1 Queste sono le ultime parole di Davide: "Oracolo di Davide, figlio di Iesse, oracolo dell'uomo che l'Altissimo ha innalzato, del consacrato del Dio di Giacobbe, del soave cantore d'Israele.	1 Now these are the last words of David: The oracle of David, the son of Jesse, the oracle of the man who was raised on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, the sweet psalmist of Israel:
2 Lo spirito del Signore parla in me, la sua parola è sulla mia lingua;	2 "The Spirit of the LORD speaks by me, his word is upon my tongue.
3 il Dio di Giacobbe ha parlato, la rupe d'Israele mi ha detto: Chi governa gli uomini ed è giusto, chi governa con timore di Dio,	3 The God of Israel has spoken, the Rock of Israel has said to me: When one rules justly over men, ruling in the fear of God,
4 è come la luce del mattino al sorgere del sole, in un mattino senza nubi, che fa scintillare dopo la pioggia i germogli della terra.	4 he dawns on them like the morning light, like the sun shining forth upon a cloudless morning, like rain that makes grass to sprout from the earth.
5 Così è stabile la mia casa davanti a Dio, perché ha stabilito con me un'alleanza eterna, in tutto regolata e garantita. Non farà dunque germogliare quanto mi salva e quanto mi diletta?	5 Yea, does not my house stand so with God? For he has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and secure. For will he not cause to prosper all my help and my desire?
6 Ma gli scellerati sono come spine, che si buttano via a fasci e non si prendono con la mano;	6 But godless men are all like thorns that are thrown away; for they cannot be taken with the hand;
7 chi le tocca usa un ferro o un'asta di lancia e si bruciano al completo nel fuoco".	7 but the man who touches them arms himself with iron and the shaft of a spear, and they are utterly consumed with fire."
8 Questi sono i nomi dei prodi di Davide: Is-Bàal il Cacmonita, capo dei Tre. Egli impugnò la lancia contro ottocento uomini e li trafisse in un solo scontro.	8 These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshebeth a Tah-chemonite; he was chief of the three; he wielded his spear against eight hundred whom he slew at one time.
9 Dopo di lui veniva Eleàzaro figlio di Dodò l'Acochita, uno dei tre prodi che erano con Davide, quando sfidarono i Filistei schierati in battaglia, mentre gli Israeliti si ritiravano sulle alture.	9 And next to him among the three mighty men was Eleazar the son of Dodo, son of Ahohi. He was with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel withdrew.
10 Egli si alzò, percosse i Filistei, finché la sua mano, sfinita, rimase attaccata alla spada. Il Signore concesse in quel giorno una grande vittoria e il popolo seguì Eleàzaro soltanto per spogliare i cadaveri.	10 He rose and struck down the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand cleaved to the sword; and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the men returned after him only to strip the slain.
11 Dopo di lui veniva Sammà figlio di Aghè, l'Ararita. I Filistei erano radunati a Lechì; in quel luogo vi era un campo pieno di lenticchie: mentre il popolo fuggiva dinanzi ai Filistei,	11 And next to him was Shammah, the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines gathered together at Lehi, where there was a plot of ground full of lentils; and the men fled from the Philistines.
12 Sammà si piantò in mezzo al campo, lo difese e sconfisse i Filistei. E il Signore concesse una grande vittoria.	12 But he took his stand in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and the LORD wrought a great victory.
13 Tre dei Trenta scesero al tempo della mietitura e vennero da Davide nella caverna di Adullàm, mentre una schiera di Filistei era accampata nella valle dei Rèfaim.	13 And three of the thirty chief men went down, and came about harvest time to David at the cave of Adullam, when a band of Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim.
14 Davide era allora nella fortezza e c'era un appostamento di Filistei a Betlemme.	14 David was then in the stronghold; and the garrison of the Philistines was then at Bethlehem.
15 Davide espresse un desiderio e disse: "Se qualcuno mi desse da bere l'acqua del pozzo che è vicino alla porta di Betlemme!".	15 And David said longingly, "O that some one would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem which is by the gate!"
