siamo senza peccato, inganniamo noi stessi e la verità non è in noi.	8 If we claim that we have no sin, then we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
9 Se riconosciamo i nostri peccati, egli che è fedele e giusto ci perdonerà i peccati e ci purificherà da ogni colpa.	9 If we confess our sins, then he is faithful and just, so as to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all iniquity.
10 Se diciamo che non abbiamo peccato, facciamo di lui un bugiardo e la sua parola non è in noi.	10 If we claim that we have not sinned, then we make him a liar, and his Word is not in us.
