1 From the Elder: greetings to my dear friend Gaius, whom I love in truth.	1 Il seniore a Gaio carissimo, il quale io amo nella verità.
2 My dear friend, I hope everything is going happily with you and that you are as well physical y as youare spiritual y.	2 Carissimo sopr'ogni cosa io fo orazione, perché le cose tue vadan bene, e sii sano, come bene sta l'anima tua.
3 It was a great joy to me when some brothers came and told of your faithfulness to the truth, and of yourlife in the truth.	3 Mi sono rallegrato molto all'arrivo de' fratelli i quali han renduto testimonianza alla tua sincerità, siccome tu cammini nella sincerità.
4 It is always my greatest joy to hear that my children are living according to the truth.	4 Più grata cosa di questa io non ho, che di sentire, che i miei figliuoli camminino nella verità.
5 My dear friend, you have done loyal work in helping these brothers, even though they were strangers toyou.	5 Carissimo, tu la fai da fedele in tutto quello, che operi verso i fratelli, e più verso i pellegrini,
6 They are a proof to the whole Church of your love and it would be a kindness if you could help them ontheir journey as God would approve.	6 I quali hanno renduta testimonianza alla tua carità davanti alla Chiesa: i quali se provvederai di viatico come per Iddio ben farai.
7 It was entirely for the sake of the name that they set out, without depending on the non-believers foranything:	7 Imperocché pel nome di lui si sono partiti, nulla ricevendo da' gentili.
8 it is our duty to welcome people of this sort and contribute our share to their work for the truth.	8 Noi pertanto dobbiamo accogliere simili persone, affin di cooperare alla verità.
9 I have written a note for the members of the church, but Diotrephes, who enjoys being in charge of it,refuses to accept us.	9 Avrei forse scritto alla Chiesa: ma colui, che vuoi farla da caporione, Diotrefe, non vuol saper nulla di noi:
10 So if I come, I shal tel everyone how he has behaved, and about the wicked accusations he has beencirculating against us. As if that were not enough, he not only refuses to welcome our brothers, but prevents fromdoing so other people who would have liked to, and expels them from the church.	10 Per questo se io verrò, gli rammenterò le opere, che va facendo, con maligne parole cianciando contro di noi: e quasi ciò non gli basti, né egli da ricetto ai fratelli, e rattiene quei, che gli ricettano, e gli caccia dalla Chiesa.
11 My dear friend, never fol ow a bad example, but keep fol owing the good one; whoever does what isright is from God, but no one who does what is wrong has ever seen God.	11 Carissimo, non imitare il male, ma il bene. Chi ben fa, o da Dio: chi mai fa, non ha veduto Dio.
12 Demetrius has been approved by everyone, and indeed by Truth itself. We too wil vouch for him andyou know that our testimony is true.	12 A Demetrio è reuduta testimonianza da tutti, e dalla stessa verità, e noi pure gli rendiamo testimonianza: e tu sai, che la nostra testimonianza è verace.
13 There were several things I had to tel you but I would rather not trust them to pen and ink.	13 Io aveva molte cose da scriverti: ma non ho voluto scrivertele con penna, e inchiostro.
14 However, I hope to see you soon and talk to you in person.	14 Ma spero di vederti tosto, e parleremo a faccia a faccia. Pace a te. Gli amici ti salutano. Saluta gli amici a uno a uno.
