Prima lettera ai Corinzi 8

1 Quanto poi alle carni immolate agli idoli, sappiamo di averne tutti scienza.	1 Now about food which has been dedicated to false gods. We are wel aware that al of us haveknowledge; but while knowledge puffs up, love is what builds up.
2 Ma la scienza gonfia, mentre la carità edifica. Se alcuno crede di sapere qualche cosa, non ha ancora imparato come bisogna sapere.	2 Someone may think that he has ful knowledge of something and yet not know it as wel as he should;
3 Chi invece ama Dio, è da lui conosciuto.	3 but someone who loves God is known by God.
4 Quanto dunque al mangiare le carni immolate agli idoli, noi sappiamo che non esiste alcun idolo al mondo e che non c'è che un Dio solo.	4 On the subject of eating foods dedicated to false gods, we are wel aware that none of the false godsexists in reality and that there is no God other than the One.
5 E in realtà, anche se vi sono cosiddetti dèi sia nel cielo sia sulla terra, e difatti ci sono molti dèi e molti signori,	5 Though there are so-cal ed gods, in the heavens or on earth -- and there are plenty of gods and plentyof lords-
6 per noi c'è un solo Dio, il Padre, dal quale tutto proviene e noi siamo per lui; e un solo Signore Gesù Cristo, in virtù del quale esistono tutte le cose e noi esistiamo per lui.	6 yet for us there is only one God, the Father from whom al things come and for whom we exist, and oneLord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things come and through whom we exist.
7 Ma non tutti hanno questa scienza; alcuni, per la consuetudine avuta fino al presente con gli idoli, mangiano le carni come se fossero davvero immolate agli idoli, e così la loro coscienza, debole com'è, resta contaminata.	7 However, not everybody has this knowledge. There are some in whose consciences false gods stillplay such a part that they take the food as though it had been dedicated to a god; then their conscience, beingvulnerable, is defiled,
8 Non sarà certo un alimento ad avvicinarci a Dio; né, se non ne mangiamo, veniamo a mancare di qualche cosa, né mangiandone ne abbiamo un vantaggio.	8 But of course food cannot make us acceptable to God; we lose nothing by not eating it, we gain nothingby eating it.
9 Badate però che questa vostra libertà non divenga occasione di caduta per i deboli.	9 Only be careful that this freedom of yours does not in any way turn into an obstacle to trip those whoare vulnerable.
10 Se uno infatti vede te, che hai la scienza, stare a convito in un tempio di idoli, la coscienza di quest'uomo debole non sarà forse spinta a mangiare le carni immolate agli idoli?	10 Suppose someone sees you, who have the knowledge, sitting eating in the temple of some false god,do you not think that his conscience, vulnerable as it is, may be encouraged to eat foods dedicated to falsegods?
11 Ed ecco, per la tua scienza, va in rovina il debole, un fratello per il quale Cristo è morto!	11 And then it would be through your knowledge that this brother for whom Christ died, vulnerable as heis, has been lost.
12 Peccando così contro i fratelli e ferendo la loro coscienza debole, voi peccate contro Cristo.	12 So, sinning against your brothers and wounding their vulnerable consciences, you would be sinningagainst Christ.
13 Per questo, se un cibo scandalizza il mio fratello, non mangerò mai più carne, per non dare scandalo al mio fratello.	13 That is why, if food can be the cause of a brother's downfal , I wil never eat meat any more, ratherthan cause my brother's downfal .
