Lettera ai Romani 10

1 Fratelli, il desiderio del mio cuore e la mia preghiera sale a Dio per la loro salvezza.	1 Brothers, my dearest wish and my prayer to God is for them, that they may be saved.
2 Rendo infatti loro testimonianza che hanno zelo per Dio, ma non secondo una retta conoscenza;	2 I readily testify to their fervour for God, but it is misguided.
3 poiché, ignorando la giustizia di Dio e cercando di stabilire la propria, non si sono sottomessi alla giustizia di Dio.	3 Not recognising God's saving justice they have tried to establish their own, instead of submitting tothe saving justice of God.
4 Ora, il termine della legge è Cristo, perché sia data la giustizia a chiunque crede.	4 But the Law has found its fulfilment in Christ so that al who have faith wil be justified.
5 Mosè infatti descrive la giustizia che viene dalla legge così: 'L'uomo che la pratica vivrà per essa'.	5 Moses writes of the saving justice that comes by the Law and says that whoever complies with it wilfind life in it.
6 Invece la giustizia che viene dalla fede parla così: 'Non dire nel tuo cuore: Chi salirà al cielo'? Questo significa farne discendere Cristo;	6 But the saving justice of faith says this: Do not think in your heart, 'Who wil go up to heaven?' --
7 oppure: 'Chi discenderà nell'abisso'? Questo significa far risalire Cristo dai morti.	7 that is to bring Christ down; or 'Who wil go down to the depths?' -- that is to bring Christ back fromthe dead.
8 Che dice dunque? 'Vicino a te è la parola, sulla tua bocca e nel tuo cuore': cioè la parola della fede che noi predichiamo.	8 What does it say, then? The word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that is, theword of faith, the faith which we preach,
9 Poiché se confesserai con la tua bocca che Gesù è il Signore, e crederai con il tuo cuore che Dio lo ha risuscitato dai morti, sarai salvo.	9 that if you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe with your heart that Godraised him from the dead, then you wil be saved.
10 Con il cuore infatti si crede per ottenere la giustizia e con la bocca si fa la professione di fede per avere la salvezza.	10 It is by believing with the heart that you are justified, and by making the declaration with your lipsthat you are saved.
11 Dice infatti la Scrittura: 'Chiunque crede in lui non sarà deluso'.	11 When scripture says: No one who relies on this wil be brought to disgrace,
12 Poiché non c'è distinzione fra Giudeo e Greco, dato che lui stesso è il Signore di tutti, ricco verso tutti quelli che l'invocano.	12 it makes no distinction between Jew and Greek: the same Lord is the Lord of all, and his generosityis offered to al who appeal to him,
13 Infatti: 'Chiunque invocherà il nome del Signore sarà salvato'.	13 for al who cal on the name of the Lord wil be saved.
14 Ora, come potranno invocarlo senza aver prima creduto in lui? E come potranno credere, senza averne sentito parlare? E come potranno sentirne parlare senza uno che lo annunzi?	14 How then are they to call on him if they have not come to believe in him? And how can they believein him if they have never heard of him? And how wil they hear of him unless there is a preacher for them?
15 E come lo annunzieranno, senza essere prima inviati? Come sta scritto: 'Quanto son belli i piedi di coloro che recano un lieto annunzio di bene'!	15 And how wil there be preachers if they are not sent? As scripture says: How beautiful are the feet ofthe messenger of good news.
16 Ma non tutti hanno obbedito al vangelo. Lo dice Isaia: Signore, 'chi ha creduto alla nostra predicazione'?	16 But in fact they have not all responded to the good news. As Isaiah says: Lord, who has givencredence to what they have heard from us?
17 La fede dipende dunque dalla predicazione e la predicazione a sua volta si attua per la parola di Cristo.	17 But it is in that way faith comes, from hearing, and that means hearing the word of Christ.
18 Ora io dico: Non hanno forse udito? Tutt'altro: 'per tutta la terra è corsa la loro voce, e fino ai confini del mondo le loro parole'.	18 Wel then, I say, is it possible that they have not heard? Indeed they have: in the entire earth theirvoice stands out, their message reaches the whole world.
19 E dico ancora: Forse Israele non ha compreso? Già per primo Mosè dice: 'Io vi renderò gelosi di un popolo che non è popolo; contro una nazione senza intelligenza susciterò il vostro sdegno'.	19 Wel , another question, then: is it possible that Israel did not understand? In the first place Mosessaid: I shal rouse you to jealousy with a non-people, I shal exasperate you with a stupid nation.
20 Isaia poi arriva fino ad affermare: 'Sono stato trovato da quelli che non mi cercavano, mi sono manifestato a quelli che non si rivolgevano a me',	20 And Isaiah is even bold enough to say: I have let myself be found by those who did not seek me; Ihave let myself be seen by those who did not consult me;
21 mentre di Israele dice: 'Tutto il giorno ho steso le mani verso un popolo disobbediente e ribelle'!	21 and referring to Israel, he says: Al day long I have been stretching out my hands to a disobedientand rebel ious people.