16 I tre prodi si aprirono un varco attraverso il campo filisteo, attinsero l'acqua dal pozzo di Betlemme, vicino alla porta, la presero e la presentarono a Davide; il quale però non ne volle bere, ma la sparse davanti al Signore,	16 Then the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem which was by the gate, and took and brought it to David. But he would not drink of it; he poured it out to the LORD,
17 dicendo: "Lungi da me, Signore, il fare tal cosa! È il sangue di questi uomini, che sono andati là a rischio della loro vita!". Non la volle bere. Questo fecero quei tre prodi.	17 and said, "Far be it from me, O LORD, that I should do this. Shall I drink the blood of the men who went at the risk of their lives?" Therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men.
18 Abisài, fratello di Ioab, figlio di Zeruià, fu il capo dei Trenta. Egli impugnò la lancia contro trecento uomini e li trafisse; si acquistò fama fra i trenta.	18 Now Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the thirty. And he wielded his spear against three hundred men and slew them, and won a name beside the three.
19 Fu il più glorioso dei Trenta e perciò fu fatto loro capo, ma non giunse alla pari dei Tre.	19 He was the most renowned of the thirty, and became their commander; but he did not attain to the three.
20 Poi veniva Benaià, figlio di Ioiadà, uomo valoroso, celebre per le sue prodezze, oriundo da Cabseèl. Egli uccise i due figli di Arièl, di Moab. Scese anche in mezzo a una cisterna, dove uccise un leone, in un giorno di neve.	20 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was a valiant man of Kabzeel, a doer of great deeds; he smote two ariels of Moab. He also went down and slew a lion in a pit on a day when snow had fallen.
21 Uccise anche un Egiziano, uomo d'alta statura, che teneva una lancia in mano; Benaià gli scese contro con un bastone, strappò di mano all'Egiziano la lancia e lo uccise con la lancia di lui.	21 And he slew an Egyptian, a handsome man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but Benaiah went down to him with a staff, and snatched the spear out of the Egyptian's hand, and slew him with his own spear.
22 Questo fece Benaià figlio di Ioiadà, e si acquistò fama tra i trenta prodi.	22 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and won a name beside the three mighty men.
23 Fu il più illustre dei Trenta, ma non giunse alla pari dei Tre. Davide lo ammise nel suo consiglio.	23 He was renowned among the thirty, but he did not attain to the three. And David set him over his bodyguard.
24 Poi vi erano Asaèl fratello di Ioab, uno dei Trenta; Elcanàn figlio di Dodò, di Betlemme.	24 Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,
25 Sammà di Caròd; Elikà di Caròd;	25 Shammah of Harod, Elika of Harod,
26 Cèles di Pelèt; Ira figlio di Ikkès, di Tekòa;	26 Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh of Tekoa,
27 Abièzer di Ànatot; Mebunnài di Cusà;	27 Abi-ezer, of Anathoth, Mebunnai the Hushathite,
28 Zalmòn di Acòach; Maharai di Netofà;	28 Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai of Netophah,
29 Chèleb figlio di Baanà, di Netofà; Ittài figlio di Ribài, di Gàbaa di Beniamino; Benaià di Piratòn;	29 Heleb the son of Baanah of Netophah, Ittai the son of Ribai of Gibe-ah of the Benjaminites,
30 Iddài di Nahale-Gaàs;	30 Benaiah of Pirathon, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,
31 Abi-Albòn di Arbàt; Azmàvet di Bacurìm;	31 Abi-albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth of Bahurim,
32 Eliacbà di Saalbòn; Iasèn di Gun;	32 Eliahba of Sha-albon, the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,
33 Giònata figlio di Sammà, di Aràr; Achiàm figlio di Saràr, di Afàr;	33 Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite,
34 Elifèlet figlio di Acasbài, il Maacatita; Eliàm figlio di Achitòfel, di Ghilo;	34 Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai of Maacah, Eliam the son of Ahithophel of Gilo,
35 Chesrài del Carmelo; Paarài di Aràb;	35 Hezro of Carmel, Paarai the Arbite,
36 Igàl figlio di Natàn, da Zobà; Banì di Gad;	36 Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite,
37 Zèlek l'Ammonita; Nacrai da Beeròt, scudiero di Ioab, figlio di Zeruià;	37 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai of Be-eroth, the armor-bearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah,
38 Irà di Ièter; Garèb di Ièter;	38 Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,
39 Uria l'Hittita. In tutto trentasette.	39 Uriah the Hittite: thirty-seven in all.
