1 Peter 5

NEW JERUSALEM	Peshitta
1 I urge the elders among you, as a fellow-elder myself and a witness to the sufferings of Christ, and asone who is to have a share in the glory that is to be revealed:	1 ܒܥܐ ܐܢܐ ܕܝܢ ܡܢ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܒܟܘܢ ܐܢܐ ܩܫܝܫܐ ܚܒܪܟܘܢ ܘܤܗܕܐ ܕܚܫܘܗܝ ܕܡܫܝܚܐ ܘܫܘܬܦܐ ܕܫܘܒܚܗ ܗܘ ܕܥܬܝܕ ܕܢܬܓܠܐ ܀
2 give a shepherd's care to the flock of God that is entrusted to you: watch over it, not simply as a dutybut gladly, as God wants; not for sordid money, but because you are eager to do it.	2 ܪܥܘ ܡܪܥܝܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܕܡܫܠܡܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܘܤܥܘܪܘ ܪܘܚܢܐܝܬ ܠܐ ܒܩܛܝܪܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܨܒܝܢܐ ܠܐ ܒܝܘܬܪܢܐ ܛܢܦܐ ܐܠܐ ܡܢ ܟܠܗ ܠܒܟܘܢ ܀
3 Do not lord it over the group which is in your charge, but be an example for the flock.	3 ܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܡܪܝܐ ܕܡܪܥܝܬܐ ܐܠܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܬܗܘܘܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܕܡܘܬܐ ܫܦܝܪܬܐ ܀
4 When the chief shepherd appears, you wil be given the unfading crown of glory.	4 ܕܟܕ ܢܬܓܠܐ ܪܒ ܪܥܘܬܐ ܬܩܒܠܘܢ ܡܢܗ ܟܠܝܠܐ ܕܫܘܒܚܐ ܕܠܐ ܚܡܐ ܀
5 In the same way, younger people, be subject to the elders. Humility towards one another must be thegarment you all wear constantly, because God opposes the proud but accords his favour to the humble.	5 ܘܐܢܬܘܢ ܥܠܝܡܐ ܐܫܬܥܒܕܘ ܠܩܫܝܫܝܟܘܢ ܘܐܬܥܛܦܘ ܚܝܨܐܝܬ ܡܟܝܟܘܬ ܪܥܝܢܐ ܠܘܬ ܚܕܕܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܤܩܘܒܠܐ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܡܬܬܪܝܡܝܢ ܘܠܡܟܝܟܐ ܝܗܒ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܀
6 Bow down, then, before the power of God now, so that he may raise you up in due time;	6 ܐܬܡܟܟܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܬܚܝܬ ܐܝܕܗ ܬܩܝܦܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܕܗܝ ܬܪܝܡܟܘܢ ܒܙܒܢܐ ܕܙܕܩ ܀
7 unload al your burden on to him, since he is concerned about you.	7 ܘܨܦܬܟܘܢ ܟܠܗ ܫܕܘ ܥܠ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܠܗ ܒܛܝܠ ܥܠܝܟܘܢ ܀
8 Keep sober and alert, because your enemy the devil is on the prowl like a roaring lion, looking forsomeone to devour.	8 ܐܬܬܥܝܪܘ ܘܥܗܕܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܥܠܕܒܒܟܘܢ ܤܛܢܐ ܐܝܟ ܐܪܝܐ ܢܗܡ ܘܡܗܠܟ ܘܒܥܐ ܕܠܡܢܘ ܢܒܠܥ ܀
9 Stand up to him, strong in faith and in the knowledge that it is the same kind of suffering that thecommunity of your brothers throughout the world is undergoing.	9 ܩܘܡܘ ܗܟܝܠ ܠܩܘܒܠܗ ܟܕ ܡܫܪܪܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܘܕܥܘ ܕܐܦ ܥܠ ܐܚܝܟܘܢ ܕܒܥܠܡܐ ܗܢܘܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܚܫܐ ܥܪܨܝܢ ܀
10 You wil have to suffer only for a little while: the God of all grace who called you to eternal glory inChrist wil restore you, he wil confirm, strengthen and support you.	10 ܐܠܗܐ ܕܝܢ ܕܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܗܘ ܕܩܪܢ ܠܫܘܒܚܗ ܕܠܥܠܡ ܒܝܕ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܗܘ ܕܝܗܒ ܠܢ ܕܟܕ ܢܤܝܒܪ ܗܠܝܢ ܐܘܠܨܢܐ ܙܥܘܪܐ ܕܢܬܚܝܠ ܘܢܫܬܪܪ ܘܢܬܩܝܡ ܒܗ ܠܥܠܡ ܀
11 His power lasts for ever and ever. Amen.	11 ܕܠܗ ܫܘܒܚܐ ܘܐܘܚܕܢܐ ܘܐܝܩܪܐ ܠܥܠܡ ܥܠܡܝܢ ܐܡܝܢ ܀
12 I write these few words to you through Silvanus, who is a trustworthy brother, to encourage you andattest that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it!	12 ܗܠܝܢ ܙܥܘܪܝܬܐ ܐܝܟ ܕܤܒܪ ܐܢܐ ܟܬܒܬ ܠܟܘܢ ܒܝܕ ܤܠܘܢܘܤ ܐܚܐ ܡܗܝܡܢܐ ܘܡܦܤ ܐܢܐ ܘܤܗܕ ܐܢܐ ܕܗܕܐ ܗܝ ܛܝܒܘܬܐ ܫܪܝܪܬܐ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܗܕܐ ܕܩܝܡܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܒܗ ܀
13 Your sister in Babylon, who is with you among the chosen, sends you greetings; so does my son,Mark.	13 ܫܐܠܐ ܫܠܡܟܘܢ ܥܕܬܐ ܓܒܝܬܐ ܕܒܒܒܠ ܘܡܪܩܘܤ ܒܪܝ ܀
14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you al who are in Christ.	14 ܫܐܠܘ ܒܫܠܡܐ ܚܕ ܕܚܕ ܒܢܘܫܩܬܐ ܩܕܝܫܬܐ ܫܠܡܐ ܥܡ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܒܡܫܝܚܐ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܡܝܢ ܀
