Joshua 5

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblia Matos Soares
1 When al the kings of the Amorites living to westward across the Jordan, and al the kings of theCanaanites living on the seaboard, heard that Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan before theIsraelites until they had crossed, their hearts failed and they lost al courage to resist the Israelites.	1 Quando todos os reis dos Amorreus, que habitavam na outra banda do Jordão, ao ocidente, e todos os reis de Canaan, que possuíam os lugares vizinhos do Mar Grande, ouviram dizer que o Senhor tinha secado a corrente do Jordão diante dos filhos de Israel, até que passassem, enfraqueceu-se-lhes o coração, não ficou neles alento, temendo a entrada dos filhos de Israel.
2 At this time Yahweh said to Joshua, 'Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites again (a secondtime).	2 Então o Senhor disse a Josué: Faze facas de pedra, e restabelece novamente a circuncisão entre os filhos de Irsrael. Josué, fazendo o que o Senhor lhe mandara, circuncidou os filhos de Israel sobre o outeiro (chamado por isso) da Circuncisão.
3 Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites on the Hil of Foreskins.	3 A causa desta circuncisão é a seguinte: Todos os varões dentre o povo, que tinham saído do Egipto, todos os homens de guerra tinham morrido no deserto durante os larguíssimos rodeios do caminho,
4 The reason why Joshua circumcised them was this. Al the males of the people who had come out ofEgypt of age to bear arms had died in the desert on their journey after leaving Egypt.
5 Now, al the people who came out had been circumcised; but none of those born in the desert, duringthe journey, after leaving Egypt, had been circumcised;	5 e todos estes tinham sido circuncidados. Porém o povo que nasceu no deserto,
6 for the Israelites walked the desert for forty years, until the whole nation had died out, that is, the menwho had come out of Egypt of age to bear arms; they had not obeyed the voice of Yahweh, and Yahweh hadsworn to them never to let them see the land which he had sworn to their ancestors that he would give us, a landflowing with milk and honey.	6 durante os quarenta anos de marcha por aquela vastíssima solidão, permaneceu incircunciso, até que morreram aqueles que não tinham obedecido à voz do Senhor, e aos quais ele antes tinha jurado que lhes não mostraria a terra que manava leite e mel.
7 But in place of these he set their sons, and these were the ones whom Joshua circumcised: they wereuncircumcised because they had not been circumcised during the journey.	7 Os filhos destes foram postos (pelo Senhor) no lugar de seus pais, o circuncidou-os Josué, porque estavam incircuncisos, visto que ninguém os tinha circuncidado no caminho.
8 When the circumcising of the whole nation was finished, they stayed resting in the camp till they werewel again.	8 Depois que foram todos circuncidados, permaneceram acampados no mesmo lugar, até sararem.
9 Yahweh then said to Joshua, 'Today I have taken the shame of Egypt away from you.' Hence, the placehas been cal ed Gilgal ever since.	9 O Senhor disse a Josué: Hoje tirei de cima de vós o opróbrio do Egipto. E foi dado àquele lugar o nome de Galgala até ao dia de hoje.
10 The Israelites pitched their camp at Gilgal and kept the Passover there on the fourteenth day of themonth, at evening, in the plain of Jericho.	10 Os filhos de Israel permaneceram em Galgala, onde celebraram a Páscoa, no dia catorze do mês, pela tarde, na planície de Jericó;
11 On the very next day after the Passover, they ate what the land produced, unleavened bread androasted ears of corn.	11 ao outro dia comeram dos frutos da terra, pães ázimos, e trigo tostado naquele mesmo dia.
12 The manna stopped the day after they had eaten the produce of the land. The Israelites from that yearonwards ate the produce of Canaan and had no more manna.	12 O maná cessou, depois que comeram dos frutos da terra, e os filhos de Israel não usaram mais deste alimento, mas comeram dos frutos que a terra de Canaan tinha dado naquele ano.
13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him, grasping anaked sword. Joshua walked towards him and said to him, 'Are you on our side or on that of our enemies?'	13 Ora, estando Josué nos arredores da cidade de Jericó, levantou os olhos e viu diante de si um homem em pé, que tinha uma espada desembaínhada; foi ter com ele, e disse-lhe: Tu és dos nossos ou dos inimigos?
14 He replied, 'On neither side. I have come now as the captain of the army of Yahweh.' Joshua fel on hisface to the ground, worshipping him, and said, 'What has my Lord to say to his servant?'	14 Ele respondeu: Não; sou o príncipe do exército do Senhor, que agora venho (para vos auxiliar).
15 The captain of the army of Yahweh answered Joshua, 'Take your sandals off your feet, for the placewhere you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did so.	15 Josué caiu com o rosto por terra, prostrou-se e disse-lhe: Que diz o meu Senhor ao seu servo?
