1 From the Elder: greetings to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in truth.	1 Старец--возлюбленному Гаию, которого я люблю по истине.
2 My dear friend, I hope everything is going happily with you and that you are as well physical y as youare spiritual y.	2 Возлюбленный! молюсь, чтобы ты здравствовал и преуспевал во всем, как преуспевает душа твоя.
3 It was a great joy to me when some brothers came and told of your faithfulness to the truth, and of yourlife in the truth.	3 Ибо я весьма обрадовался, когда пришли братия и засвидетельствовали о твоей верности, как ты ходишь в истине.
4 It is always my greatest joy to hear that my children are living according to the truth.	4 Для меня нет большей радости, как слышать, что дети мои ходят в истине.
5 My dear friend, you have done loyal work in helping these brothers, even though they were strangers toyou.	5 Возлюбленный! ты как верный поступаешь в том, что делаешь для братьев и для странников.
6 They are a proof to the whole Church of your love and it would be a kindness if you could help them ontheir journey as God would approve.	6 Они засвидетельствовали перед церковью о твоей любви. Ты хорошо поступишь, если отпустишь их, как должно ради Бога,
7 It was entirely for the sake of the name that they set out, without depending on the non-believers foranything:	7 ибо они ради имени Его пошли, не взяв ничего от язычников.
8 it is our duty to welcome people of this sort and contribute our share to their work for the truth.	8 Итак мы должны принимать таковых, чтобы сделаться споспешниками истине.
9 I have written a note for the members of the church, but Diotrephes, who enjoys being in charge of it,refuses to accept us.	9 Я писал церкви; но любящий первенствовать у них Диотреф не принимает нас.
10 So if I come, I shal tel everyone how he has behaved, and about the wicked accusations he has beencirculating against us. As if that were not enough, he not only refuses to welcome our brothers, but prevents fromdoing so other people who would have liked to, and expels them from the church.	10 Посему, если я приду, то напомню о делах, которые он делает, понося нас злыми словами, и не довольствуясь тем, и сам не принимает братьев, и запрещает желающим, и изгоняет из церкви.
11 My dear friend, never fol ow a bad example, but keep fol owing the good one; whoever does what isright is from God, but no one who does what is wrong has ever seen God.	11 Возлюбленный! не подражай злу, но добру. Кто делает добро, тот от Бога; а делающий зло не видел Бога.
12 Demetrius has been approved by everyone, and indeed by Truth itself. We too wil vouch for him andyou know that our testimony is true.	12 О Димитрии засвидетельствовано всеми и самою истиною; свидетельствуем также и мы, и вы знаете, что свидетельство наше истинно.
13 There were several things I had to tel you but I would rather not trust them to pen and ink.	13 Многое имел я писать; но не хочу писать к тебе чернилами и тростью,
14 However, I hope to see you soon and talk to you in person.	14 а надеюсь скоро увидеть тебя и поговорить устами к устам. (1-15) Мир тебе. Приветствуют тебя друзья; приветствуй друзей поименно. Аминь.
