BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 En lo que se refiere al tiempo y al momento, hermanos, no tenéis necesidad que os escriba.	1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
2 Vosotros mismos sabéis perfectamente que el Día del Señor ha de venir como un ladrón en la noche.	2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
3 Cuando digan: «Paz y seguridad», entonces mismo, de repente, vendrá sobre ellos la ruina, como los dolores de parto a la que está encinta; y no escaparán.	3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
4 Pero vosotros, hermanos, no vivís en la oscuridad, para que ese Día os sorprenda como ladrón,	4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
5 pues todos vosotros sois hijos de la luz e hijos del día. Nosotros no somos de la noche ni de las tinieblas.	5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
6 Así pues, no durmamos como los demás, sino velemos y seamos sobrios.	6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
7 Pues los que duermen, de noche duermen, y los que se embriagan, de noche se embriagan.	7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
8 Nosotros, por el contrario, que somos del día, seamos sobrios; revistamos la coraza de la fe y de la caridad, con el yelmo de la esperanza de salvación.	8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
9 Dios no nos ha destinado para la cólera, sino para obtener la salvación por nuestro Señor Jesucristo,	9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 que murió por nosotros, para que, velando o durmiendo, vivamos juntos con él.	10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
11 Por esto, confortaos mutuamente y edificaos los unos a los otros, como ya lo hacéis.	11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
12 Os pedimos, hermanos, que tengáis en consideración a los que trabajan entre vosotros, os presiden en el Señor y os amonestan.	12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
13 Tenedles en la mayor estima con amor por su labor. Vivid en paz unos con otros.	13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
14 Os exhortamos, asimismo, hermanos, a que amonestéis a los que viven desconcertados, animéis a los pusilánimes, sostengáis a los débiles y seáis pacientes con todos.	14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
15 Mirad que nadie devuelva a otro mal por mal, antes bien, procurad siempre el bien mutuo y el de todos.	15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
16 Estad siempre alegres.	16 Always be joyful;
17 Orad constantemente.	17 pray constantly;
18 En todo dad gracias, pues esto es lo que Dios, en Cristo Jesús, quiere de vosotros.	18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
19 No extingáis el Espíritu;	19 Do not stifle the Spirit
20 no despreciéis las profecías;	20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
21 examinadlo todo y quedaos con lo bueno.	21 test everything and hold on to what is good
22 Absteneos de todo género de mal.	22 and shun every form of evil.
23 Que El, el Dios de la paz, os santifique plenamente, y que todo vuestro ser, el espíritu, el alma y el cuerpo, se conserve sin mancha hasta la Venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.	23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Fiel es el que os llama y es él quien lo hará.	24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
25 Hermanos, orad también por nosotros.	25 Pray for us, my brothers.
26 Saludad a todos los hermanos con el beso santo.	26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Os conjuro por el Señor que esta carta sea leída a todos los hermanos.	27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
